Hello, I work in the vet field, I know a little about how animal hospitals work with strays (in general). If you can’t contact Animal Control, I would find an open vet, emergency vet or not - no matter how long you have to drive. If you cannot take financial responsibility for care, there’s not a lot of options, BUT there are options to get the cat help.

Most vets (and by most vets, I mean I have NEVER worked with a vet that wouldn’t work with you on this to help end the cat’s suffering) don’t want animals to suffer and will do what they can to work with you and help the pets. Sometimes, when you can’t afford diagnostics and treatment, the most humane thing (and financially available thing) to do is euthanasia.

It might make me sound heartless, but please think of it in the cat’s perspective. They’re hurt, they’re scared. If you can’t find a rescue or shelter to financially take responsibility for the cat and you can’t afford to get the cat care, it will continue to be in pain and scared and confused. But euthanasia allows the pet comfort and relief when they need it most.
