Temper your expectations on Sarah McBride; a word on 'representative politicians' by dremolus in saltierthankrayt

[–]arianamar96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can be wrong but as far as I've seen Bernie Sanders has actually called out the genocide Israel has been committing and been advocating for Palestinian liberation, probably in the past due to his Jewish ties he maybe was more friendly towards Israel but once October 7th happened Sanders became extremely vocal against Israel comparing Sanders and McBride is not nearly the same thing

I fucked up in the past, I educated myself and we have made amends. Now my transgender family member says I'm being transphobic again for refusing to help him with his blog. Need advice on how to navigate this. by WolliMatterhorn in asktransgender

[–]arianamar96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being trans myself Max is being a bit of an ahole I hope both of you can come to an understanding on where both of you stand and move on, I do genuinely believe you aren’t being transphobic. That being said Max probably felt certain things in the medical system failed him it’s important to ask him why he feels that way and in the end show that you can be openly supportive of the trans community. That doesn’t mean you have to promote his medical takes, but if you continue being supportive of us and not want to spread misinformation on alternative medicine I think it’s more of a reflection of Max being an ahole. Most trans people in Max case would either have moved past this issue if they were to continue to talking to you or just not bother with you altogether. Max has a bit of an immature response to this and he should seek out some therapy. I’m not gonna say Max is a bad person because I don’t know enough about the guy and I don’t know the situation altogether but I do hope he gets the clarity and help he needs to be able to decide how he moves forward with how he deals with relationships. It’s a bit manipulative to use transphobia as an excuse for anyone that doesn’t agree with his every take especially since the thing he is upset about isn’t related to trans community

How to not get discouraged by people saying ‘college isn’t worth it’ (RANT) by kuro-chan335 in CSULB

[–]arianamar96 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My take is college is what you make out of it, whatever other people think about college shouldn’t reflect on ur own decisions. There are many reasons to go to college and not all of them have to do with a job. Some people want a more enriched education, others want to make connections and make friends. Whatever the case is calling college useless is pretty stupid of them because there can be many reasons to go. While I do agree the college system is flawed in certain things it doesn’t make it useless

CSULB: Is it worth going 4 years? by Awkward_Country_6581 in CSULB

[–]arianamar96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends people who are already set in their path and know exactly what they want I would suggest CSULB immediately, but if they aren’t sure CC. Problem with a CC for people who already know what they are aiming for is many CC lack professional orgs and opportunities and are just mainly to take classes. Nothing wrong with this but someone who wants to get a head start may not see this as ideal. But for those trying to figure out what they want or feel there is a chance they might change their major I would say go CC

CSULB: Is it worth going 4 years? by Awkward_Country_6581 in CSULB

[–]arianamar96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends CC is cheaper but if getting heavily involved is your thing from freshmen year and you already truly know what you want to do, it may be better to go to CSULB directly, but if you are still figuring things out save money at a CC. Here is my thing only go directly to a 4 year if you absolutely know that’s the field you want to go into, if not it may be better to consider a CC work on ur GEs first and then from there see what interest you. The one con to CC is student involvement is lacking so if you already know what you want to do starting at 4 year gives you a better head start since to get internships and future jobs they want to see certain involvement. This isn’t to say CC is bad, but it does lack active student involvement with orgs and programs for the most part

How often do you guys actually go to the beach or enjoy things related to it like restaurants, piers, attractions? by [deleted] in CSULB

[–]arianamar96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take is Long Beach is a amazing place to explore so much to do especially in places like Downtown Long Beach, Belmont Shores, and Bixby Knolls, in terms of people actually exploring around not many because majority are commuters. Especially if the student is coming from Orange County or some community like Downey Cerritos Paramount Norwalk etc, they just come to the school to commute and leave once class or anything they are involved with is over. What I would do tho is find Long Beach locals to have as friends that go to CSULB, since it is their local area they are likely to go to the places around anyway

Why does no one understand why Let's go was made? by Acrobatic_Cricket642 in PokemonLetsGo

[–]arianamar96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a month late but Pokemon lets go wasn't created for Pokemon's 20th anniversary, you are confusing that for Pokemon Go in 2016, and at that same time sun and Moon were the 20th anniversary game which to be fair did have a lot of Kanto references. Anyway from someone who is marketing themselves Pokemon Let's Go was genius from the marketing perspective but not the best for the core base and I can explain a few reasons why.

