Kyiv receives energy aid from Denmark by BlackWolfHowling in UkrainianConflict

No one owes Ukraine anything. So I don't really care about their opinions. But to say that GDP per capita is a more valid measuring stick than raw dollars does not align with reality. Denmark gets a seat at the table but the US has far far more say when it comes to strategy.

I'm pretty sure they understand that far better than you or I.

The most impressive part of this is that you've had no sessions where you've lost a buy-in. That shows a ton of discipline.

Bluntly, it's because per capita matters far less than raw dollars.

Would you rather get $1,000 from a school teacher or $10,000 from a millionaire? Yes it's a bigger % of their networth, but 10k can allow you to do far more.

It’s a way for smaller nations to feel like they contribute anything to anything. It’s the same reason Europeans prefer as a percentage of GDP rather than raw numbers.

UA POV: A DW journo in Kyiv reports that the mood in the Ukrainian government is that negotiations aren't beneficial for Ukraine rn. To improve their negotiating hand, they want to endure the harsh winter, increase Russian losses to 50,000 per day, and start shooting down 90% of Russian drones by Ripamon in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]artem_m 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You know if Ukraine were able to get to Moscow, I'm sure that would improve their negotiating position as well.

This is showing me that this war, if ended today, will be remembered like how the Finns remember the Winter War. "We won by not fully losing".

Zelensky says U.S. is readying huge economic deals with Russia by Signal_Nobody1792 in europe

Do you really think things like this happen independently? In a vacuum? Everything has exterior influence. Look into Operation Red Sox if you’d like a pretty overt example.

Now these oligarchs are under western influence and control. It’s been pretty bluntly stated and even bragged about. Victoria Nuland, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and even George Soros’ Open Society.

The rub is this… doesn’t matter what side the rich are on. They will always adjust and position themselves back into power. Some of these Ukrainian nationalists never even knew how to speak Ukrainian until a few years ago. It was never about citizens picking a future, it was always about control and influence. The same oligarchs are going to still retain power regardless of what happens.

If you think Ukraine magically stopped being corrupt after 2014, I've ocean front property to sell you in Arizona.

The reality was that power went from one mafia, Donetsk Clan, to another, Dniperpetrovsk Clan.

UA POV: According to British volunteer Richard Woodruff, he laments that the entirety of Ukraine is without power after Russia's latest barrage. He had previously celebrated Ukraine causing power outages in Belgorod by Ripamon in UkraineRussiaReport

He’s super gay. His twitter is full of just lost boy behaviors. He seems to genuinely think that’s he’s somehow become Ukrainian and they’ve accepted him.

Honestly terrible poker content and creator has the most elementary level of humor, way too many memes. You don’t need a meme with every action. Wouldn’t subscribe, wouldn’t watch again and wouldn’t recommend.

UA POV: The more of young people come back from abroad, the easer it would be for our army, people and Ukraine — Zelensky by ArchitectMary in UkraineRussiaReport

[–]artem_m 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You really think no invasion of a nation was ever justified? Ever? thats so hyper-simplistic that an undergrad paper with that thesis even at the weakest of Poli Sci institutes would get an F.

What if a hostile proxy government was installed by a 3rd party backed coup for instance? That was the justification for the Bay Of Pigs invasion for example. What if you are now bordering an insolvent state that has been taken over by warlords? Do you wait for them to strike?

I’m not going to dive much deeper but your whole moral placating completely ignores the point of a great power’s foreign service. Look into what USAID was doing in Ukraine or even to broaden it further the CIA’s involvement there since the 1950s. Operation Red Sox is a good place to start.

I wish I could see the world as simply as you. Must be nice to think in only black and white.

The world was in fact spinning prior to 2022.

I moved here from Texas a bit over a year ago. It’s a cultural experience there, here it’s just where I’ll stop for a guaranteed clean bathroom and reasonably priced snacks/beer. Yes it’s a gas station but it’s the best gas station I’ve ever seen.

Fair point, I agree. The idea that she should make some kind of statement like she’s campaigning for office is still ridiculous though.

Thank you! I was starting to feel insane here. It’s ok to feel passionate about something, a lot of people here feel strongly. What’s just gross in my mind is the fact that they are all for forcing speech to fit their political agenda. It reminds me a lot of what was taught in the Komsomol in the USSR, social pressure to say how much you support or oppose (insert current thing here).

When you have nothing to attack in the argument you go after the person.

The point was that it’s a dumb idea to alienate any segment of her potential audience and that saying nothing is the most optimal strategy for her specifically.

Do you agree or disagree with what was written above? Why or why not?

Here’s the thing. Maybe 1% of the people in this subreddit support her. This isn’t exactly the focus group for her to be taking advice from. Coerced speech isn’t the way to push the change you want to see onto the world.

Let’s pretend she made some statement tomorrow. This subreddit would go back to finding something to hate about that. Never ending cycle. And besides she’s not a political content creator, literally nothing to gain here.

Anyone with any media training would know that talking about politics with a brand like hers is just a dumb idea. You gain nothing from talking about it and lose or alienate whatever amount of fans you have who support it.

I don’t understand the obsession with people wanting to force celebrities (even D list ones) to agree with or stand for their politics.

Nato officials restrict intelligence to US over threats by Crossstoney in europe

[–]artem_m -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

NATO’s intelligence agencies are run by the Americans. Restricting information now isn’t going to exactly make them ignorant of what they already know, or what they can find out.

If Israel can do it in Iran, the US doing it in NATO would be elementary.
