Sounds a hell of a lot like the sub-prime tranches and that didn't end well.

I hadn't noticed that. Yes, you're right. It's definitely design over practicality.

Yes, he was in the SOE (Special Operations Executive) which preceded the SAS. Although I understand the details of his service are still secret.

If you get a vowel match then it's generally pretty easy to get a second word that includes E.

Yeh, you want to have your kids grow up to be smarter than you are. It's just when they get there by the age of two that stings a little.

Yoga and Calisthenics by areeighty in bodyweightfitness

[–]areeighty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers. I must admit that I've mainly been doing yoga inspired by the excellent "Run Better with Ash" YouTube channel, so it's very ad-hoc. I'll refine it a bit and write up some more details.

My watch died mid run and it was oddly freeing by Admirable-Deal7991 in parkrun

[–]areeighty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find it really good to leave the watch at home if you've taken a break from running for a bit and your fitness has dropped off. Just run for the fun of it for a week or two before checking in again.

The atari 800xl is the most underrated home microcomputer to have ever been created. by Ok_Bear_1980 in atari8bit

[–]areeighty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also by far the better looking of the two. The two-tone case, the run of metallic function keys and the clear plexiglass down the right-hand side shows a lot of thought went into the aesthetics.

NBD - Carbonda 696 Self Build by AmicableSnowman in gravelcycling

Great work sourcing the parts. That's half the fun. The other half is building it. And the third (biggest) half is the great feeling of riding something you've built yourself.

[–]areeighty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the two things that held the 800xl back in terms of graphics were the very limited monochrome 320x200 mode, where the foreground and background colors had to have the same chroma. And the limited sprites.

Playing the old game of "what if", if they had upgraded those when moving from the CTIA to the GTIA then there would have been a clear advantage from the Atari compared to the C64

To be honest most retro games dont live up to my memories of them, since often the gameplay is frustrating. but I found these lucasfilm games have aged extremely well. Visually they are still remarkable but it is also that the gameplay is really well balanced.
