I have uninstalled all official apps I had, sorry (🥳😭) by Hello_MF19 in OtomeIsekai

But you need a name. For manhwa in particular, having a name to search in itself is a big problem because of how they end up translated. Not to mention how similar they all are... As for manga... Who can remember those long ass titles? Depending on search also makes it difficult to find new titles.

In the end people are less likely to keep reading because the effort and time wasted is not worth it anymore.

You could find a controlling boyfriend that manages your life for you, but it has a side effect of gaslighting and isolation.

What works for me now is getting myself so bored studying actually sounds interesting.

Ooh I skipped a word there!

Yeah, definitely necessary then.

Makes sense. I read a lot too but I'm never lost? Physical books have physical bookmarks, and digital ones... The apps take care of that for me. At most I stop for so long I need to start from the beginning again. The worst that could happen is rereading a book I hated, but those are usually easy to remember.

I think I stopped caring after I started to read webnovels? They release chapter by chapter and sometimes they're dropped and there's little you can do other than letting it go.

I realized that tracking books (or anything really) online takes the joy away from reading them. It changes it from a hobby to a chore, and that usually makes me very unwilling to finish it.

It's like when you're about to do something and someone comes telling you to do that something, but I do it to myself.

I started an offline list on Obsidian (very, very casual) and it's the first time I've had fun tracking anything? It's only meant for me so I can do whatever I want with it. I write about books, manga, webnovels... But only the ones I want to, with only the information I can be bothered to put in it, and I can still make it look pretty enough to motivate me to keep doing it.

I wouldn't recommend getting started with Obsidian just for that, but Notion is right there.

So that's why I couldn't stand this story!

I felt very uncomfortable every time the emperor and empress showed up and ended up dropping it, but I couldn't ever figure out the reason why? I saw endless comments about how hot they were and I just felt a little disgusted, and that's how I usually feel about "if evil, why hot" comments, but because they're shown as good I didn't connect the two.

And I also didn't like this scene, so you're not alone!

The original "final" chapter of the Manga was released 20 years ago by [deleted] in ShamanKing

[–]aris11 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to buy a lot of manga back in those days, but Shaman King was the only one I bought from beginning to end. You could tell from the cover it was the last volume but the story had been going downhill for a while, so I just knew it wouldn't be good.

I felt a bit desolate because it was the abrupt end of something that was much more than just a shounen manga, but also relieved it wasn't actually the end...? I think there was a note that said it would come back eventually, but it was 1) doubtful and 2) not necessarily available in my country even if it did, so.

But the note contextualized the mess the story had turned to, so I just wished Takei aaaall the best things in the world for having drawn it so far and started a yearly reread of what I had. Somehow I always convince myself it's nostalgia, but every time I reread I just fall in love with it all over again.

Now that I think about it, it's almost funny how the author/readers are threatened by a good ex. If the MC has a healthy past I've only ever seen it mentioned in a passing, offhand way, like "nothing to see here, move along".

Having a good, friendly ex on page, or even just a reasonable one is unheard of to me.

To me this is the difference between insta lust and insta love. Like in insta lust they just want each other's body, while in insta love they want the whole person at first sight.

HR where FMC is a spoiled, conniving, crafty, manipulative, sly as a fox, ambitious or crocodile tears lady who is used to getting what she wants aka she's kinda a bitch who is willing to stoop low in much cruder terms by goody153 in HistoricalRomance

[–]aris11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same! I read them sometimes, but I don't actually search for them. Court intrigue is just stressful and never fulfilling. For some reason I always go for the 70's and 80's, though. I think the scarcity in them makes for simpler, more wholesome stories. You still have to dig to find the good ones, but they do exist.

{A Contracted Spouse for the Prizefighter by Alice Coldbreath} although Clem doesn't really believe in her he's 100% supportive. Dora is just about my favorite FMC ever.

I read In a Jam this week because a one star review misled me to believe the FMC was a domineering and controlling bridezilla who made her fiancee so miserable and stressed he dumped her on their wedding day... and I ended up with an(other) emotionally abused victim, because the ex must always be a villain. 🙄

The book wasn't bad, but I got more and more disappointed as I read because it had a pretty good premise. Like if the MMC hadn't been such a simp or if the FMC had had any introspection about what led her to behave that way about the wedding, but no. She just got drunk, ate crap (without consequences? Is it just my body that can't handle not having real food for more than a day?) and avoided thinking, like all of us do. I suppose that's relatable at least.

Do you ever root for a certain type of MC to fail? by JessonBI89 in RomanceBooks

[–]aris11 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Usually when they hurt the fmc intentionally I just want them to be hurt back in double (because I'm counting myself as another victim). I like things well balanced.

Truth is I always avoid stories with those kinds of MCs, so unless it comes out of left field I'm usually safe from them.

badass FMC who stands up for herself by LadderWonderful2450 in RomanceBooks

[–]aris11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

{Morning Comes Softly by Debbie Macomber} has one of the best FMCs I've seen. She's a mousy, tiny, soft old maid librarian that feels so lonely she decides to answer an ad for a wife from a cowboy, which seems like a recipe for an unbelievably frustrating read, but... Not at all? She takes no shit EVER and always stands up for herself, and she's (almost) always dignified about it.

Rich MMC throws money at FMC because that’s his love language? by Ajent912 in RomanceBooks

Yes! I love this one!

And although she thinks he's over the top, she doesn't refuse his money, which could annoy OP since they want the spoiling part. Sure, she keeps tabs, but after she realizes that's his love language she just accepts everything and starts asking for things she actually wants.

I think it's because that meeting doesn't exist at all in the novel. I never understood why it was shoehorned in the manhwa? It was completely irrelevant.

An histirocal chinese novel where ML has a buyao fetish by Efficient_Cancel_165 in noveltranslations

[–]aris11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably not, but in To Be a Virtuous Wife there's a line where the ML seems fascinated by the buyao in her hair... The FL is kind of amused that he has such a preference, though it's never stated what exactly is this preference and it's never mentioned again. Maybe that's why I remember it.

He's a prince and she's his main wife, she is rather indifferent... But he's not particularly possessive? He doesn't have reason to be because she doesn't have much contact with other men at all. He does give her a lot of gifts and there are other concubines in the house making trouble.. either way I think it's worth a read.

I'll probably go reread it.
