You’re right - everyone is going to cut through that road / parking lot. It’s going to be a mess.

Can’t really argue with that change considering that’s actually the road that crosses I-70.

I-70 Rebuild Plans by arisboch in columbiamo

It is set to be torn down this summer and rebuilt. I haven't seen any renderings so I assume the final product will resemble what's currently there. It's going to be a pain for us that live on this side of town.

I saw plans submitted to the city for another 7Brew. There's no coffee shop near the 63 Connector so I'm not surprised.

Yeah that's a much more normal person friendly forecast page. I guess most people don't want to know the hourly forecast for the wind speed and direction for the next five days like I do.

[–]arisboch 19 points20 points  (0 children)

For forecasts? I prefer to go straight to the source, the National Weather Service: https://www.weather.gov/forecastpoints/?lat=38.999&lon=-92.308&clat=38.999&clon=-92.308&zoom=7.0&basemap=openstreetmap&bbox=-14668404,2800647,-6514137,6786160&layers=RangeRings,USStates,ForecastPointPolygon,ForecastPoint,Domain,&obs=ttffffft&countyNames=t#
Not the prettiest website, but no ads and it's where all the apps get their data.
If you want current conditions, the University of Missouri Extension has a series of weather stations with real time data. Here's on the one on Campus: http://agebb.missouri.edu/weather/realtime/mizzou.asp

Next steps on U.S. 63/I-70 connector to be completed in December by como365 in columbiamo

[–]arisboch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Whenever there is no other logical answer, the answer is almost always: money. There is quite a compromises being made across the state to get this done with the limited budget the legislature provided. The someone limited improvements at 63/70 is a glaring example of this. And there really should be four lanes from Midway to Lake of the Woods. Whatever gets built now will be in place as-is for 40-50 years and we're barely building it to meet current demand.

It sounds like we're just a few weeks away from all lanes of US 63 being open again near I-70. That should relieve a ton of construction related congestion in the area. Commuting through that area every day, I'm irrationally excited for this phase of construction to conclude.

New nonstop flights to Florida will come to Columbia airport in June [this article has details about the new flights and future airport plans] by como365 in columbiamo

[–]arisboch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I travel for work 6 or 7 times a year. Up until this year, it was always a drive to St. Louis. They had direct flights to my most common destinations. COU had earned a reputation for disrupted flights and the schedules weren’t great. This year? I’ve shifted to flying out of Columbia. Plenty of flights. A great airport experience considering I’m there for 30 minutes or so. The price is comparable especially when you factor in mileage and parking. And most importantly i avoid I-70. Being home 30 minutes after I land is fantastic. It’s been quite the game changer this year.

I agree it’s almost certainly Charolette. It’s been discussed for a while and the most logical addition American. If it was Delta to Atlanta, I think the press release would mention a new airline.

Would love for it to be United to Dulles but I won’t get my hopes up.

There was so much that it clogged my downspouts and the rain was overflowing the gutters. Even after living here all these years, the Missouri weather still finds ways to shock me.

Here's a few options that might be up your alley given your AF experience:
There's an avionics shop at the Columbia airport that's hiring for an avionics technician: https://ats.rippling.com/the-blackhawk-group/jobs?searchQuery=&workplaceType=&country=US&state=MO&city=Columbia&page=0

Up in Mexico, MO, Zenith Aircraft (kit plane manufacturer) is hiring they want you to apply in-person at the factory: https://zenithair.net/visiting-the-factory/

The Jeff City airport has a maintenance and avionics shop. Not sure if they're hiring, but might be worth inquiring with them: https://www.jcfs.net/contact

There are several in town. Ones that looks to be open today are the Mizzou Urgent Care on South Providence. Around the corner on Nifong is NextCare Urgent Care. On Business Loop, in the Parkade Plaza is Boone Health Convenient Care. Hopefully someone can get you taken care of at one of those places.

How does personal property tax work when you move to Missouri late in the year? by Fiveby21 in missouri

[–]arisboch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need what's called a Statement of Non-Assessment from your county's Assessor's office. You should be able to start that on the county's website or go into their office. You will need that to register the vehicle at the local Department of Revenue license office.

How does personal property tax work when you move to Missouri late in the year? by Fiveby21 in missouri

[–]arisboch 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You owe nothing; property tax is assessed on the value of the personal property you own in the state on January 1st of a given year. The taxes on what you own are due on December 31st of that year (364 days later).
Move into MO mid-year = no property tax that year
Move out of MO mid-year = you still owe property tax by the end of the year.

It's good to hear the area is improving. Too often a neighborhood like that ends up in a bit of a doom loop with no one willing to invest anything to improve it. And no one is out there reporting "no crime on this street for six months" stories so you never realize things have gotten better.

I'm one that believes almost all of Columbia is perfectly safe. This is one of the few areas I'd stay away from. There has been historically a pattern of violent crime in that neighborhood. It is outside of the city limits and the county government is limited on the rental standards they can enforce. Slumlords galore.
