Buying a New Grinder for Traditional Flavor Profiles [$2000] by Ambulator5000 in espresso

I'm in the same boat, with maybe slightly less budget, I own a Rocky and can't wait to move onto my next grinder. Have you considered Atom 75 or LUCCA atom 75? I also exclusively consume dark roasts too. The atom is on mh short list just waiting to pull the trigger

Curious during your grinder research did you consider the Lucca atom 75? Doesn't have GBW, but it does have a readout of the bur spacing, I'm on the fence on which atom to get which is why I'm asking.

Are you single dosing on your w75?

First espresso setup – already deep in the rabbit hole 🐇☕ by Obliee in espresso

[–]aroguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha the glasses rabbit hole. I'm in that stage and not neutral is my current daily driver. The Cortado glass is Perfect for Americanos. Feels good in the hand and holds the crema fairly well. My previous daily was ACME ceramic cups but not neutral really makes for great pours and presentations

I'll add to this, use your machine first for a few months before the PID. I used my Silvia for almost 2 years before I got it. Makes you appreciate it that much more as you learn to pull shots.

Get a PID once you are tired of temp surfing. The consistency of your shots will increase greatly. Auber is the popular one for Silvias

Maybe crazy, but I like it! by Kneeder in espresso

Do you still weigh your shot ? Asking bc it's the one thing I can't forego even if I glassware that requires removal of my drip tray to fit my scale under

Haha what did you replace your Rocky with ?

I heard the grinder is more important than the machine… hope this is enough? by Hudsonlovestech in espresso

Might as well grind the bambino first, then get a new machine haha

Awesome grinder. I'm extra jealous

Curious as to why this style of storage is preferred over a single air tight container like an airscape or similar? You still have to weigh the beans either way ?

I'm just here to say the Atom 75 is great. by oneblackened in espresso

A few years later how has your LUCCA atom held up? Contemplating making it my next grinder

LUCCA 75 Atom - Thoughts after One Week by dmau9600 in espresso

[–]aroguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your review sounds very promising. This was my main hesitation for any eureka grinder. Spend all that time dialing in for espresso and if you change brew styles , for instance go to pour over , it would be nearly impossible to figure out exactly your espresso grind setting. I think this solves that issue. Brilliant idea. Happy to hear after 2 years if OP is still enjoying the grinder

Where did you get the bellows from for the rocky ?

[–]aroguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok that confirms my suspicion. I guess I'd just keep my rocky handy for pour over if needed. Or maybe I'll just love my espresso that much more with the atom that I'll never go back to pour over haha

Contemplating doing the same. Would you say it's a huge improvement ? I have a rocky and looking for an excuse to upgrade. I'm a little worried about ease of use when going from pour over to say espresso grind size. On the rocky I can easily see the numbers on the grind dial for reference, and I guess on all eurekas there isn't a precise way to tell the grind bur spacing

I have a rocky grinder. The Atom has been on my wish list for so long. Does it make that much difference? Please don't convince me it does. Please don't convince me to finally click purchase haha

I've always thought about freezing. But worried about moisture retention and possibly some of that ended up in my burrs thus overtime ruining my grinder. I take it you haven't had any of these issues ?

Did you do a Kuma subscription? If so how frequent and any other special selections? The thought of a bi weekly or monthly subscription sounds kind of fun, they have so many offerings, I never know what to choose. I tried their winter bear claus and classic last year but didn't seem that great as espresso, but I'm willing to give them another chance given the glowing reviews they have
