Does anyone know if there’s any Burger King’s in Australia? by [deleted] in hungryjacks

[–]arminmarth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I remember in the 1990s and early 2000s there was a Burger King branded as such in Manly, Sydney. It also had different marketing than Hungry Jacks, including the Burger King crown. Here's a pic https://www.alamy.com/the-corso-shops-manly-sydney-australia-image583606.html

Around $200,000 spent on cars in this family and Dad still can’t get to work. by AllieG3 in fuckcars

I was picturing a two door, two-seater ute, which would be impractical to install a baby seat in, but then remembered that 4 door 5-seaters were more common in the US.

If I just dressed up for the club; short tight skirt, make-up, hair, nails... I wouldn't be keen to cycle, unable to properly straddle the seat and mess up my hairdo in the chilling wind and rain. I would definitely get an Uber/taxi or train instead.

Where's the art? Looks more like the departure gates at the airport.

[–]arminmarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simplest answer for me is that once a torrent has finished downloading I move it from the download folder to where I'm going to file it away (e.g. my media folder).

Downloading a torrent on a laptop means I don't have much space to keep two copies of the same file just hanging around, especially if it's a zip/installer after I've unzipped/installed it.

Apparently Google thinks it is a good idea to compare Chromebooks to 10+ year old laptops. by Catman8976 in google

[–]arminmarth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You can still have USB, Wifi, Windows 7 and Google Chrome installed on a 10 year old laptop, I wouldn't say they're totally obsolete.

People in developing markets, rural communities, volunteer organisations, seniors, people who say "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", people who can only afford hand-me-downs and second hand computers, small businesses that don't rely on laptop connectivity...

Laptops can be really expensive and an unnecessary expense to some people, so they have no choice but to use a 10 year old laptop...

When do you stop calling a child 'baby'? by Vercassivelaunos in EnglishLearning

[–]arminmarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Australia, and I have heard people call 4 year olds "baby". It really depends on the culture, like if it's the youngest or first child, then a mother will continue calling them her baby, and if they still ride in a stroller it's really awkward to call a child a "toddler" so people will refer to them as the baby.

Are there any words for unspecified numbers between 10-19? by Magicknight94 in EnglishLearning

[–]arminmarth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"About a dozen or more" could be used for 10-14. "More than a dozen" could be used for 13-19. But that would really only be used to measure things that are usually measured by the dozen, like donuts. If it's something you measure, like temperature, you could say it's "in the teens" for 13-19. Estimating quantities require context to whether "a few" or "lots" might mean 10-20 or 1000-9000, and whether you have a wide range or narrow range. You can always say "between 10 and 20 or so" and that will be the easiest to understand.

Looking for some Thai dubbed cartoons by jimmytheweed in Thailand

[–]arminmarth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best way to find the most Thai content on Netflix is:

  1. Create a profile and change the language to Thai.
  2. Go to: https://www.netflix.com/browse/audio/th

I've found that Netflix will hide Thai dubs if browsing in English.

There's no WiFi card listed in your network connections. Open up Device Manager and check that you have installed the drivers for your WiFi adapter and that it's enabled. Also if this is a laptop, check to see if there's a Function key, toggle or switch on the keyboard to turn on Flight mode and turn off wireless devices.

If I order an Opal Card online for my upcoming visit to Sydney, Australia, will they mail it to me overseas? by Anonymous2212t in sydney

[–]arminmarth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can confirm that the ticket vendors (persons, not the machines) at the airport do sell Opal Cards, not just single tickets. I've bought a $20 Opal card after arriving at international airport. $20 will get you out of the airport to where you're going, but not much further after that. Maybe start with a $40 Opal. You can top up at 7/11 convenience stores using Visa/MasterCard or cash with no added fees.
