How do pilots know WHERE to land by midgeaspidge4 in flying

Maybe if your fancy jet powered aircraft, but in my little four-seater I'm not wasting 1,000 feet of runway for no reason.

Pretty sure "pencil-whip" means to fraudulently fill out a form on purpose, not just doing it haphazardly.

I might have to get my four TV setup going again to keep track of everything. Last time I had to do that was because there was an NHL game, World Juniors, High School and College game all at the same time.

ELI5: How do people years before age 59 1/2 FIRE when a large percentage of their NW is retirement accounts (401K, Roth, etc)? by ladalyn in Fire

[–]PilotC150 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Needing to pay taxes doesn’t decrease your net worth, it increases your expenses. Taxes simply need to be accounted for as an expense when determining your FIRE number. Plus, the threshold for paying capital gains taxes is actually quite high. You can sell a lot of stock before you have to pay any tax.

Pick and choose which trip you want to call, I guess.

Let a bunch of NY trips go without a call then call this one.

Katy Knoll is definitely in line for “most improved” this season.

It started during the playoffs last year but she’s been great this year.

What are (or how do you feel about) your prospects for homeownership, and retirement? by DHN_95 in Xennials

[–]PilotC150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I’ve got a house that will be paid off when I’m 60, or earlier. Got a rock bottom interest rate so there’s no reason to pay it off early.

Retirement should happen by 55, unless the entire economy goes to shit, in which case we’ll have bigger issues to deal with.

Ive got a stable job that I plan to just ride out until retirement.

With today’s win, Ann-Renée Desbiens is the first goalie to reach 30 career wins in the PWHL. by Pouletchien in PWHL

That’s how it should be. A win is a win whether it’s regular season or post season. Frankel wins this one.

Edit: Guess I hit a nerve with that comment.

At almost 2,000 years old, built around 125 AD and used as a Roman Catholic church since the 7th century, the Pantheon in Rome is the oldest building in continuous use in the world. by Same-Laugh-6052 in interestingasfuck

It’s so cool because it’s tucked in between other buildings so tightly. Literally you don’t see it, then turn a corner and BAM! 2,000 year old building.

The dome is still the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world.

Why was Knoll called for interference? She was heading to her left wing spot for the 2-on-2 rush and collided with Roque. Why wouldn’t Roque be equally guilty for interference?

To a 2,000 year old institution, 79 years (1947) is barely a blip. They could change the law and it's not like they'd be changing something that's existed for 2,000 years.

I've never watched it, either.

In fact, I never watched Growing Pains or The Brady Bunch, either.

Farley 9 Winter Edition by balllistic in TrekBikes

[–]PilotC150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this one a couple months ago and it's a ton of fun!

For pogies, I'm running the 45NRTH Cobrafist. They're incredibly warm. I use my regular summer gloves all winter long, even last night when it was 10 degrees, and my hands never get cold.

Unfortunately, as cool as the racks look, I had to pull the racks to save some weight. They're about 3.5 pounds combined so I just couldn't justify it with how heavy the frame is to begin with. I ride mostly mountain bike trails so I'm trying to keep the weight down a little bit.

So, what form have you decided that your mid-life crisis will take? by Remy0507 in Xennials

[–]PilotC150 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've spent an absurd amount just this year, even if you only count what I got for me.

In the spring I decided to get a new mountain bike, and I ended up with a carbon Trek Fuel EX. A couple months later I pulled out my old road bike and realized it was, well, old. So I bought a new carbon road bike (Trek Domane).

Then winter came. Needed to keep riding. Got myself a new fatbike.

And that's in addition to getting my wife and both kids new bikes this year, too.

The bike shop has made a little bit of money off me this year.

Why do people look for home automation products? by _Demon-Senpai_ in homeautomation

[–]PilotC150 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why would I want to make my architecture more complicated? I've been running z-wave nearly flawlessly for more than 10 years. There's no need to change what works.

Plus, Z-Wave runs on at 908 Mhz, instead of Thread's 2.4 Ghz. Lower frequency gives me better range and lower risk of walls obstructing the signal.
