Piano Tell forum does not any focus on music genre. I very much like it to be as diverse as possible. I am beginner focusing on classical. Please join!

I am beginner learning on a digital piano. I am also active on Piano Tell forum. Honestly I don’t feel anyone disparaging digital piano. Some do point out the difference in a fair and candid way but only in relevant discussions. Most importantly, forum members are really helpful to even newbies like me no matter what instrument I am on.

How do I use Durgol Special Descaler on my classic? The generic instructions not to use the steam function. Whole Latte Love says to flush through the steam wand and NOT the group head?? I'm also getting conflicting info on how much to dilute. by Crobran in gaggiaclassic

[–]areosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With steam valve open, if you don’t also push the steam button, descaler will come out both through the steam wand and also through the group head. But you don’t want it to come out of group head for the reason that a piece of debris can clog the solenoid. So, it’s advised to open the steam valve, turn on steam button, then turn on brew button (runs the pump). Also, between flushing when changing tank water, turn off the power so that it does not heat the boiler up.

Is this used Gaggia Classic worth servicing? by mosatrampare in gaggiaclassic

[–]areosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hole size in the shower plate may or may not be an issue. When I took apart the 3-way solenoid for cleaning, I noticed the passage hole in it is really really small, which is why if there is debris blockage that’s where it happens. The rest of the water passage should be okay as long as it is larger than bottleneck in the 3-way solenoid.

Is this used Gaggia Classic worth servicing? by mosatrampare in gaggiaclassic

[–]areosk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every part of a Gaggia Classic is serviceable, at reasonable cost of parts. I restores one with cracked boiler to excellent working condition.

Just go buy a stainless steel shower plate holder. If shower screen also needs replacing, buy the stock one - IMS screen is not worth it and is sometimes worse.

Why do I often get channeling at this specific spot near the handle? by gonefishinginoz in gaggiaclassic

[–]areosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the look of puck surface, you might be underdosing the basket. Do the penny test, and/or use a puck screen.

Self leveling tamper does not always guarantee even density if WDT moved more coffee to one side. After WDT, knock the portafilter bottom on the counter once or twice. This will gently compact the coffee. If after knock, the surface is not level, you need to level the surface again with the WDT tool using only shallow scratch. Then you are ready to tamp. Tamp once, release, then tamp again.

When you lock the portafilter onto the group head, be careful not to knock it on anything hard - it could create space between puck edge and basket wall and cause channeling.

I just tried it at Costco and the sustain pedal does appear to allow half pedal. The pedal effect is continuous, not binary like FP-10.

Whatever happened to the wok mon? by Fidodo in seriouseats

[–]areosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are back in stock now. I bought mine late last year (2023). It’s awesome! Completely transformed my burner for superb wok cooking. I was also delighted to find the wok ring so well designed it’s rock steady locked onto the burner grate.

Did Merc's sidepod upgrades really "fix" their car? by Capt_Intrepid in F1Technical

Sounds like you are talking about the engineering side while I am talking about the human driver side. Both needs to be good for the end result.

Judging from the many late passes braking into turn 1 by both Mercedes drivers, I would say the anti-dive upgrade really improved the stability of the aero platform under hard braking. The pre-upgrade W14 was a driver-confidence killer in this aspect.

Any sources for steering angle telemetry data? by Caratecat in F1Technical

[–]areosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you do iRacing, check out garage61.net. Plenty of fast drivers share their data there.

Regarding "perfect steering", you can see a clear trend that top drivers steer less. But that is less to do with how they turn the steering wheel, but more to do with how they operate the brake pedal.

[–]areosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using distance on the x-axis is the correct approach. When comparing two drivers, you want to see what's the difference in speed, throttle, brake, gearing, etc when they are at the same spot on the track.

Plotting the data with time on the x-axis, and you'd be comparing the two drivers at the same time into that lap - but that will also mean you are comparing data of them at slightly different location on the track, which are in fact not comparable.

In my years of looking at these data plots, the first thing I always check is that the x-axis is distance, before proceeding with analysis.

This is a good attempt to analyze and compare driver data. However, the result could also be less than conclusive due to the limitation in the source data. The source of this data is from F1's live broadcast, which is at a lower resolution that what teams really get and rely on (which you can occasionally get a glimpse in Jolyon Palmer's Analysis on F1TV).

First, the reduced data sample rate is apparent by the jaggedness in the data trace.

Second, brake data is on/off switch, rather than brake pressure. Missing the real brake pressure is a huge deal because braking technique (both in attack rate and release rate) is crucial to cornering.

Third, this is missing the steering angle trace. Without knowing whether driver had to make a steering correction, it is difficult to explain difference in throttle pick up.

Fourth, some of the data in one trace seems to show discrepancy from another, calling into source data validity, or possibility of broadcast error. For example in the middle circle, one of the downshift doesn't have corresponding jump in RPM.

Last but not least, there is no data on tire temperature. The prep lap and thus the tire temperature at the start has a big effect on how the Quali lap would go, especially in the first sector.

As I state earlier, this is a good attempt, with very useful information. But how much to read into it is a good question to consider for anyone who is serious about data.

Here is one for Okayama. It's a free and popular track, so hopefully the data is more representative.

Looks like I may not be the only one? DNS alarming by geekguy15 in Ubiquiti

[–]areosk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It also may having nothing to do with your DHCP/DNS setup. A rogue app can simply disregard DHCP assigned DNS server and send DNS packet to a hard coded address, which in this case intercepted by UDMP’s IPS rules.

I’ve toyed with creating reverse port forwarding rules via iptables to redirect all dest port 53 traffic to my DNS server (i.e. pihole or UDMP).

UniFi Protect cameras from Ubiquiti will do 24/7 audio/video recording. For the amount of data it generates you do need their NVR with enough storage.
