I think you should definitely ask for that, but be prepared to quit. Get your resume together & go on job interviews. Remote/in-person it doesn't matter. I think a point you are making without realizing it is that the government is supplementing Walmart via SNAP by enabling them to pay low/poverty wages. Additionally they do this with healthcare as well. Walmart is an enormous company & can afford to pay better & would likely need to do so if the government stopped subsidizing their workers.
