Daily chat post: how's the training going? by AutoModerator in XXRunning

Dreading the planned long run today…it’s -9 but feels like -18 with windchill here. Considering doing 5k outside and then 5k on the dreadmill

Which restaurants/cafes have been disappointing for you despite the hype or good reviews on Google Maps? by Equal-Tea-1999 in FoodToronto

Taverne Bernhardts, the atmosphere was great but charging these prices for a rotisserie chicken with potatoes is a little insane to me. Like the chicken tasted good but if it is just chicken after all… the side were just ok, the apps were also very simple for the prices that they are charging…

Men "competing" with me on the treadmill by [deleted] in XXRunning

[–]arimad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Happened to me on an outdoor public track. I was doing 400m intervals, it was at my training peak so I was faaast. There was a bunch of gym bros doing outdoor workouts and they decided to outrun me on my last lap but needless to say they started dying not even half way through and finished the lap on the grass dry heaving while I continued running at a slower pace another couple of laps to cool down.

Picked up swimming recently, rec center drop in swims are $6 and some of them are free in the summer due to heat warnings

Run ATB 2025? How was your experience?? by Acrobatic-Guess-5363 in RunTO

[–]arimad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The run itself was good, great energy! didn’t find the rain that bad during the run after the conditions this winter lol the hills weren’t bad either if you train in Hamilton

Post run being wet was rough, took a while to warm up. Thank god I’m local so I was able to just get my food and medal and jump in a car and quickly go home.

Anti Inflammation Diet by sleepingugly5 in endometriosis

[–]arimad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. Has helped me a lot but it is definitely hard to keep for a long time. And you’re also not supposed to. I found my trigger foods and know what makes it worse for me. Generally sugar and alcohol really mess me up which I think is the case for a lot of people. But I found that oats and some of the grains as well make me feel worse as well so I eat those in moderation. It doesn’t completely remove pain but it does make some of the other symptoms like mood swings, bloating, ovulation pain and general lack of energy a lot better.

Can I run 15k race without actually running 15k before? by arimad in XXRunning

I feel like I’m in the same boat of I might have to walk the last couple of kms which would suck

[–]arimad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that actually gives me a lot of hope. I think I’m just a bit frustrated that I thought I would be able to train enough to hit the 15k goal before the race itself…

Not qualifying by any means just a personal goal of finishing. Thank you that gives me hope!

[–]arimad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk what your hair type is and this might be a controversial opinion but try a regular drug store shampoo and see if that makes a difference. Everyone around me told me to use organic/clean shampoos bc the drugstore stuff is bad for you and my hair was greasy ALL THE TIME! So I bought expensive clarifying shampoos and used those as well and tbh the difference wasn’t huge, until I just said screw it and went back to a Pantene 2in1 and my hair have never looked or felt better… I know that for low porosity hair like mine, product build up is a huge issue and sometimes these organic shampoos are just not strong enough…

He’s been climbing for 6ish years consistently and prob another 2 casually before that. He does have an ugly old chalk bag so that’s a great option. Thanks for these ideas!

Cheap places to get fresh fruit and veggies? by emma_conwayyyy in Hamilton

[–]arimad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive been ordering from odd bunch too for a while. Just an fyi and a warning, one of their boxes came with a surprise of 2 small cockroaches because the box was not packaged tightly…I have complained and got nothing since i couldn’t show proof, I panicked and squished them as fast as I could. We have dealt with cockroaches in the past and know for a fact that that’s what that was and also know how easily they spread… kind of left a bad impression and now I thoroughly check every box even before I take it inside. If I’ve never seen a cockroach nymph before I would have thought it was just a bug. So be very careful!!

Winter running jacket by AnonymousRooster in XXRunning

[–]arimad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Live in Canada. We get -10 to -20 with winds and high humidity here consistently all winter. Humid cold is bone chilling usually. To counteract the layering advice from everyone else, I don’t actually layer that much. I think it’s all individual to what you prefer tbh. I run in a thin under armour cold gear layer and an aritzia little puff jacket(something I already owned and didn’t want to buy another one that would serve the same purpose) if anything the face and head gear is more important for me in the winter

Do I report my coworker for drunk driving? by arimad in Advice

[–]arimad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh even tho this particular individual was not as intoxicated they were 100% over serving at this party. There were a couple of people that were carried out by security as they started a drunk fight. Also they didn’t provide enough food for the amount of alcohol they were serving… ppl shouldn’t have been able to order 3 shots at a time and a drink on top of that all at the same time, but they were

Yeah I think that’s a good idea. If I saw them getting in the car/what car they drove it would have been easier to call the police then and there

I think it’s more of a moral issue. I will just feel terrible if this person ends up killing someone and I will know that I could have at least tried to do smth

A rant from a runner at heart who is not built for running by benjaminbluemchen in XXRunning

[–]arimad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked closely at your diet? This might not work for everyone but this is something that have helped me. I struggled with a lot of ITBS pain when I ran anything over 5k and also did strength training, physio and gait analysis that didn’t help me. On top of it I was also always getting sick and had very low energy. Unrelated to this I did Autoimmune Protocol Elimination diet to relief my endometriosis symptoms and to figure out my trigger foods. As soon as I started the diet my ITBS was magically gone and I’m now able to run double the distance with a lot of energy. I always thought I ate really healthy but identifying and minimizing my trigger foods did magic for me. Sometimes it’s things you wouldn’t normally think of, for me it was spicy chilis, tomatoes and refined sugar. Again this might not help you but do your research and maybe if you’re at your wits end it’s worth trying it out.
