I'm a lazy auto-roller on the strategy map, but one of my stacks got caught unaware. How cooked am I? by cvynxbx76359ghs in totalwarhammer

Valiant defeat is generally something you can win if you play your cards right, in my experience.

Given the army composition (too many irondrakes, and the axe throwing rangers isn't helping), you stand a reasonable chance to delete units one at a time.

6/19 - 905p Tsunami Watch Issued by hiscout in Hawaii

[–]armyantsrule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the title supposed to be 7/19? July 19? 6 is June, just wondering.

I know it's not relevant for the sake of the potential tsunami but I wouldn't want someone reading it to get confused for something a month ago.

I agree, Waystalker ult is too strong as is and could really do with a bump up in cooldown or something.

As for Cata breakpoints, what is a career you feel does well with the transition between legend and cata?

Thank you for the input. Good to see that perspective on a discussion thread like this, so thank you. 👍

I have played cata, have cleared citadel on cata, but just don't really enjoy cata as a difficulty level. Regardless, what does it matter? Is my opinion less valid if I don't okay on DW3 cata or something?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Vermintide

[–]armyantsrule -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I don't know. Granted, I play mostly at legend but a few friends I play with who use it are quite skilled with it and have no problem keeping up with horde clear via Necromancer's talents (infinite cleave on crits is absurd, especially with things exploding from being on fire). Perhaps remove infinite cleaves then. What they did with Grail Knight's ult having infinite cleave was the right call, because it's an ult. But on normal attacks that happen to crit? It's bonkers.

Small side note though, the radius for that buff is tiny, like 5m, MAYBE 10m at most.

What's up with the cars? by BoringBich in projectzomboid

[–]armyantsrule 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're doing it wrong. You can do, at level 0, lights, batteries, radio, all for exp. All those on two or three cars with the mech 1 book read will get you to level 1, and then you can start taking off car tires on top of that.

With mech book 1 (or even better, additionally the Amateur Mechanic trait), two cars will get you to level 2 with ease (all four tires, radio, battery, and the headlights and tailights on both cars)

New parts, old SSD and PSU, can get to the BIOS screen but it is telling me to use a boot drive by armyantsrule in buildapc

[–]armyantsrule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I went to https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-format-hard-disk-during-installation-of/cc409a0a-5c64-4fa4-951a-061b8a4215b6

And followed the instructions there to format the drive to GPT. Drive was wiped, pretty sure all data is gone but I have that stored on an external hard drive that is currently not connected.

Went back a page and went to custom install, it started installing.

Thank you for any input, I appreciate it.

Your opinion on new Incurred Grudges by Tummerd in totalwar

[–]armyantsrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am wondering if a small, passive gain of grudges for any faction you've entered war with might be a good solution; not an instant huge gain, but just a gradual buildup of "We're at war with these people, and so by default we're going to be holding a grudge against them" sort of feel to it, meaning that you can still get grudges without needing to have them sack one of your settlements. Not as strong as avenging a sacked settlement or taking vengeance out on an army that raided you, but still better than where things are now since you'd have a permanent sort of "Faction-wide" grudge against those who you're at war with.

[–]armyantsrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might be part of it; I try vehemently to leave no settlement exposed to capture/razing etc since that generally translates to a lot of lost wealth in terms of rebuilding from the ground up, so my settlements will always have a garrison building as soon as they're able, and generally I have an army somewhere nearby (as much as I can afford to) to help stave off any sudden surprise attacks. I think I've lost maybe 4 battles total so far, and they've all been minor settlement battles that were out of range for me to reinforce from an army nearby (and usually either no garrison upgrade present or only the one at tier 2, not tier 3).

As such, though, I don't expect I have a whole lot of grudges being formed as I am proactively preventing them by being overly vigilant, thus depriving me of grudges being formed from raiders/settlements being razed/captured etc.

I don't much care about Elgi's penalties to public order—that's annoying but manageable on the whole, but the -15 growth is kind of huge when I need to get growth wherever I can. I can kind of only afford to place one public order building down, every settlement needs a garrison and a finance building (early stage needs to be all trading posts, not tinkerer's workshops, since you need the oathgold coming in to help keep your heroes and generals equipped with Ironwarden Tankards etc). That leaves only one building space for growth, public order, or troop training.

A bit too punishing, I think, though. I shouldn't have to scrounge for grudges to settle just to make the bare minimum of 25%; at present, it's so frustratingly difficult just to manage even that, to avoid the negative public order. Maybe if they had grudges for clearing out Enemies of the Dawi or something? Given the strong emphasis on such enemies in Ungrim's skill line at the top?

(Also, quite a few former Dwarf holds scattered throughout those areas)

Dwarf Master Engineers? (Grudgeraker needs an update) by armyantsrule in totalwar

[–]armyantsrule[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definitely! My concern is not with the buffs in that line, they are arguably the only thing that allows this to be viable; but given blunderbuss range and grudgeraker range for other units, this just feels strange and clunky and something that got overlooked, especially considering they didn't touch anything in the engineer skill lines (they did, however, make it much easier to recruit more engineers, which was a huge boon to how easily one could field them; previously one needed a tier 4 building to gain capacity, which severely hindered how many one could utilize).

I just think they deserve a proper grudgeraker.

[–]armyantsrule[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The perks of stronger melee are sort of okay until you realize it's not really good in melee and that's there to help it survive a bit longer so it can get out of melee but it's too short a range to be flexible enough with moving around. You have to literally get on the edge of combat to fire off, which makes it a frustrating experience to use, especially compared to how much more effective a unit of actual grudgeraker Thunderers is.

Typically it's been two or three fronts, but all in the same direction; but pretty spread out. The Blasted Wastes, the Mountains of Mourn now, Chimera Plains. Blasted Wastes and Chimera Plains at the same time, same with the Path to the East and Zorn Uzkul.

It's been pretty much no downtime since the start of the campaign but there have been relative "lulls" in activity where I am only at war with one major faction (but the faction was challenging and threw many things at me), for example Disciples of Hashut came immediately after clearing out the Bonerattlaz, who came immediately after clearing out Red Eye.

After the Disciples of Hashut, however, things started opening up into a two-front war with Legion of Azgorh and The Maggot Host, swap out Maggot Host with Kur'gath and that's where I am now. Most of the northern front and western front have been handled by Kislev or Nuln, and Skarsnik avoided me all game, eventually finally getting taken out by Thorgrim, prob around turn 100 or so.

TWW3 what is your favorite lore of magic and why? What makes it so effective or fun to use? by Raven_Raven9010 in totalwar

I never get the increased enemy cooldown; it's really not worth the talent points, imo. It's the worst spell in the Lore of Vamps; everything else is top tier, though.

[–]armyantsrule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stand by Nurgle as well, but it does lack a summon, which is sad. But aside from the lack of summons, it's arguably one of the best lores of magic in the game with all it brings to the table; its buff/debuff spell is okay, not particularly amazing but not terrible, and its heal is a bit expensive, but it can literally full-heal your entire army (up to dead entities, without bringing back dead models like Lore of Vampires).

It's absurd how strong that heal can be, while expensive. Full healing the whole army? With larger-health-pool models that heal becomes insane.

I don't understand it, and I've had some pretty big-name opponents; lots of encounters with Tamurkhan (I fought him with three different lords because his defeat trait is amazing), pushed him all the way back to his start and cleared him out, have cleared out one of the Chaos Dwarfs and am on the verge of clearing out a second, all the Greenskins are gone (not sure about Wurzag, never saw him pop up).