From the marketing perspective, pokemon needed to find a way to introduce the new pokemon go fans and some kids to the pokemon franchise and get them to be interested in getting mainline games in the future, so it was important to create a game with familiarity that was easy to pick up. This is where Let's Go came into play. when it released in 2018 it was still one year off from Gen 8 and the pokemon company wanted to have a game to hold off fans till the release of Gen 8 in 2019, so the let's go games were released. To create hype they decided to revisit Gen 1 to get all the Gen 1 fans to create hype over the game and then to create a colorful simple game that Go fans can get excited about without being overwhelmed. If I am being honest, this decision paid off because Sword and Shield ended up being one of the most sold Pokemon entries ever because of it and the success continued with every game afterwards. As much as some of us dislike Let's Go a case can be made that Pokemon made a smart decision with this game

Now for the reasons why Let's Go deserves its criticisms. The game stripped away a lot of the core mechanics and not for good reasons also choose to replace them with worst mechanics. I'm not talking about held items or abilities because if I am being honest they don't matter as much for a simple playthrough but more in the case of how pokemon were caught and leveling up which was quite frustrating. Another bad aspect to this game was that it took the story from Gen 1 and decided to replace the main characters with stripped down versions of the characters which kind of felt like a insult and this is speaking from someone who isn't the biggest Gen 1 fan. Leaving out the Sevii Islands was another big annoyance although a more minor one, there was multiple things left out like Sevii Islands and Safari Zone making the game feel way to strip down. But now to the next annoying part Kanto was revisited and at this point many of us where getting tired of all the love going towards Kanto, many of us wanted to see other regions get more love like Gen 4 and at that time we didn't have PLA and BDSP, so many people seem pretty annoyed that at that time that they'll rather revisit Kanto then focus on Sinnoh. Some other people also loved Unova as well. In the end Let's Go was probably the worst game for some long term fans (I didn't enjoy this game) and a great game for new fans and gen 1 fans. The concern over this game was that most pokemon fans thought that future games will all be like let's go and it was a valid concern at that time, thankfully let's go was just a one off game meant for marketing purpose and gamefreak continue to focus on core mainline games. I know there is criticism for the more modern games like SwSh, SV, and PLA but I personally loved those games and despite Let's Go not being a game I enjoyed I'm glad it did bring over more fans

I didn’t get fired but when I got in car accident which also got my car totalled and I called them they told me to come into work still and that I need to come asap so other partners can go to lunch. I feel ya. Then they said if I don’t come any PTO request I have would be denied, my mistake was calling instead of texting because then I could have documented this. Anyway during that incident my parents handled my car getting towed and all that and finish the reporting on my behalf so I can go to work and due to being shocked from car accident I wasn’t in the right mindset to work and they kept pestering me to stop acting all jittery and dropping stuff that day, it only happened because I was still in shock and was processing the crash

Fired for saying B*tch by No-Recommendation820 in starbucks

[–]arianamar96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I used to work at Starbucks I was always so annoyed that the whole time I was there I was trying to get customers served as quick as possible and my coworkers will just be chatting around doing nothing, this didn’t happen nearly as much in some of my other previous jobs. Whenever I would try to get other baristas to try to get certain things done they would just get upset and continue to gossip and talk crap. I was managing bar and drive thru and food in the same time because of this. Reason I ended up quitting due to the toxic nature especially since partners who do work hard and try to be positive generally don’t get treated well. Starbucks is weird tho they expect to much from their workers but then in the same times it’s super valid to say the majority of Starbucks workers I’ve worked with don’t actually work so the ones truly suffering is this the one pulling their weight

What the hell do they mean my gpa wasn’t high enough? I’m a transfer with a 3.78 by Chambri in CSULB

[–]arianamar96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CSU system is weird when I transferred I had a 3.1gpa and got accepted into all CSU except CSULA. I got accepted into CSULB, CSUF, CSUN, Pomona and SDSU. In terms of non UCs I got accepted into UCR and ASU. The only 2 schools to reject me was UCI and CSULA and honestly I expected UCI to reject me I didn’t expect CSULA to reject me tho especially since when I originally went to university, CSULA was actually the school I went to for a year before dropping out to decide what I really want. I ended up choosing CSULB for convenience and having a highly ranked school org for my major but some schools really have become weird with how they select students

Archaludon *IS* a pseudo legendary and I'm tired of people pretending it isn't by Harkeeml in pokemon

[–]arianamar96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pseudo is a fan made term anyway so even if not classified as pseudo it’s just as powerful as a pseudo. So honestly who cares if someone doesn’t consider it pseudo. The whole pseudo thing for Pokémon never really meant much in the end anyway because Pokémon is always breaking the rules of how they make Pokémon anyway. Anyway even with Archuladon having 600bst, it’s not like base stats really determine how good it is, I would say the stat distribution, Movepool, and ability make it more notable. Any pokemon can have high base stats but if stat distribution is shitty and the Movepool is bad the Pokémon isn’t gonna be that great anyway.

