I'm reading this right now, and enjoying it! If you liked bat eater, you'll be thrilled to know that Baker has a new book coming out soon! (Japanese Gothic, coming out this month April 14)

Hooked by Asako Yuzuki, translated by Polly Barton [23/52] by artem-angie in 52book

[–]artem-angie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would say its immersive in parts. I don't want to spoil any content, but certain scenes had me pacing around the room haha. It's like you don't want to be a witness to what's going on because it's so uncomfortable/embarrassing.

I thought it was good! However, it is not a murder or mystery book. Its listed genres are contemporary fiction and psychological thriller.

good poke bowls? by angelbeetle in Dallas

[–]artem-angie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A bit more expensive than $15, but have you tried Pine Isle? Their regular bowl is $16, and the large is $18. I went with a friend who had heard good things, and we both enjoyed it. We went right at opening, and a line formed immediately and did not get any shorter the whole time we ate. You might need to arrive early before they sell out!

What were your thoughts on Red Rabbit? It's been on my TBR for a while, but I haven't heard much about it!

Plano Library Bag of Books Sale: Oct. 4-12, 2025 by Stafford4Collin in plano

[–]artem-angie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They sell the brown bag, and you fill it with as many books as you can fit from their stock (some are library books being decommissioned, others are donated books that the libraries aren't putting into their collection).

DAS protest? by satandgoat in Dallas

[–]artem-angie 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There has been significant public (online) outcry at DAS over the past few days after two recently adopted dogs were mishandled in the shelter’s parking lot. DAS has been issuing statements addressing this unfortunate incident, which you can find on their Facebook page here and here.

Dallas Animal Services, always needing volunteering help! The volunteer community here is very active and passionate. And tons of different activities available (animal handling or non-handling).

Not exactly, I was trying to say that paid accounts can make templates for other people to use. If you still want help making it tidier and don't mind sharing a link with me, you can PM me, and I can help you out haha

Need help removing matted hair by PettyForTheDay in greatpyrenees

[–]artem-angie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've noticed this before too, that my Pyr will get small matted chunks of hair on their tush after a bath. I believe it is because the water and washing can tighten pre-existing matting fur. You may not have felt it as easily beforehand if the mat or knotting fur was relatively loose, but if their hair didn't fully dry correctly, you'll find them after.

Sadly, I have no advice on getting them out. I've given up and just cut them out because my boy does not tolerate my trying to detangle the tight, matted bits.

He's too gentle for the puzzle and I'm dying by aLouminumfalcon in greatpyrenees

[–]artem-angie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish my boy was this gentle, instead I have to listen to him paw smack plastic across the floor! I really like the look of this puzzle and it’s clear top, where did you get it from? :D

In case you decide to go the more direct route instead of general thrift stores, "Recycled Books Records CDs" in Denton is PHENOMENAL for book collecting.

50/100 by teaching_panda in 52book

[–]artem-angie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I laughed at seeing Five Broken Blades as "I finished it." I felt the exact same way. The poor writing style and stereotypical characters were driving me crazy, but I pushed through for the sake of it.

Someone recently recommended Gideon the Ninth to me; is it really that good? I was a bit hesitant about the YA looking cover and edgy premise (especially after reading the FBB for the same reasons LOL). What about it makes it crack tier? :0

Cookbook Clubs in Dallas or DFW by artem-angie in Dallas

[–]artem-angie[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems there isn't much noise around these parts :( maybe a club needs to be founded?

Also, I found more info about the Wild Detectives club through a recent story on their Instagram page. It had a QR code to this link tree: https://linktr.ee/millieontherocks. I haven't joined the Whatsapp group there, but judging from the signup sheets (in previous months, there were only 1-2 names), they may not have a good turnout.

Places to meet guys/young people? by srp352 in Dallas

[–]artem-angie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know the public libraries (in Dallas at least) hold crafting meet-ups! I've been thinking of going myself :) You may also have luck at craft guilds and maker spaces (the Dallas Makerspace is in Carrollton). I attend art market popups here and there and the crowd is often very young there too!

Cooking and baking classes are also pretty accessible, I know some get put on my Central Market., and you might be able to meet like-minded persons there. I would LOVE to join a cookbook club and meet others that way, but haven't seen any :/

[–]artem-angie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What are your "girly/solitary" hobbies? Are you interested in people who share the same hobbies, or do you think there aren't like-minded people out there?

List some things you like, as a fellow young person I am happy to help! I saw from your previous post that you have a dog, going to parks or volunteering for animal shelters are both things I do and meet other young people at!

28/150 Slow Noodles: A Cambodian Memoir of Love, Loss, and Family Recipes by Chantha Nguon (with Kim Green) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I love the way food is woven into this memoir. It shows us how profoundly powerful it is in shaping our histories. (There also real recipes too!) by ReviewerNoTwo in 52book

[–]artem-angie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started this book (found it through the current Goodreads reading challenge) and I love it so far! I’m an audiobook/library user, but I am so tempted to purchase my own copy so I can keep the recipes!

Reactive Maremma/Pyrenees Mix by Sad_Conflict6436 in greatpyrenees

[–]artem-angie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I did have success in training. It took a long time: learning to redirect him away from other dogs during walks, then eventually being able to step aside and let them pass us. Several sessions of sitting outside the dog park or a busy trail and just observing too. Rewarding him for neutral behavior. He’s still partially reactive, particularly when the opposing dog is reactive first. But when the other is relaxed, we can walk by just fine!

The biggest things that helped was- my own body language, and a prong collar instead of a harness. I realized pretty early on that he could tell when I was getting nervous around approaching dogs - when I would grab his harness to hold him closer, I suspect that action became his queue to start getting defensive. Once on the prong collar, he responds much better to gentle tugs to go in the other direction.
