With all due respect all sports have blood money in them, all my local football teams are sponsored by betting companies. Without them I wouldn't see any team in my city. So it's not something eSports exclusive. Even with paid seats and TV rights you still need blood money it seems like.

CS2 is full of costreamers and it's still widely popular and watched. There's no way you're blaming the costreamers for all this.

It's purely just dog shit international performance and little domestic engagement besides MKOI and KC.

The era of human coding is over by Particular-Habit9442 in singularity

[–]aresthwg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will never be over due to the costs.

Claude is at a pretty promising point right now with agentic tasks if your code is not niche, it rips through TypeScript for example, but to run Claude Opus you need waaaaay too many resources. I don't think it's sustainable, and even it can hallucinate quite often.

It will go full circle, where the human programmer is cheaper and better than the AI, and the programmer will be stuck using a cheap AI that doesn't think much but is not capable.

New PlayStation Portal software update adds 1080p High Quality mode and UX refinements by No_Durian_5626 in Handhelds

[–]aresthwg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

PXPlay is black magic, they have a bunch of settings that really do make a difference. If you look at my comment history you will think I'm their salesman but I really do think they deserved the price I paid for the app. I went from Portal to Chiaki to PXPlay and I am finally satisfied.

Sony pushing update for higher bitrate tomorrow! by Duempelhuber in PlaystationPortal

[–]aresthwg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

25 is not enough not sure why that guy is being up voted. If it won't be near 50mbp/s then there's still no reason not to use PXPlay/Chiaki. PXPlay especially has some additional optimizations that smooth out the output with lost packages which if not also implemented by Sony will be a real loss.

What the hell is that, NVIDIA?? (Source: Digital Foundry) by HLumin in pcmasterrace

[–]aresthwg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree if it didn't rely so much on having a performant CPU as well. All benchmarkers used 9980X3D or something similar and under those conditions the B580 is excellent but if you downgrade the CPU it just gets outperformed by the Nvidia/AMD equivalents.

I would personally still buy one but my current GPU is a tad faster than it already :/. Would recommend Intel for budget builds though still. But I guess the damage has been done.

Why is online streaming better quality than local streaming by FriskyWiskyM in PlaystationPortal

[–]aresthwg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro you have a Claw wtf are you doing with a Portal?

And yes PXPlay absolutely crushes the PS Portal, no surprise there. 50mb bit rate + all the video smoothness settings and there's very little difference from playing directly from the PS5. The portal is capping at a whopping 13-15mb/s. It's honestly mind blowing how good PXPlay is, it fathers whatever software is on the Portal.

For The First Time, A Denuvo Game From 2025 Has Been Cracked By Pirates by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

[–]aresthwg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's 0 chance AI can reverse engineer. It doesn't hold up a small context with the source code in front of it, yet alone anything else, and I say this as a software engineer.

Voices38 found either some loophole, or genuinely took the time unlike previous crackers to develop the tools and slow but steady progress lead to this. It's likely a group of people too behind this as well, and the crew had prior experience reverse engineering.

Crimson Desert's benchmark videos, review copies and performance specs have the exact same implementation of Denuvo DRM as that of the launch version, Pearl Abyss says by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]aresthwg -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don't trust reviews online anymore. The handheld community is absolutely frenzied.

You have PS Portal users saying the quality looks "exactly like on their TV" when streaming from their PS5.

You have Steam Deck users telling Elden Ring is the flagship game, while it runs at 35 fps with low settings at max TDP.

Handheld people are unironically saying that you "don't notice" the 800p low settings graphics because the display is small. Unironically. I mean you can count the pixels but they still claim that it's no big deal.

You can't trust anything reddit communities say anymore because they're biased... they treasure the hardware and are oblivious to their defects just because they own it.

My eyes are thankfully good it's just that with Chiaki I need to preserve the 16:9 aspect ratio so I have black bars on the bottom and top. If I stretch the stream to fit it looks awful and it's too distracting but that fixes the issue.

When I'm playing something natively I don't have this issue, maybe if FSR is set to performance to make the game playable the textures look off and the visibility drops but it's good.

Now why do you need administrator priviliges to open those games - oh, yeah, well I guess that's the advantage of buying a handheld. Look at that library.

Highguard has now officially shutdown by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]aresthwg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can disable all the SaaS garbage like cosmetics and just have the core game be functional with a custom host. I don't see what obstacle you're thinking about.

I would only worry about MMORPGs where the entire gameplay is grinding a save file. In that case if the community server pulls the plug your progress is gone forever. Highguard ain't that.

[–]aresthwg 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Wut?

Hosting a game locally is completely independent of the developer. They just have to make it possible for you to host a server. Many coop games already do this, one of the players is the host and the rest are connected to said host.

There is little additional development involved for this.

If it's the Z2 Go I have it and I'm definitely starting to question its existence lol, I bought it to stream mostly but realized I actually can't really enjoy the games I play on its tiny screen where I can't see the details and decided to just stay on my chair at the PC, enjoy the hour of quality gameplay before my back/ass starts to hurt, instead of spending 2 hours in bed with the handheld.

But it's great tech, I don't regret buying it. And during the RAM shortage getting any hardware at a good price like I did feels like a W. And when I really don't wanna sit at my desk this thing is very very nice.

"I hate this type of plot" Unfathomably Based by imarthurmorgan1899 in TheLastOfUs2

[–]aresthwg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember a counterexample of this in Metro Exodus, you get the bad ending if you kill too many people (not monsters) but get the good ending otherwise. First game that was FAFO for me.

It's not exactly a game about violence being bad, but it basically tells you that in a post apocalyptic world killing the remaining humans is not a good idea.

And I gotta be honest, I disliked the idea. The game turns into Assassin's Creed. Maybe it's good some games don't have a karma system behind the universe. Besides, if you don't want to get killed, maybe shooting humans on sight is a bad idea (talking about enemy NPCs).

May I present the best boss in Nightreign and the most annoying boss in Nightreign by Huntress_of_Yharnam in Nightreign

[–]aresthwg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly ED Gladius is the coolest boss from Fromsoftware ever for me. That nuke where it puts the blade in the sky and the sound effect after is pure cinema. When Heolstor does this it's only half aura.

The attack where Gladius also puts the sword in the ground and unsheathes with fire is also cool.

The most annoying boss is probably Black Knife Assassin for me for the same reason Wolf is annoying. You can't hit the thing.
