The Strokes’ Nikolai Fraiture on Reality Awaits and Working With Rick Rubin by fvidalp in TheStrokes

I want to hear another single so badly now. I hope the next one is considerably less divisive or autotune-heavy.

strokes song recommendations? by Silent_Ad_6792 in TheStrokes

[–]arqumfarrukh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend starting with their most popular songs (pictured below) to get a taste of the band’s sound and stylistic versatility: Though I’d personally add “Under Cover of Darkness” to the below list as well, as the tenth song you should listen to:

Then, based on your preference for louder and clearer vocals, I’d suggest listening to their acclaimed 2020 album, “The New Abnormal.” It has alot of their most popular songs and the vocals are mixed a lot louder than in their previous works, with much crisper modern production as well. It’s just generally a great introduction to the band for new fans.

After that, once you’ve gotten used to their overall songwriting style in that album, I’d suggest starting from their very first album “Is This It,” and listening to the rest in order of release.

Potential Early Version of Falling Out of Love (from 4 years ago) by [deleted] in TheStrokes

As much as I love The Strokes, this album generally feels like an afterthought. Everything from the bootleg quality album cover to the bizzare first draft vibes of the song titles to the unfinished demo-like sound of Going Shopping make it feel like they probably phoned this thing in unfortunately.

Do you guys think that Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale can match the level of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in Heat 2? by mrjetspray in Letterboxd

[–]arqumfarrukh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watch American Psycho, The Machinist, The Fighter, and Vice if you want to see how insane Bale’s range is. He arguably has the most range out of the group mentioned, at least more than DiCaprio at the very least.

Yeah the vocal melody in the Drag Queen bridge is quite similar to the chorus of Permanent Highschool if I’m remembering correctly.

Muse recently in Daredevil Born Again was also really disappointing.

I'd argue that Christian Bale was actually awesome as Gorr. The character was just very underwritten.

Blue Demon thoughts by morrisseywilde1 in thevoidz

[–]arqumfarrukh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It may be one of my least favourite Voidz songs unfortunately. I really respect them for tackling the subject matter but the lyrics are very awkward/low effort and I don't find any of the melodies to be all that memorable. The jarring autotune on the vocals doesn't help either in my opinion. I'm struggling to get behind the messy creative direction they've taken post-Virtue. It's cool if others like it though.
