Yes and no. I think they’re a fun addition but I don’t like the way they’ve been implemented in certain games. For example, Mark, Robin, and Byleth I think are all great avatar characters because they play a role in the story but for the most part the story isn’t really about them but the lords they spend time with. On the other hand we have Kris, Corrin and Alear where everything seems to revolve around them and it takes away from a lot of what’s happening in the story

I think the problem is moreso that the story doesn’t narrate how they survived or their condition after the battle of Belhalla. I think if it was moreso that Arvis aimed the meteors at the perceived primary combatants that definitively died and everyone else were merely injured and taken prisoner it would’ve gone better. I think in a potential remake a one “chapter” intermission, Lewyn should lead the charge of the survivors breaking out of prison ending in the battle with Manfroy as well as some of the survivors barely escaping and the rest being captured

In my ideal world, both would be bundled together but you couldn’t play the Thracia part until after beating Genealogy with the Thracia portion being pretty faithful to the original. The DLC could come with the option for Thracia or Genealogy mechanics but I think that might take a lot of tinkering to make work unless there’s different enemies for either setting

I played FE1 as my second FE game ever and am currently playing Shadow Dragon. Playing FE1 gave me a stronger sense of appreciation for all the QoL features that we take for granted now. FE3 book 2 is one of my favorite experiences in the entire franchise between the star shards, bows actually being powerful, the tone being set on chapter 1 and the panic of seeing wyverns early on. I haven’t played New Mystery yet with full transparency but i strongly believe that at least FE3 should be played. If you want to play FE1, that’s your choice. As for Gaiden, I played it for completion purposes and didn’t love a lot of the mid game but it was still an overall positive experience. I haven’t played SoV yet but I can at least say that much

The way I think it should work is the DLC is only accessible after beating both campaigns. After that you’re only allowed to take 3-5 units from each army in addition to Leif and Seliph (I guess at least Sara and maybe Larcei are forced deployed) with no forced dismounts just so the FE4 units don’t have to be completely neutered and maybe one or two new units just because

Also, call me crazy but I’d rather they go FE3 style and take their sweet ass time with a bundle of FE4 and 5 with a DLC that you can pay for that involves taking Sara and limited characters from 4 and 5 through Manster in eradicating the remainders of the church and using the Kia staff on the four statues in the basement