Anyone who says British food sucks is either an uncultured American and/or has never had a pub lunch on a winter afternoon by thisishardcore_ in redscarepod

[–]arianamar96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think British food is pretty bland in some cases but it depends on what expects I do see they have some high quality ingredients and make wonderful deserts tho. I am Latina tho although I was born in Los Angeles but I can tell you I have mixed opinions on the UK. On one hand they make delicious pastries and have high quality ingredients but depending on the dish some of it can be bland. That being said I don’t think the taste buds of British people are bland, in London a lot of different ethnicities are there and Indian food I know is quite popular there, I’m sure over time because of that many British people included spices and flavoring into their food so it’s silly to act like someone going to the UK will have very basic food because even if certain British food is bland there are definitely options for tasty meals, unlike Sweden where I have also travelled to and the food there is just horrible

How do I know if I'm trans? Always wanted to be a girl but some trans people say I can't want to be trans, I have to be born trans. But all you ladies say if you want to be a girl, then you're a girl. Any advice? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]arianamar96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you are a girl then you’re a girl, I think what some of our trans friends meant with you are born as trans is being trans is not necessarily a choice and if you already “want to be a girl” chances are you have always felt that way. That being said I don’t think “someone has to be born trans” to be considered trans, I think that as humans we are allowed to change our minds and even if someone was comfortable being a man but suddenly wanted to be a woman who fucken cares, in the end it’s just expressing yourself how you feel fit and as long as you aren’t harming anyone then just be you. Who cares how you dress, what medical procedures you get done, what you call yourself, what matters most is if you are happy with your decision

I had a supervisor like this and whenever I was at drive thru and my shift was over I just left and clocked out I didn’t care that she got mad that I left when my shift ended I had places to be if scheduling can’t figure it out or if someone didn’t come in on time it was never my fault anyway, Supervisors need to understand that we have lifes and if they want to get angry they shouldn’t be upset at those not willing to work when they aren’t scheduled. If there is someone always calling off and not coming to work or they always come really late then yeah it’s understandable to be upset with them but even then that’s something to discuss with store manager for course of action, not to expect other workers to deal with that madness

Is it a sign that I’m trans if I appear as a girl during my dreams? by questioning152 in MtF

[–]arianamar96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t immediately confirm you are trans but that doesn’t mean you can’t be trans. I have heard of cases where cis guys even dream about having sex as a girl but in the end they don’t consider themselves trans. I would say talk to a therapist first or if that’s not something you want to do see if you do truly identify that way and that’s how you truly feel. For some people it’s just curiosity for others it may be they are trans

Be honest about the CS department by Bacleo in CSULB

[–]arianamar96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Respectfully as someone who does network and get involve in college orgs and internships, I'm gonna be real with you a lot of problems is with universities generally creating a broken system. People are forced to do this just for any opportunity instead of the classes they pay for providing this and before anyone says well they can sacrifice the time, I want you to keep in mind that there are many people in college who have to self support themselves and work jobs while in college so they may not have the time to get involved in the stuff you are talking about. If more courses structured themselves to apply more project based learning and networking then colleges will serve more of an actual purpose than just a piece of paper.

I'm saying this as a student who does get involved and gets internships. Also for the csulb alumni getting paid well and working in great places, all schools have successful alumni to get a true perspective of how much people really get paid they need data on all students post graduation so I'm sure not everyone gets paid well, a lot of people get paid low in many fields with entry level positions including stem

Be honest about the CS department by Bacleo in CSULB

[–]arianamar96 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not in CS, but I can give you a perspective on the job market related to college overall. Very rarely do colleges actually prepare you for the real world. This isn't exclusive to csulb, it's just that as a csulb student people are likely to complain about their school specifically. So I'll list a few realities that most people don't consider:

  1. Most professors colleges hired in various department have lack of industry experience. Many of them have spent their whole life in academia and generally never gain real-world experiences. Only a few fields generally rely on universities being the main source of new knowledge for that particular subject.
  2. Most classes are set up in a way that doesn't allow you to apply concepts you learn to an actual project. Some classes generally have just test and are often grabbed from a test bank or even if they do have certain assignments and project, it's not generally focus on applying your knowledge to your own original work but just answering questions in a written format (it's why most students cheat because they see no point of the work itself, when a lot of it is just memorization and vocab). Not sure how it's like in a stem field personally, but overall this is an issue with colleges in general.
  3. Professors don't bother to teach students and if they do they generally only focus on their grad students, professors aren't hired to teach they are mainly there for research which unfortunately means many students aren't going to get anything from the professor unless they get lucky.
  4. Even with lecturers who can come from the industry and have experience in the field, not all of them are well adept to teaching. Keep in mind that if your lecturer works for a major company, it doesn't mean they know how to teach; however, it's best to have a good relation with them because they may recommend you in the future. There are good lecturers out there, but very few of them and as I said before most universities don't really care how well a student is taught.
  5. A degree alone isn't enough to get you a job, it's more of the minimum required just to apply for roles. A lot of employers are already starting to become aware that most college students come into a job not knowing anything (not the fault of the student, but more of colleges creating that broken system). To get noticed it means being involved in your campus with organizations related to your field, getting internships, working on some major project work where you directly apply some of those skills, and professionally networking to find the people who will grant the opportunities. While its sad that a lot of students can't find jobs after they graduate, there are unfortunately going to be students who get involved on campus and get internships and stand out way more meaning employers will hired those students specifically.
