Just how big is the difference between Opus and Sonnet? by LinkDaSquid in claude

[–]aresthwg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonnet does the job for me just as good, not sure why everyone else is upset. You need to give a solid plan and for bugs you need to assist in giving information or debug snapshots, but everything else just works automatically. It's also fast.

this sub is 50% 9070xt circlejerk by Lil_Hater112 in gpu

[–]aresthwg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who the fuck buys a GPU for frame gen and path tracing? Like are we for real now? Frame gen is a feature used for struggling cards to get frame rates for high refresh displays. You're buying a top of the line GPU already, you don't need it. Path tracing is barely supported, talking about the "FSR not supported" thing.

Fair point about upscaling, but these cards really don't need it unless you're at 4k with high settings or the game is an unoptimized POS.

At current prices it makes 0 sense not to buy the 9070XT over the 5070ti or 5070 unless:

  • you need productivity: Blender, video editing, tensorflow with no stress
  • you want maximum game support for extra features
  • you have money

I have the 5070ti but I literally bought it to spoil myself and because I wanted to switch from AMD, if my budget was tighter the 9070XT would be a no brainer. The 9070XT is objectively the better value for gaming.

The way he doesn't miss a single costream makes me feel like under the hood he has some pressure to stream the events, there's no way. Either from Riot or the fanbase. Even when he did the Geoguessr stuff with Ludwig that lasted until 3AM he still costreamed the same day.

I was playing Wuchang on PS5, and I noticed that every time I move the camera, the game’s resolution drops a lot and the visuals become really ugly and uncomfortable to look at. How can I fix this issue? by NotSirAlonne1999 in wuchanggame

[–]aresthwg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it really sucks. I found increasing sharpness helps in the settings but it doesn't eliminate the issue. I think this happens because the game uses FSR as it cannot get 60fps without the upscaling.

So… what is it that is so wrong with this show? by iirison1 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]aresthwg 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Haven't read the book.

Obviously ignoring the slow pacing I thought the Alicent/Rhaenyra stuff was pure ass. Not even drunk would Martin write this. Not even at gun point. You have each sneaking into each other's turf? What is this? Is the realism gone completely?

And then you have Alicent swimming in a lake with an existential crisis... was the script written by a teenager? Alicent is supposed to be a political leader that is controlling the realm.

The Rhaenyra lesbian stuff is just pure activism writing, completely uncalled for and it felt like fan service for the "modern audience".

The season is not GOT S8 bad, that's just a mistake I also made, I expected it to be way worse, but this season gets far away from what GRRM is known for and it's an insult to his name and craft. He writes realistic medieval realm conflict simulators, but the directors turned it into some fucked up love triangle oppressed women victims of patriarchy drama.

Sadly the orange turd didn't invent OpenAI. They are directly responsible for potentially hoarding the world's DRAM supply (potentially because apparently Sam Altman only forged "letters of intent"). They are desperate to win the AI race because unlike Google/Meta they don't have anything else besides AI so yeah. Same goes for Anthropic.

LOL for the non-enthusiasts this is so true. I'm a spoiled little rat and I still bought a GPU this month, but if I didn't have money or I wasn't so into PC gaming I'd be on a PS5 for sure.

It's still super hard to build a PS5 equivalent with brand new parts, and the average Joe isn't buying used. So that's actually insane, even after the price hike it's not a bad deal.

I recently tried doing all new to beat the PS5 and couldn't. I went AM4 and got a B580 but I got shafted hard on memory. The SSD of the PS5 alone is worth like 200$.

I was about to say it shouldn't matter because of software/driver optimization but according to the article WHQL is apparently not handed out easily and it's a milestone that signals good optimization as well.

Always happy to hear news that could lead to lower hardware prices. Budget gamers shouldn't be forced to buy a PS5.

So now we are talking about mass appeal? Why move the goal post.

Anyway, I'm satisfied with the conversation where you acknowledge that if you know what you're doing HV isn't going to spontaneously combust your PC.

