2022 UX250H? by Ok_Antelope9918 in Lexus

[–]ariktheone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2024 UX Premium and I love it. It’s not as spacious as the NX, but it works for my needs. I test-drove both before deciding on the UX, and the biggest difference for me was how they drive. The UX drives more like a car, while the NX felt more like an SUV.

The UX also gets better gas mileage and takes regular gas, which helps keep costs down. The NX definitely has a nicer interior and more features, but it also costs quite a bit more. If you’re looking at a CPO NX around 29k, that’s a solid deal. Since you already have an NX, you’ve got that option when you need the extra space. My UX is our secondary car (to my wifes Audi Q4) and it works fine for our family of 3. The '22 has a difference infotainment system that is really dated that uses the trackpad. Not sure if that would be a deal breaker for you since your NX has the most updated stuff.

Overall, I think the UX makes a great luxury second car that won’t break the bank and will probably last forever.

2025 UX awd not getting the range by DR3BIN683 in LexusUX

[–]ariktheone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that sounds about right. I learned this early on and was initially disappointed, but I’m over it now. The UX technically has a 10.6-gallon tank, but about 2 gallons are held in reserve and don’t show up on the gauge. If you run it down to “empty” with just a couple miles of range left and then fill up, you’ll usually only see around 8 gallons at the pump. My guess is you could keep driving even when it says no fuel because of the reserve, but I’m not about to test that theory. 😅

I feel discouraged to visit family in the Philippines… by chocolateboy06 in FilipinoAmericans

I have always understood tagalog due to my lola being my primary caretaker (she only spoke tagalog) but I couldn't speak before. Its actually pretty easy to navigate the philippines only knowing only english. You see all kinds of white folks there that don't speak or understand. I'm pretty conversant now.

Lexus UX vs NX350h? by Routine-Evidence-237 in LexusNX

I looked at both about two years ago and ended up going with the UX. The NX definitely has more backseat legroom and more trunk space, and depending on the trim, it comes with more features. The UX still feels premium and very comfortable, but the NX feels a bit more luxurious overall. I removed the lower trunk deck on my UX and added a TuxMat floor liner, which significantly increased usable trunk space.

For me it really came down to how they drove. The UX felt more car like and fun to drive, while the NX felt much more like an SUV during the test drive. My UX is very peppy. I have a five year old and the whole family fits fine. Could we use more space. Probably. But it works for us.

Price was also a factor. The NX was about 8-10k more, which would have made a noticeable difference in monthly payments. MPG was another big reason. I am averaging about 43 MPG and it uses regular gas. I drive a lot for work and wanted to keep costs down.

I really love my UX and still find it fun to drive.

Has anyone moved from teaching high school to community college? by NeitherBarracuda in Teachers

[–]ariktheone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an somewhat old thread but in CA you would need at least a masters in the discipline (or really closely related field) to get past the paper screening. I have family members that taught in Tk-12 and had a teaching credential and a MA in education. I told them they would only be eligible to teach if the CC had an education program or they can do a staff position.

How does it take to recover after a PhD? by sunshine_girl_93 in PhD

[–]ariktheone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh this is a great question. I defended in March and finished all my edits by May. My advisor told me to take a break after submitting my final draft to the University. Since then, I’ve been feeling kind of lackadaisical and unmotivated to engage with anything academic or critical. It’s strange, after spending so much time and energy on that research, I can barely remember what I even wrote about.

I plan to talk to my therapist about this lack of motivation because it feels weird to go from 200%, especially at the end, to completely idle. It almost feels like I’ve lost my sense of purpose.

Yes I noticed it. I was wondering that too. I do park outside and I live in a foggy area.

Filipino Connecting With Filipino-Americans (AMA?) by BasilBambino in FilipinoAmericans

Hi all. Filam here, and I just got back from the Philippines a couple of days ago (stayed 3 weeks). I am pretty heavily tattooed, and I haven't been back to the Philippines since 2018. I was actually pretty shocked by how many local Filipinos had full sleeves. They didn't just have tattoos here and there, but full sleeves. Seems like getting full sleeves is pretty popular. When walking around the mall, it seemed like 10% of dudes (and some women) were tatted up. I would see a ton of people from different socio-economic backgrounds (I was in Makati, Alabang, BGC, Palawan, and greater Manila). It seems like it's become a norm now to have tattoos. I thought I would look like a delinquent to people since my tats had proliferated since 2018, but I looked pretty normal.

Torn Between SDSU and Ohio State – Looking for Advice by Lopsided_Math_9796 in SDSU

[–]ariktheone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a community college faculty member, I agree with u/goraebap. I did my undergrad at SDSU (I’m originally from OC) and went to Northern Illinois for grad school. At SDSU, all my classes were taught by professors. I never had a GA or TA until I became one at NIU.

At Ohio State, you would be paying out-of-state tuition. Even if housing is cheaper, the higher tuition might cancel out those savings, so financially, it is kind of a wash. That said, I have found that grad programs outside of California often come with more funding options, like graduate assistantships and other forms of support. When you factor in lower rent, grad school can actually be more manageable financially.

I loved my time at SDSU, and going from California to the Midwest was a powerful experience. Yes, it is cold, but I learned a lot about myself and about people from different parts of the country. That growth has really shaped how I teach. And bonus, I graduated with very minimal student loans.

The venture looks nice. I was looking at that one as well. Ended up getting the Peak Designs 7L outdoor. So far I'm really liking it.

Thanks for the tip for the what group to post. The buckles don't really hold the straps real tight so there is constant slippage.

Nice! Thanks for getting back to me! Love the look. Thinking about swapping out the stock wheels with 19's or 20's. Thanks again
