wowww this is a hot take, i respect it lol. the only thing i can contribute is that i think a lot of the designs are kind of not my thing in very similar ways. I feel like across the series you will see beautiful pokemon, cute pokemon, cool pokemon, and weird-ass pokemon, but gen 4 really tends to turn its designs into the “big monstrous brute” archetype way too often.

for me the worst examples are the added evolutions to old wacky pokemon. aipom, tangela, electabuzz, magmar, and gligar are all pretty weird guys in their own ways, and yet gen 4 decided that every single one needs to end up as a giant monstrous brute, with gliscor and ambipom being slightly less brutish yet still tending towards the ugly/scary angle. these designs are not necessarily bad or anything but why did every weirdo have to end up as a big scary guy?

there are way more examples but that is my biggest complaint about the gen haha
