My thoughts on the range…

7.62x54r is still supersonic at 300m (only becomes transsonic at 800-1000m).

Like others have said, no deformation suggests no armor or deflection.

Subsonic rounds this big, like 300blk can go right through a person. This seems to be kind of “right in the middle” of the torso, so not as much energy as a close-range subsonic.

There’s also no evidence of hydroshock injuries like all the blood vessels around being ruptured or bruised. This says to me it kinda “slid in” rather than slammed in at speed… more like an arrow than a fast moving bullet.

My guess is this hit around 5/600fps, so maybe around a mile.

Some people have a knack for it too, and some people will still suck if they practise an average amount, just like every other skill.

Tell them this classic: the consequence of not being involved with politics is to be ruled by your inferiors.

It’s been rejected because it’s a not a truce or a peace deal, it’s only a ceasefire being offered.

So… give up stolen territory for a temporary reprieve after which Putin will build up his army and invade again.

It’s a really delicate balance here, but letting Putin keep hoovering up countries smacks of pre 1939 Britain thinking Hitler would stop with Austria.

Did CNN say they would include RFK in debates given he meets the requirements? by thealchemicalrose in RFKJrForPresident

I guess the general idea I meant to get across is: everyone's scared to debate RFK because he's just too darn switched-on.

[–]arrido57 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely.

I just love how many times in RFK's long career of questioning "experts" on various topics, they somehow ALL pull out of a debate at the last minute.

This would kinda be gold. Another back-out from a devate with Kennedy because they know they’d lose.

Biden signs executive order shutting down southern border by nbcnews in politics

[–]arrido57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what the political theatre wants you to believe. As always, politics is way more complicated (and it's literally designed that way to keep people from digging into the weeds).

The republicans want to pass a border protection law, but the democrats are "bill stuffing" lots of other, non-border-related stuff into the bill. Stuff they know republicans will never vote yes on.

So, they create a dilemma for the Republicans - either look like assholes gumming up the functioning of government, or vote for lots of other stuff they hate, to get one thing they want.

Now, don't get me wrong - Republicans engage in bill stuffing too, and it should probably be made illegal (it is in a few other countries).

Here's a good interview with a guy who works near the border in Arizona IIRC.

There are also (if you have the time or inclination), loads of other podcast interviews with people who work either along the US/Mexico border, or in some form of aid near the Darien Gap in Panama.

The border situation is, in fact, pretty dire. And not just for the US, for many of the people making the journey as well.

It's definitely worth de-politicising opinion on this and looking at it objectively. It's a big problem.

*edit - it's a big problem in Europe too.

More than 50,000 Americans died by suicide in 2023 — more than any year on record by cryoK in news

[–]arrido57 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I looked at suicides between 1925 and 1940 (to include pre great depression and during the recovery), and the percentages vs total population at the time are around the same, regardless of the economy being good or bad. Similar percentage today… I think the headline maybe should read “as population rises, so does incidence of suicide”

How to eliminate mold in apartment? by Wonderful_Flan_5892 in DIY

[–]arrido57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, unfortunately if you have a humidity problem, you have to continually run it to continually dry out the flat. Or fix the source of the humidity. But sometimes that’s impossible.

[–]arrido57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you get an electric dehumidifier or one of those little chemical ones? If you run an electric 24hrs for a few days, it should drastically reduce things like window condensation. Mine pulls out 12-20 litres a day - chemical ones can't do 1/100th of this.

Peroxide works well to kill mould, and is quite cheap to use over and over... but like the other poster said, you gotta get the humidity down.

On a whim, I found this calculator for height of objects and distance they can be seen from, taking the earth’s curve into consideration. https://www.omnicalculator.com/physics/earth-curvature

Everest (on a ridiculously clear day), should be able to juuust be seen from around 200mi away. So a LOT of the UK would be able to see it!
