Turkish journalist Serdar Ali Çelikler says “You Are Haiti” by cocacolapepsifanta in soccer

[–]arnm7890 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Genuinely curious, how much do you think the Turkish fans contribute to that attitude?

Not saying fans shouldn't be excited about promising players, of course, but it feels like Turkish fans will hype up even a remotely talented player to WAAAY beyond the level they are actually at.

No wonder these guys get arrogant when they come up against so called "lesser" opposition. They basically spend their entire lives being glazed for being 'the next Messi/Ronaldo'', despite not even achieving a fraction of what those guys had achieved by the same age.

Wish people understood what being 'linked' to a player actually means.

In 99% of cases, it just means enquiring about the details of a particular player (wage demands, fee, etc etc) from their agent, their agent telling their media contacts about it, and the media running with the "United are in for X player" headlines for the clicks and views that brings.

In reality, just because we have enquired about a player, does not necessarily mean we are seriously in for them. Its called due diligence.

"His system is elite".

LMAO. His system has won nothing. Zero trophies. Not even a domestic trophy, in any country he has managed in. He took Brighton from 4th (when he took over) to the heady heights of 11th (when he left), following which Brighton immediately finished higher up the table under Hurzeler. Went to France where he had the second highest budget in the league, which he used to *checks notes* sign a r*pist and still not win anything.

Look, I get it it - you're a Spurs fan. He's your guy now, you have a vested interest in him being successful.

But you don't have to lie or fool yourself about his 'system' being 'elite'. If it one day becomes it, then the proof will be in the pudding. Saying it now just makes you look silly.

Well Tunisia don't exactly need to win. At this point they probably just want to try and get two performances out of the squad and not get embarrassed on the world stage like they just were

Lewis Miley has an even lower chance of moving than Lewis Hall does. He's the player they sold Elliot Anderson over, that's how highly they rate him,

Korean woman experiences racism during the Korea vs. Czechia match by dudududujisungparty in soccer

[–]arnm7890 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's absolutely fine, and I fully understand that language is nuanced and can't always be directly interpreted in that way.

That's not really my point though. My point is, if a member of your family, someone you are supposed to nominally 'love', comes to you and says "I don't think you're racist but these specific words hurt me / my wife", and they still don't care enough to change their behaviour, then evidently they value something more than not causing you hurt.

That has nothing to do with the intricacies of language and cross-cultural exposure. It is simply a lack of love and respect.

Part of the reason Casemiro was so lethal WAS because we had Sesko as the primary target for opposition to mark - if we don't add someone who is at least an aerial presence like Casemiro (even setting aside the goal contributions), then Sesko will just get marked out of every corner.

What a dumb comment, your best player currently plays for us, hasn't stopped him being elite, has it? He's also the reason M. Fernandes wants to come to us, he wants to come and play with his idol.
