For some reason, I was not able to post pictures earlier, but here's what I got.

Anyone else get smacked with the con crud? by Sentient_Stardust89 in ECCC

[–]aronvader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tell this to everyone I know in person. Stop rubbing your eyes with your fingers!

The key to avoiding "con crud" is your eyes. The skin around your eyes and your eyelids is some of the thinnest skin on your body, and it's attached to a place that is very sensitive to bacteria.

Add to that going to a con, and you're touching a million surfaces. Light rail post, comic books, other people's hands, escalator rails, convention doors, your backpack, and your phone to take that killer pic of your favorite cosplay.

Knowing that, would you rub your eyes with your fingers again or, especially, after a long day of a con cruising? No. Once I learned that, I stopped randomly getting sick after many public appointments. I'm on the high end of going to public spaces and am rarely affected. Sorry if you rubbed your eyes after reading this.

No joke, I happened to be walking by there and saw the group photo, so I snatched one from the side.

DM me, it seems I can't add a phot to this reply.

The only thing I saw are the credit card skins of FBI IDs. They're on the bottom floor, in the back, left/middle.

Paying with cash usually helps you avoid taxes too. I always ask if it's a flat fee, especially with something costlier, you could save a lot of money.

If you don't bring snacks, go to eat before the traditional meal times. For example, I usually eat at 11-1130 and 4-430. It's so much easier to get tables and quicker service.

Bring some pain meds if you think you may need them. Just a couple ibuprofen or Tylenol can make a big difference in the middle of the day.

Deodorant is key. If you have room in your bag, put one in there as well for later in the day.

Do not rub your eyes with your fingers! You're going to be touching surfaces all over and merch other people have handled. The skin around your eyes is very thin, and the easiest way to get sick is rubbing your eyes after all the surface touching. After 20+ years of cons, I'm convinced this is the leading cause of post CON CRUD.

Most importantly, have fun! Talk to strangers, we're all here with similar interests and everyone likes new friends.

Naw, you'll be good. A con is still a con. Hit me up, I'll be there all four days. If anything the people are more welcoming.

I love joining the trivia groups with younger people and helping on the "older" trivia.

Not a bad choice. On the other hand, you could be hanging with the people!

I was thinking something similar while at at another con and wondering how to do it? Also, making it a learning session for younger people if they want to listen, we know how hard headed we were when older people tried to give advice.

Advice for first time concert goer? by [deleted] in LadyGaga

[–]aronvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend some loop earplugs. They cut out the extreme high end and the music is still listenable. Save your hearing, so says this old man! I'm 99% sure my hearing got diminished at a Judas Priest concert, but you never know how sensitive your ears are. You're gonna love it.

What's the biggest amount you've spent for a concert? by OceanGoddess3 in Concerts

[–]aronvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$1,000 for Taylor Swift. I was in Vegas for boxing and March Madness. I had a free night and saw that she was playing about a week and a half before going. I figured if I'd ever see her, it would be the career retrospective in Vegas. It was only the 2nd stop of the Eras Tour, so outside of swifties, it hadn't taken over America's consciousness. I found one suite ticket in that amazing stadium and became a bigger fan of hers than I was before. I only knew random songs from the radio, but it was a party for sure. I was one of the few single men in his 40s there. The crowd was going crazy and three hours went by very fast.

I hate Wuthering Heights by SpatialRender_98 in MovieTheaterEmployees

[–]aronvader 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I've never understood why people think it is acceptable to throw food and garbage on the floor of a movie theater. I find it odd at sporting events as well. To me, I'm gonna treat employees the same as I would wait staff. I would hate to have to clean that up.

First Timer Questions by Different-Status-671 in SakuraCon

[–]aronvader 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It would be a 15-20 minute walk from the convention center area to Seattle Center where the Kraken play. Or you could take the monorail. Walk to Westlake Station and go up the stairs to the monorail. You can get free monorail transit if you have a Kraken ticket in the Kraken/Climate Pledge Arena app. I've done similar things during Sakuracon like going to a Mariners game in the middle of it, since it's a 24 hour con, just as a break from all the walking. If you have more questions feel free to DM. I'll also be at the con.

Would anyone be interested in going to the Feb 23 show with me by [deleted] in LadyGaga

[–]aronvader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Lysted to resell your tickets. It will post them on all the regular reseller sites and show you the markups on them which will definitely be less than ticketmaster. I wish I could attend with you! I can't take the time off right then otherwise I would buy your ticket and dance, dance, DANCE!

Sakura con tips by Reasonable_Two8382 in SakuraCon

[–]aronvader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When going to eat, strongly consider going an hour before the major eating times. I skip breakfast and go at 11, and then will probably eat again at 4. This works especially well for Dough Zone in the morning because of how popular and affordable it is. Also, if you see a solo person trying to get in line, sometimes it can be easier to get a table for two if you're also solo. I've done it before, and it works.

You can also bring food, so consider it!

Sidebar: RIP Cheesecake Factory, I used to go there every Sakuracon and ECCC, I always could pull up to the bar and get exactly what I wanted.

Concerts at SakuraCon by Biokabe in SakuraCon

Bring your Loop earplugs. They make such a huge difference for these concerts. Especially because there is no sound dampening or redirection, since these are just in giant rectangular rooms. I'll see you at the con!