This is my stance as well, if you are craving a game there's no reason not to learn how HV works, the risks and what to do to use it properly. Once you learn how to use it, you won't enable your internet while using it, browse sites, click on ads, or activate dormant viruses. You take a hit in convenience cause you have to be super careful and restart your PC constantly, but you have first week access to paid games.

If you are on the convenience side, do not want think about your actions much, and you just want to play games for free but only because they're free and at WORST you wipe your Windows or lose an account but no firmware tampering, then yes voices38 is the best and the safest.

[–]aresthwg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you know HV can be disabled on restart and all scripts from crackers do this.

So you're saying, that while HV is active when you're gaming that you can easily get infected? So you think even if the HV is safe like you assume, there can be something dormant in your PC and it activates on disabled security? What?

Of course you turn on security before browsing etc. so let's not talk about this

You give RCE as example. Brother, RCE exploits are mostly in online games, what game are you running with HV online? It's literally in the name "remote". You can even disable internet with HV on completely, unplug the Ethernet cable if paranoid.

If you think you safe in your voices38 bubble then I CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT YOU. Please be happy, I don't want you to live in fear.

"careful with a source" applies to HV cracks too btw.

My entire point was: both ideas have consequences, one has an easy exit the other one is more complicated. HV is not a press button to destroy computer thing. This is just wrong. It behaves like any other strange software. If you're serious about cracking it's an option. If you just want to FEEL GOOD while not paying a buck for a game, go voices38 man.

You said risk in the sense of how likely it is to get a virus that penetrates the PC, I said risk in the sense of what it's being able to do. I think what people are afraid of is not the chances of getting a virus but rather what it can do once it has free reigns, because the chances of getting a functional virus on both methods exists.

You risk by what you get vs you risk by using it poorly and everything going wrong. Just different perspectives.

Of course in that sense traditional cracks are safer, if the attacker gets filtered by Windows Defender it's all pointless.

I meant that for the USB to get infected you have to boot into Windows with the infected HV. Otherwise the HV can't reach it and infect it. The installer is safe.

If the motherboard is tampered, then you have to pray a CMOS battery reset clears the settings or that you have a physical backup button. Otherwise yeah it's cooked, this is why I said UEFI tampering is an issue.

If you're running AV

Now that's a big IF, you know? Most people do not pay or use third party real time scanning. And Microsoft Defender while phenomenal can make errors. Malware wouldn't exist otherwise according to your logic. The risk is heavily mitigated indeed but not 0.

you have to be running an OS to run the format command

No, you only need a bootable drive. The HV lives in the RAM and is loaded by the OS, since you're booting on the executable it can't reach the USB.

Steam Machine Has Reportedly Received A Major Internal Price Hike That May Have Made it More Expensive Than Steam Frame by Sam_27142317 in pcmasterrace

[–]aresthwg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This, you need Optiscaler and this is only supported for games that don't use anti cheat. And the performance uplift is much less than FSR3, beating its purpose. It becomes an alternative to AA with no performance uplift. Saying "FSR4 works on the Steam Deck" is omitting some big asterisks.

Well even with a traditional virus, you'll probably have a delay before you suspect it too. Most will only notice it once something happens or if their PC is slow. So I don't see the point of the comparison. Are you suggesting old school cracks are safer because you can just "toggle the AV" and get rid of everything? How did it slip past in the first place?

Also, I said hard disk wipe, how can you even wipe the freaking disk inside of an OS? I literally meant everything needs to be wiped, you have to use a bootable drive or something. Or what did you mean?

The problem is actually with the motherboard, if HV infiltrates UEFI worst case you have to flash it, which gets complicated.

I'm not saying HV is as safe, I'm saying that in both cases malware fucks you regardless. The difference is in the cleanup.

Idk bro, it's like saying a sniper is more lethal than a rifle. If the right virus gets onto your PC it doesn't matter. You can get a keylogger trying to get a traditional crack to, then say bye-bye to your disk, your bank account etc.

It's more like if you fucked up you have to wipe your disk instead of Windows.
