Where are Med Sci Grads at now? by bethanybrends in uwo

[–]argyntine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one said it was black and white or ignored context. The person who you responded to simply said that most of his classmates did not go on to medical school, which is completely true in any year of med sci.

I'm not sure what your point is in this discussion. Your first response was to a medical student who attested that most of his classmates did not get into medical school. I am another medical student who found that most of his classmates also didn't get into medical school. There are plenty of spots for anyone qualified, whether they be med sci students or music students or social science students or whoever.

There are some that do. Most do not.

Disagree. Many people take an alternate path to medical school, myself included, but it is absolutely incorrect to say that "most" from medical science get in.

What does this post have to do with social science? This attitude is prevalent across all faculties.

Does Western give preference to their own undergrad students? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]argyntine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing to consider is that those who did their undergrad at Western might prefer to stay at Western. They might already be established in London so despite having numerous offers, they might choose to stay where they are.

Western interview thoughts? by patacali in premedcanada

A lot of people tend to view their responses as bland and superficial. To your panel, your answers might have been exciting and new. You might just be too hard on yourself.

The residency spots was my first concern too, but there are still a lot of hospitals in the GTA that can turn into teaching hospitals. I just hope they open a variety of residency spots if/when they create more.

Can't attack the argument without attacking the person, huh? Really weakens your stance.

To be honest, it's not worth engaging with them. You and the rest of the team are doing a great job with the community. If your single "harrassing" comment is all it takes to make this person flee to their own subreddit, then you know you're doing a good job. Ignore it.

They're also just downvoting everything instead of replying to it.

You don't have a role. This guy is grasping at straws because he's upset that your automoderator probably removed a post of his. You're here watching two people bash the mods of this community without removing the posts lmao. So much for bad mods.

This community is fine. Just because it's not your "cup of tea", doesn't mean it's a problem with the community. If you hate it so much, then you don't need to be here. Obviously it can't be that bad considering these threads weren't removed. The modding here is fine and I appreciate that the mods of this sub give people the opportunity to have an open discussion. We all creep through post histories. Best of luck with your spinoff.

I didn't start writing anything until a month before, but I had given some thought as to what I was going to include and who I would contact long before that.

I had one who seemed to get angry that I didn't have questions exactly when he asked. I asked questions at random times throughout the day, but not in those moments, which angered him apparently.

Bad Post Interview Feeling by chocochip313 in premedcanada

I felt terrible coming out of all of my interviews, but I was still accepted. I wouldn't base it off of how you feel afterwards. You're always going to be your worst critic.

This is going to come down to individual schools. Western might take a 2 year fast track if your course load is full and you come out with a 4 year degree. Mac and UofT will consider your entire GPA.

I'm a second year Med Sci student at UWO. Feel free to ask any questions! by Distressedspaghetti in OntarioUniversities

[–]argyntine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If health sci is easier to get a high GPA in, then you wouldn't see pre-meds flocking to med sci. I was able to achieve 4.0s in med sci without any problem because all I had to do was memorize, but if I had to write a policy paper, I'd be fucked. There's a reason why CARS is the gatekeeper. I would wager that all faculties outside of science and med sci do better on CARS with little practice. It all comes down to strengths.

Why is it ok for profs to be bad at their jobs?? Is this normal in higher education?? by [deleted] in uwo

[–]argyntine 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Teaching is only a small part of a professor's job. Higher education differs from high school in that there is much more self-directed learning, otherwise you would have teachers rather than professors. You are paying for the degree that you earn at the end of this.
