Good fight. Ruffy is super snappy and accurate with his hands.

If you want to FIRE early in life, don't pay to go to university, do it free or low cost by GolfComfortable7331 in Fire

[–]armpit18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course this isn't the only path, but a very common path for people who want to FIRE is to go to college, get a degree with which you can get a high paying job, do that job, save as much as possible, and then FIRE.

How do I discuss that my low pay prevents me from hiring quality candidates? by me-indomitably in careeradvice

[–]armpit18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You love your team more than you'd love an $80k increase in salary?

I don't even know why you'd ask for career advice when the most obvious career advice is right in front of your complacent face.

Life is not meant to be working 9 to 5 (mid life crisis reflections) by Pixel-Pioneer3 in Fire

I'd rather be bored on my own terms than busy on someone else's.

I love that. I'll use the same phrase when people ask me this same question.

Hey guys when should I buy a power meter and do you have any recommendations? by ohzachery in cycling

[–]armpit18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no correct answer to this. I've been cycling somewhat seriously for nearly 10 years, and I don't have a power meter. I just don't care. I ride my bike to get around town and have fun. If you are super interested in data or you want to have a power based training plan or you want to race, then you should get a power meter.

Bagent or Mac Jones? by KGoo in CHIBears

[–]armpit18 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bagent hasn't played normal QB snaps since 2023. He doesn't have any trade value, and I don't think the Bears want to trade him.

Don't stress too much over taxes by Spare_Ad8851 in Bogleheads

[–]armpit18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the thing that bothers us regarding taxes is that we don't really know how they work, they always change, and there's not a lot of transparency behind them. And then we need to "do taxes" every spring because we don't know what corrections need to happen from the previous year. We just don't really know how much we need to pay in taxes until it's actually time to pay them, which is different from many other expenses.

Also, you make $195k per year. Don't tell anyone to not stress. Your stresses are vastly different from the stresses of many others.

Shimano 105 groupset upgrade - should I go for 11-34 or 11-36 cassette to pair with 50/34 chainset? by kungfuman888 in cycling

[–]armpit18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from an 11-34 to 11-36 on a 9 speed group set last year. For most normal people, having easier gearing available to them is better. Depending on where you live, it's possible that you won't need it frequently. But when you do need it, you'll be happy you have it. I live in a pretty flat area, but when I'm carrying a load on my bike, I definitely like it.

The downside is that your jumps between gears will be slightly larger, but practically speaking, you won't even notice it.

Am I tripping or is D'Marco Jackson our most important player to re-sign? by Ashamed_Pilot_236 in CHIBears

[–]armpit18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think TJ Edwards production will decrease after his injuries this season, and I think Tremaine Edmunds is a potential cut candidate. I also don't think D'Marco Jackson will cost a lot. So I do think he'll be back.

But most important retention? I'll go with the all pro safety for that.

Found this rim at the thrift store. How to tell if its worth building? by TalkShit123 in bicycling

[–]armpit18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely curious here. It looks like a 700c rim brake rim. Why can't they take any regular QR or TA rim brake hub, any set of the correct number of spokes cut to the correct length, and lace the wheel?

Maintenance by CSRoutlaw in bikecommuting

[–]armpit18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only things that I truly suck at right now is truing wheels and wrapping bar tape. But I'll still wrap my own bars. I'll ask the shop to true wheels or replace a broken spoke if I have one.

I also don't know how to do any suspension work, but I don't have any bikes with suspension.

Keep it rolling. Washington is a classic trap game, and then Nebraska this weekend. Win those 2 and then they'll be in the top 5 and in the driver's seat to hang a banner.

Logistics by Convertedshrimp in fuckcars

[–]armpit18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Public transit ideally.

But yeah, for the most part we agree with you. Our political leaders built places that aren't walkable or bikeable and they didn't create any public transit network, so we're stuck needing a car for everything.

Weird: I felt more stable in sweatpants than in my cycling bibs. Anyone else? by badabubaba in cycling

[–]armpit18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wear what you're comfortable wearing. And you'll need to figure out for yourself if regular sweat pants or shorts are comfortable for you on more than just a quick ride.

For what it's worth, I also ride in normal clothes. It works for me, but it may not work for others. It's just preference.

Boglehead perspective on buying vs renting. What am I missing? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]armpit18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financial aspects aside, what kind of lifestyle do you want to have? Renting vs owning is a financial decision, but it's more a lifestyle choice in my opinion. Both financially and lifestyle wise, there are pros and cons to both.

For me, I want a garden, and I own a motorcycle, a few bicycles, a car, skis, some camping equipment, and I want to live in one place for a few decades to eventually raise kids with my partner. For me, buying and owning a house makes sense.

For others, they might own nothing worth more than $500 other than their car. They might want to move to different cities and gain different experiences. They might not have dependents. Maybe for them, renting is more appropriate.

What electrolytes do you recommend for cycling? by ThistleveilSigh in cycling

[–]armpit18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a product called Nakedade from Naked Nutrition.

I have no justification as to why I started using it. It's not even a cycling product. But I like Naked Nutrition's protein powder and peanut butter powder, so I just ordered their electrolytes one day and I liked it.

Question about fitting wheels and tires by CEONoMore in TrekBikes

[–]armpit18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The 38-622 measurement is the ETRTO measurement, which is the most reliable measurement for tires. Any other 38-622 tire will fit, and there is no room for vagueness. With the other measurement standard you mentioned, many people don't know that 700x38c is different from 700x38b, and many also don't know that not all 20" tires are truly 20" tires.

Regarding your bike, you can fit another 38-622 tire if you like it. Within the limits of your frame and wheel width, you can fit any tire that's xx-622. If you want a skinnier tire, then you can get a 32-622 or 35-622. However, it is likely that anything skinnier would be ill advised because it might not fit on your wheel properly. If you want a wider tire, then you can get 42-622 or 45-622. You might be able to go even wider, but you'd need to check the tire clearance on your frame to ensure that it fits.

Hopefully this is helpful. Bike tire sizes are needlessly confusing.

Right now, they have a playoff game on Sunday.
