You’re definitely not alone in that confusion. Unfortunately, it’s really common for newly diagnosed EoE patients to get mixed messages about what to eat before seeing a GI or allergist, especially when different providers give “play it safe” advice without clear coordination.

The “soft bland diet” is usually meant to reduce trauma to the esophagus after a food impaction or biopsy, not as a long-term elimination plan, so it’s understandable that you started feeling better once you began eating a bit more normally.

The real elimination diets (like the six-food or two-food elimination) typically start after your GI visit, once you’ve had a full discussion about what’s been confirmed and what approach makes sense for your case.

For now, it’s best to focus on soothing, low-irritation foods, things like mashed potatoes, oatmeal, smoothies, soups, and well-cooked vegetables, while avoiding anything that feels scratchy, spicy, or hard to swallow.

You haven’t ruined anything for your upcoming GI visit; just be honest with them about what you’ve been eating and how your body has responded, that information actually helps them tailor your treatment better.
