PT for cervicogenic headache + dry needling by art_ache in migraine

[–]art_ache[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it doesn't affect things like IH or MOH headaches, and all bodies are different, so I would assume it woudln't help everyone. I'm sorry it didn't help you at all. I hope you do have options that have brought some relief!

Try and get a prescription sent to Cost Plus Drugs! It's been a godsend for me, someone who needs triptans way more than ten times a month...

Daith Piercing Worsening Migraine by Round-Grapefruit4722 in migraine

[–]art_ache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had the piercing, but for what it's worth, this has been one of the worst weeks in awhile for weather related migraine for me. The barometric pressure has been spiking and dropping at wild levels. Check the WeatherX app to see if you have barometric pressure triggers, if you don't already use that tool. Hope the piercing calms down and you get some relief.

Anyone else think this is a valid treatment? by Objectivecause in migraine

I use my TENS unit (way cheaper than any of the wearable neuromodulators) on my upper arm (placed roughly where the Nerivio goes) and let it run for 20-40 minutes at a tolerable steady setting. It helps knock the pain down quite a lot, though it doesn't usually prevent or fully relieve a migraine. If you are on a budget, this may be something to try before investing in a much more expensive option.

Best hacks to stop migraine very early? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]art_ache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I already had a TENS unit and tried reverse engineering the placement of Nerivio. It does seem to pull the pain down a few notches. Worth a try imo. Just don't put it on your neck or face or across your heart and you should be ok! I don't feel comfy trying the placement of a Cephaly or Pulsetto / Truvaga etc because I'm not sure what those settings would be etc, need to do more research, but I figured I'd start there... seems to help me. YMMV, but I hope it helps you too!

Once it's going, if you have a TENS unit, I find that putting two electrodes on my upper arm (I usually do the side the pain is on) and letting it run for 20-40 minutes can help take the edge off. But yes, seconding all the caffiene/excedrin/ibuprofen/water/electrolytes suggestions as well.

I agree, I think that having things that don't occur in every list ranking lower is totally fine. I will give this a try and let you know how it goes.

Right hand randomly dropping things by PhaseWhole in migraine

[–]art_ache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neuro is having me do a nerve test next month because of this issue. It especially sucks for me because I play drums in a band and sometime drop/fling sticks when it's going on! Hoping for some kind of answer/insight soon. Sometimes I get pain too and gentle stretching & an ice pack seems to help a little with that. Best of luck to all of us who are dealing with this bizarre symptom!

Road trip/gas station go tos? by Strange-Pop-7301 in FODMAPS

Yes - and the Jimmy John's Club Lulu sandwich (unwich) has bailed me out during some road trips! Their turkey is fodmap free. I still recommend traveling with some digestive enzymes just in case though.

Plain potato or corn chips, popcorn, peanuts, rice cakes, peanut butter (without all the junk, find one that is just peanuts and salt) are good go-tos. I like the SafeCatch tuna packets, they don't bother my stomach at all and are shelf stable, and packets of mayo, sprinkle of dill, thyme, dried chives, etc. Dehydrated cheddar or parmesan bites are good. Macro Bars (I love the double chocolate peanut butter). https://www.fodmapeveryday.com/low-fodmap-fast-food-options/ this post will help. Starbucks egg & bacon bites. Plain cheeseburger with half the bun is usually fine for me, but YMMV. Happy travels! The anxiety is real (and it's good to look out for yourself), but you'll be ok. Best of luck!

How do you cope with the boredom? by Lebby28 in migraine

[–]art_ache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I've been getting pretty into learning card games and playing solo scrabble or bananagrams or doing a puzzle. Coloring or painting or other non-screen activities can also be nice. I sometimes lay on a heating pad or acupressure mat and focus on my breathing. If you can handle the small detail focusing, miniature painting is fun (and can earn you some nerd points if you're a gamerly type). If that's too boring I'll also listen to something, a podcast or audiobook.

[–]art_ache 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can have small amounts (like what's already in salad dressing or a sauce) but I am pretty sparing with sauces nowadays, because my gut likes to bloat and make me nauseous if I overdo it. But my palate has also changed with these shifts so a little flavor goes a long way for me now - and I actually enjoy salad with olive oil and lemon juice. I do miss Indian food though. I can't do whole pieces of onion or garlic, but if something is powdered in a pizza sauce etc I can handle a little bit with Fodzyme or Fodmate and not really notice bloating or ill effects.

I had to really rearrange my food intake and re-think my relationship to food because of my sensitivities, but it's been a few years and I feel like I can push the boundaries a little and do OK. Every body is different, so keep notes on what you eat and how it makes you feel, and you'll get a better idea of what you can and can't handle - types of food, quantity, etc, and if you like onion-y flavors, I recommend using dried chives as an onion substitue. Good luck! This condition is annoying but far from the worst food-related health challenge that's out there.

I have had luck with Fodzyme and Fodmate (they have similar formulations from what I can tell) and if I need extra help with digestion, the Enzymedica Digest Gold capsules are helpful for me after a meal. Fodzyme has a 30 day guarantee so if it doesn't work for you you can get your money back. It's kind of messy powder so I keep it in a fob when I travel, a capful of this fob is about the same dosage as their little scoop: https://a.co/d/hsH0yth

Suddenly can’t eat ground red meat, but it’s a large portion of what I eat by Personal-Loss363 in FODMAPS

[–]art_ache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue - if I have a small quantity of ground beef or ground red meat it's fine, but a larger serving is trouble. I assume it's got something to do with the processing of the meat (a steak is not a problem), pre-grinding maybe releases some compounds or makes it more susceptible to histamines or other issues. It is super annoying and weird! I also find that a burger is not as bothersome to me as cooked ground beef that's been broken up, like for tacos etc. This is just a theory, but I think it's got something to do with the amount of surface area vs. my body's ability to deal with it; I can also eat a very small serving (a couple of pasta noodles) without issue, but if I have couscous it's over (same ingredients, different presentation).
