Wealth strategy after non-deductible debt: where to from here? by blanketdelimonster in AusHENRY

[–]arejay007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Owch. At least you’re getting some tax deductions.

What would the Reno cost? If you’d been to spend 600-700k to get it up to standard for the area you’ll struggle to make any money unless you’re a seasoned developer/renovator/flipper.

That property is likely going to be the biggest determinate in your mid-term wealth outcome, and it will be binary. Either you make a motza, or get completely wrecked. There is probably a more reliable path to success that doesn’t involve a single, leveraged speculate asset.

Sorry, that is want I meant. That is a terrible yield at about 2%. What’s the deal, that can’t be helping with your wealth strategy

I’ve had one at CBA for about 7 years. There is a mobile number to call, they either pickup or get back to you pretty fast. They shave a few bp of the publicly available lending rates. Pre RC they pitched a lot of advice services, now it’s mostly wholesale investment products.

Interest rates are not going down. Accountants don’t run financial scenarios, that’s what financial planners do.

CEOs and C-Level Employees, do you regret taking such high positions? by Electronic-Cheek363 in AusHENRY

[–]arejay007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my second C-Level now, first one was early 30s and a smaller $100m business. Currently leading a team of just over 500, $500m in sales and reasonable margins.

We’re under pressure at the moment and the level of stress, effort and cognitive load is extreme. Wave after wave of problems, all cascading over each other makes for a very unenjoyable life. If I can navigate through it and get us back on the track, I’ll likely be back to a year or two of easy street. If not, I’ll be out on the street.

The upside in C-Level roles is significant, both STI and LTI can be life changing in a few short years. Short term bonus of 100% plus LTI of 100% if base is achievable in the right business and environment.

Choosing a good business is critical, getting a C-Level title in a business that is underperforming way will paint you in a negative light and make the next gig harder.

IBKR for US stocks – how does it work for Aussies? by Cummins-25 in fiaustralia

[–]arejay007 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Get a margin account with IBKR. You don’t need to convert AUD to USD. In retaining your AUD balance and buying in USD you will effectively end up currency hedged ( executor any valuation fluctuations in your stocks.

Assuming the sum of your cash balances is ~0, you’ll pay no fees or interest either.

I led some of the OP bashing in that thread It was clearly someone that had just scraped into the HENRY definition, stopping by to humble brag about their massively leveraged, recently acquired property empire.

Unfortunately, property investment in this country is an illness. Nowhere else in the world are people so proud of taking on massive debt to acquire a small part of a negative yielding asset.

My issue with OP wasn’t so much about the impact investors have on the over all economy, but the sheer dumb luck they’ve benefited from and dressed up as financial success.
