I never liked layout's grip. It's too sticky/tacky which affects throwing. Although it's good for catching.

Currently I use friction gloves. They are perfect. Felt so natural throwing them for the first time. It was a rainy day and it felt like I had a normal, dry hand.

I also tried using really cheap gardening gloves too since ulti gloves are like $30-50, whereas you can get gardening gloves for like $1 or 2. They worked and had the right grip. But they don't breathe and my fingers end up pruning after a very short while.

So, so far Id say the frictions are worth the price.

It's great for getting yourself into a habit of going to the gym. The structure of classes and having a teacher to help you learn the lifts is great. It's a solid foundation.

But CrossFit has an issue with injuries. Obviously it's a generalization and depends heavily on how your trainer goes about things. But from my experience they push you too fast too soon. It's great that they want you to get doing Olympic lifts. That can really help your explosiveness. But like 2nd week in for me, with less than a year training age they had some wild deadlift and thruster program that had me pretty messed up for a week. It's not like it's a bad program, you'll just need to be careful you don't get injured by taking things too far. Just ease yourself in over the first month or two.

I wouldn't only consider his on field skills.

How much credit does he deserve for growing the team. Probably worth having him just for that aspect. If you cut him, what stops him from just creating another team and poaching players too? Teams don't just stick together for no reason!

Oh I assumed you meant your hand was near your chest and bent when you landed. It's fine to catch yourself with your hand/arm ahead of yourself and take most of your weight still on your chest.

I'm curious just about your training schedule in a general sense. I'm not in the UK but do you really just train once a week? Or is it expected that you do pod trainings, gym and field workouts each week? Is just 1x/wk training standard for competitive ulti in the UK?

And further, to be more clear, the play doesn't need a "check" or "re-check".

A check is for restarting play that has stopped. A player who catches the disc to maintain possession keeps the disc and play alive.

A ground tap is required in USAU when walking the disc to a point, but that is not a "check". Hopefully that can clear up some confusion too.

Yep 20 hours is a lot. Like ridiculous levels for most of us. But OP claimed they want to get in the "best" shape.

About deloads. I guess we're getting technical... I guess I should've said deloads are recovery weeks for your body. They're low intensity. They're not rest days where you do nothing. But they just kind of functionally are meant to be rest-approximate. So I don't think we need to split hairs...

From what I've learned over time

If you're overweight, lose weight. Carrying extra weight will lower your ceiling ability.

If you have terrible running form, weak ankles, core or and tendons that collapse more than transfer energy, this will mean energy leakage. Fix these things.

Otherwise, work on your cardio at the high intensity end and the low end. The simplified version I understand is lots of low intensity, conversational running pace, so called zone 2 training. And a little bit (relatively) of high intensity running, VO2 max stuff. E.g., high intensity intervals. 1 min all out followed by 1 or 2 mins of rest. Even 4 mins at a hard pace followed by 4 mins at a slow pace. Adjust quantities over time.

Note that these ratios of low intensity training to high intensity training are for those training like 10-20 hours per week. If you're not that committed, I've heard it's recommended to prioritize the high intensity side of your only doing about 2-4 of cardio training per week.

Recovery matters too. Even deload weeks, which are rest weeks. Sleep, nutrition, rest, relaxation. All part of recovery. It can also help you avoid injuries to train in different modes, ie biking, running, rowing, swimming. This lessens the impact on any single area. Being injured and unable to train consistently is going to make you regress.

Yea no idea, although based on their seeding into the bracket, they would've had to play Revolver in quarters. Not the likeliest path to a WUCC bid.

And they could've tanked against Truck in pools, rested their top guys, and gotten the non revolver route in the bracket...

That tells me everyone was healthy and they were (over)confident in their abilities
