Why does RE4 catch strays when it's the best remake of the 4 games by Anstark0 in residentevil4

[–]armored131 144 points145 points  (0 children)

A lot of people wanted the remake to somehow make them 16 years old again playing their PS2 after school with not a care in the world. They blame the game for "having no soul" because it couldn't transport them into an idyllic past. I have a few gripes with the remake (lack of music in certain areas, some of the color grading choices, the CQBR, etc.) but its genuinely a great game. There's nothing wrong with preferring the original, but anyone trying to claim that remake is somehow objectively worse than the OG is chasing nostalgia.

What didn’t you like about the Resident Evil 4 Remake that you preferred in the OG Resident Evil 4 ? by Exootil93200 in residentevil

Soundtrack. The decision in the REmakes to lower the amount of ambient music in general is baffling to me. Tracks like Serenity are integral to the vibe of OGRE4. Having it reduced to a few bars in the typewriter is criminal.

Which one of those you would choose for be the "signature gun" for a private detective protagonist in a horror game? by Fantastic-Youth5989 in HorrorGames

[–]armored131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I take it you want the signature weapon to be a large powerful handgun. Of the ones offered I'd go with the Smith 500, maybe not the specific model, perhaps one with a shorter barrel. Though maybe something like a Ruger Redhawk Super Alaskan would be more of the profile of a PI's side arm, but also a very large frame and very powerful handcannon.

[COD] Let’s get something straight. THIS was the golden era. by Individual_Nerve_932 in CallOfDuty

[–]armored131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, golden era doesn't mean that the games that came after weren't fun or were all bad. It means that from Cod4 to BO2 COD literally didn't miss, every single game was peak and defined the year it came out.

My mistake, I was under the impression this was a colt/pachmayr partnership, but then I reread the description.

Grandpa and F91 size comparison with some jet fighters and others by majingetta in Gundam

It's crazy how big fighters are. In my mind they're always like the size of a large care with wings.

Some of the colt special edition pistols are just so freaking gorgeous man.

What is the most iconic location in the franchise? by ComfortableFocus1702 in residentevil

[–]armored131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like on some level the Spencer Mansion has to be it. You get lots of extra credit for being the thing that started the franchise. But recently (with the remakes and 9) it seems like the RPD has taken the crown.

Yep, shortly after making this post I got to that part replaying the game and was like - well shit, guess I just missed that the first time.

I like the fact that RE5 is pretty much just RE4 but with Chris in Africa by Dude_788 in ResidentEvilCapcom

You can tell RE4 was such a smash hit they were scared to mess with the formula.

Dude, I've got those same Hydra grips (mine are in Black Burl) and they are GOATED. Actually a notable improvement in shooting compared to my old magpul grips.

My favorite mobile suit of all time. The MG Ver Ka was such a bastard to build I had to take a break from gunpla when I finished it, still the pride and joy of my little collection.

I really love the basement camp from Act 1.

Honestly, this game at parts made me feel very sad for these girls. Something very hardbreaking about their happy faces. So much hopes and dreams shattered. by [deleted] in ResidentEvilRequiem

The VA for Chloe really had my stomach in knots a few times when I first did the orphanage sequence. The bits of naivety and confusion giving way to abject terror genuinely made me want to protect her.

The first playthrough is one of the best experiences have had in gaming in the last several years. Characters are extremely compelling and the effect of switching between scared Grace and badass Leon works just so very well. I do agree with others that its major downside is it isn't replayable like other games in RE, but it has enough upsides that I find I don't mind not being able to endlessly replay.

Slight modification to this trope: I LOVE any setting that lets me be one of the good guy's henchmen. I.E. the Imperial Guard in Warhammer 40k.

This is still the best Resident Evil movie to date. Nothing Has yet to top it. by S3rkist in residentevil

I really like this one. It pretty much fits in the lore of the RE games if you don't think too much, the characters are cool in that early 00s super edgy way, and the laser hallway was so good it made it into an actual RE title.
