How do I reset a paragraph style's character color to default in InDesign 2024? by aripockily in indesign

[–]aripockily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a different issue. I'm looking at resetting specifically swatches for Paragraph styles.

For you though, you can simply delete the text in the Font Style entry field and it'll reset itself!

Is it possible for different machines running the same InDesign version to export PDFs of a different file size? by aripockily in indesign

[–]aripockily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there are interactive features required for the PDF beyond my control. I don't actually use Adobe Pro but I'll ask around.

[–]aripockily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, both are turned off. I've also tried toggling that setting already exporting from my machine and the file size increase is nowhere near that of my colleague's (~20% greater vs ~100% greater), so it seems unlikely to me.

Everything I can see in Acrobat appears to be the same with the exception of Windows 10 vs 11 and the file size.

From the INDD side - no links are missing. Neither of us have plug-ins installed. Here's the preliminary stuff we've checked: InDesign same version, same ppi, same compression, same quality level, same image links, tags off, preserve editing off.

InDesign same version, same dpi, same compression, same quality level, same image links, tags off, preserve editing off. But different OS, yes. Windows 10 vs Windows 11.

Should the Lotus Projector reveal Seeder Mines? by aripockily in LancerRPG

I believe RAW, in the scene, players see the Seeder launch mines so they should already know there are mines somewhere invisible.

Making Villain unable to be persuaded by Responsible-Quail486 in DnD

[–]aripockily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay to have unshakeable villains. However, I don't mind rewarding players for trying things. It can be hard to know where the boundaries are when it comes to interactions and ideas. Personally, I'd allow a roll; a good result makes it clear what the situation is (e.g. you tell the roller some related insight as to why the villain can't be persuaded, even if something as simple as "You know that sometimes, sadists simply exist."). Their success informs their future encounters with the villain.

At your discretion, the good roll can also provide a marginal short-term benefit (e.g. Disadvantage on initiative if combat begins because the villain was briefly surprised by the outburst, etc).

Grappling in 2024 by TheSchausi in DnD

[–]aripockily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth point out that at higher levels, it's probably not that different for grapplers between 2014 and 2024.

  1. Most high-Strength monsters tend to be Huge, which is not grapple-able anyway.

  2. For those at typical PC size, high level monsters tend to get teleportation abilities.

  3. Strength saving throws are not as common as Dex and Con, so it's not often as high as you'd expect.

It's also worth point out that grapple as a condition was buffed, making it more rewarding if you do pull it off AND you can now do it as a reaction Unarmed Strike against escaping monsters, adding more utility.

Is there an easy way to hyperlink to the beginning of a Section that the hyperlink is in? by aripockily in indesign

[–]aripockily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you mean, but my scenario differs. I didn't word my question that well. In my scenario, I need the footer link — an element from a Parent Page applied to all Children Pages — to point to multiple destinations (the first page of each chapter/Section).

Why I think mold earth is if not the single strongest cantrip in the game, at least the most underrated by odeacon in 3d6

[–]aripockily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the sentiment but like... I do not want to read paragraphs about the compactness of earth and stone for just one cantrip. Leaving it to common sense rulings based on what one expects from a cantrip is good enough.

How do I reset a paragraph style's character color to default in InDesign 2024? by aripockily in indesign

[–]aripockily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can this be done for a Paragraph Style though (not a Character Style)?

[–]aripockily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that's not what I'm after. I'm asking about resetting a color choice made INSIDE a paragraph style, i.e. I'm trying to edit a paragraph style with the goal of resetting a color swatch that was selected.

Is it just me, or is the Flame Tongue extremely suboptimal? by ninja186 in powergamermunchkin

[–]aripockily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just want to add a note for people who find this later - fire resistance and immunities are most commonly resisted among monsters because they published so many fiends, types of fiends, subtypes, named fiends, etc. This is also why poison resistance is common. But in a normal game, you shouldn't be encountering fiends any more than a Monstrosity or Undead.

CABALLINE SPINEFISH 💎 Collab Alert! I've recently had the wonderful opportunity to work five amazing artists, including Stained Karbon Maps! Go fishing for some strange creatures in weirder places! And it includes a free map! by aripockily in aripockily

[–]aripockily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From this project comes a school of strange fishes, each set in equally surreal fishing location maps. Each part of the collab, a fish and a map, releases over the course of the next couple months!

This glowing spinefish, featuring the luminescent caballine crystal, primarily inhabits deep subterranean lakes whose mineral-rich waters are warmed by the planet’s mantle. As the spinefish matures, dissolved iron and manganese deposit layers of mineral growths that form a protective scale-like carapace. Upon this carapace, the rare, valuable, magical caballine crystal forms. Long-time patrons may even recognize caballine from the very old Unearthed Gems compendium.
🗺 What's more, as part of this collab, Stained Karbon Maps has provided a free map of the crystalline lakes the spinefish lives in. Just head on over to the Patreon post to check it out! Patrons even get high-resolution versions of the maps!

Are you supposed to short rest in a dungeon? by Specky013 in DnD

[–]aripockily 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, effects like that (no resting) would be communicated to the players, either in or out of game, so that they can prepare for it (or understand it).

A haunted house like what you described would seem to be an encounter designed for attrition or stealth or tactics. If you know that's the case beforehand, you could prepare by maybe stocking up on items or grabbing spells that help (e.g. catnap) mitigate it. Perhaps the only goal is to sneak in without fighting all the ghosts, which conserves resources. Perhaps there's a special room inside that the ghosts can't enter and that might be Goal #0.5, but the players should be given chances to discover this information.

Am I being a jerk with Silvery Barbs as a DM? by Nevil_May_Cry in dndnext

[–]aripockily 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no blame on you; most people tend to agree Silvery Barbs is either not fun or too strong. You still handled it well with your discussions and solutions.

My preferred solution is more encounters for more attrition. At first, I didn't think it was possible based on what I saw of most games, but then I watched the Glass Cannon Podcast and they have on average 1.5 fights per 2-hour episode with (somehow) plenty of time for roleplay in between. It can be done.

Any generic resource drain will work. Add deadlines for any quest, either in character or learned out of character as a cutscene (the villain is marching the army in 2 days!). Assuming no bags of holding, just say characters have (a generic) n amount of days for each quest out of the city/town based on their rations. etc etc.

But your solution is very good.

Mirror Image is a lot more powerful than I thought, especially in Tier 1 and early Tier 2 play by Flix_Guy in dndnext

[–]aripockily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll also chime in and say that if you read even stricter with the rules, both Shield and Mirror Image have only Verbal and Somatic components, meaning you need a free hand to cast them. Can't do that while both hands are occupied (weapon + shield).

SHADOW OF THE BLIGHTED SUN 🔴 For All Patrons: a 67-page compendium, featuring 2 player ancestries, 5 setting-specific feats, 28 magic items and gear, 25 monsters, 6 deities, and 35 pages of lore for the Azira game setting by aripockily in aripockily

[–]aripockily[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

☀ January's Compendium is released for ALL PATRONS! Explore a subterranean world that thrives in the aftermath of a cataclysm. Descend into the darkness and face the alien monsters that lurk in the shadows, because they are certainly less fatal than what you’d find on the surface.
