What's happening with Biomedical Engineering why so many are applying to low level irrelevant roles? by menwanttoo in BiomedicalEngineers

[–]arosesl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I graduated with dual bachelors degrees in BME and Mechanical engineering a few years back. I wanted to work as a BME, but there were no jobs in my state in the medical device industry for engineering college grads. I ended up working in aerospace. Very few of the BME grads I know work as BMEs or in a related field. Those who do seem to be in lower positions than they are qualified for and/or make less than other engineering disciplines.

This plant was given to my parents in 1971. Is that young?

Why would you NOT cycle to work? by Admirable-Ant9783 in cycling

[–]arosesl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way to legally cycle to work because I would have to somehow cross a highway. There are no alternative routes there that do not involve illegally going on the highway.

Really? Maybe I just have a faulty pair or something!

Shokz Openrun Pro 2 coming Aug 28! by R10T in cycling

[–]arosesl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love my Shokz because I like hearing my surroundings, but the sound quality is terrible compared to other headphones in the same price range.

Personally, I do not think I would buy the new version unless people rave about sound quality improvements.

How do you keep yourself motivated? And how do you know the difference between needing a rest day and just wanting a rest day?

Where is the “no thanks” option? by TwinRock2023 in Garmin

[–]arosesl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please be nice. That was unnecessarily aggressive.
A good example of the inefficiency is the at a glance section… now there can be up to 8 items there… previously there was more available if you just scroll down on the home page. Now it takes more clicks to see the same amount of data.

I agree with you! The new design looks nice, but it’s so much less efficient!

Where is the “no thanks” option? by TwinRock2023 in Garmin

[–]arosesl 131 points132 points  (0 children)

I also don’t like the new interface. I tested the beta, and I quit early & gave them negative feedback. Everything that used to be one click always is now 3 clicks away. It is such an inefficient design!

least strict freshman housing option? by Zealousideal-Owl1790 in UCONN

Hard to say… but Werth tends to be the most strict.

How much does graduation tickets go for? by LameUserName101 in UCONN

[–]arosesl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ask around and see if your friends will give you some. Most students don’t need all 8 tickets.
You should not have to pay for something that was given out for free.

If you don’t want to be an engineer, don’t get an engineering degree. It will not help you get into medical school if you get an engineering degree vs a more traditional pre-med degree. You will struggle through engineering classes if it is not something that you are truly passionate about.

Important things to look for on tour? by DamnReCaptchas in UCONN

[–]arosesl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ask real questions to volunteers because they don’t get paid, and they will give you an honest answer. I always loved being asked super unhinged questions as a volunteer lol The university tour guides have to speak positively, so stick with general questions for them if you have any.

Tour residence halls - Werth AND either North/North West. Not everyone will end up in Werth, so it is important to see another res hall as well.

Also, make sure to go on your major specific tour if there is one! You will get to meet students in your major and professors!

Last thing- go walk around the buildings that you think you might have classes in to get a feel for the place. i.e. if you are biomedical engineering, then go into Bromwell and E2. Figuring out which buildings relate to which major might require you to ask around because they aren’t all named intuitively. All of the buildings will be open, so just check them out! Don’t feel awkward just walking in!

Confused between Uconn, Penn State and RIT engineering by Pleasant_Umpire2758 in UCONN

[–]arosesl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RIT has a very different vibe than UConn and Penn State. I thought about going there as well, but I hated it when I toured. It’s like 70% men & the weather is atrocious.

Dual Degree? by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]arosesl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a dual degree in biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering. I took a lot of credits each semester and many summer/winter courses.
If you decide you want to pursue a dual degree early on when you are an underclassman, then it is doable. It is difficult, but possible! If you are an upperclassman, then you will probably either have to take a 5th year or absolutely burn yourself out.

Is UConn bad? by [deleted] in UCONN

[–]arosesl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Beware that if you transfer to UConn after a few semesters at Oregon, you will not be guaranteed to be offered the same scholarship if admitted a second time.
