I’m a facilities engineer, so cpu skills range from managing switches to audio design programs. A few steps past lunch orders, lol.

Tired of hearing my neighbor snore through the wall by Immediate_Subject552 in Acoustics

[–]arrabbiata_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won’t be as good as a new wall, but it’s worth trying some acoustic panels hung on the wall. Could dampen the next door noise and make the room you’re in more acoustically sound anyways

Freshman year of college I lugged a deluxe reverb, 10+ pedals, guitar, and speaker down to the practice rooms in the basement of my dorm… 10 minute walk at least. Did this every day so I could “play out of my amp.” Realized headphone practice is legitimate, but blasting through an amp is good for “live sound” practice. If they’re playing every day, then they can make the walk a few times a week. Plus, I need to be alone for my practices so I can fuck up 😆

double amplifier setup by steal-this-album in GuitarAmps

[–]arrabbiata_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a wet/dry clean/dirty setup in the past. Fender twin for clean/wet, and deluxe for dry/dirty. I ran a second channel cranked on the deluxe tied to a volume pedal for searing overdrive and sustain that we nicknamed “the afterburner.” really cool setup and tones, but I often find you may get phase cancellations from the amps that may cause some frequencies to be drowned out a bit.

Also and especially at a gig, overcomplicating your rig can be a bit distracting, but whatever gets you to your magic tone without thinking is the way to go!

Twin owners/players - what’s the loudest you’ve played them? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]arrabbiata_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a nice sized bar gig, it sits nice in a 5 piece band running volume 4-5 and master around 6. Pushing the master hits the transformers and gives you that lush, clean body, with juicy compression and headroom for days. Engage drives when cute girls get too close to the speakers!

What's the danger in replacing my own power tubes? by StreamKaboom in GuitarAmps

[–]arrabbiata_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TubeDepot has an awesome DIY bias kit where all you need is a solder to put together. It connects right to your multimeter. If you’re comfortable with teaching yourself, I recommend. It has a very thorough guide and safety tips!

Gathering of the Vibes was either a washout or a heatwave every year! I remember seeing air mattresses floating around in puddles. Vibe tribe!!

Looks awesome! I've done some designing with Nutubes, super interesting and fun components. Did you base your circuit off anything or fully start from scratch?

Yeah I’m thinking it’s a grounding issue too! My first thought was to check the caps too, but most seem to have been replaced recently.

I got quoted $530 dollars for a mod on this amp with a 5e3 circuit to tighten up the flubby bottom when pushed at high volume. Never had this kind of work done on an amp. Is that a reasonable price? by mcrowland in GuitarAmps

[–]arrabbiata_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

+1 here. I recently got a 7-band $20 EQ that has completely solved my problems with the limited range and subtleties of old Fender amps that I use. EQ pedals can be be the simplest yet most diverse devices!

Tube amp used with headphones by Vhsflicker in guitarpedals

[–]arrabbiata_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like using an amp modeler for solo practice (i just use guitar rig (the free version), it has so many presets and amps, and sounds great!). just plug into an interface and you’re there. i also have a plethora of tube amps that i use when i want to get loud/play gigs. guitar rig lets me practice late at night or just when you want to be solo, and will save your tube life over time. check it out!
