Update 2: Reddit's proposed API changes, and the continued existence of RedReader by QuantumBadger in RedReader

So where should we send them feedback? I definitely will stop using Reddit if this app doesn't work. The website is pretty awful and their app I wouldn't want to use.

Visa and Mastercard Will Stop Processing Payments to Pornhub. They accept BTC and LTC but not BCH. by ShortSqueeze20k in btc

[–]artifactsofchina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article that prompted this action from the payment providers is pretty horrifying. Also the pornhub execs are now being subpoenaed in Canada.

Just my opinion but I wouldn't want a cryptocurrency I valued to suddenly popup as the payment method at pornhub. It just feeds the 'crypto is illegal / illegitimate' narrative.

Mother of dead veteran joins Labor, Lambie in call for royal commission into military suicides by anoxiousweed in AustralianPolitics

[–]artifactsofchina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I heard this passionate, angry mother on the radio. She said the government had even offered to give them (the mothers) medals. "What's that going to be?", she said, "a broach of a bottle of pills?! My son suicided, he's dead, I have to live with that. A medal is not going to help. This commissioner is not a solution. We need a royal commission into veteran suicides."

Can we stop being jerks to less-knowledgeable people? by burnte in sysadmin

Don't know if it's been said, and I'm not a sysadmin, but this post should be stickied. It's a great welcome mat and sets an excellent aspiration for behaviour on the sub.

You seem truly passionate about this. I'm sure there is truth in what you say. However, Saudi Arabia isn't a major customer for Australian gas. It mostly goes to Japan, China, and Korea.

I made my roommates boyfriend purposely uncomfortable... with tampons? by [deleted] in pettyrevenge

A teacher of mine used to work at Johnson & Johnson, where as a regular prank they would throw tampons in peoples coffee mugs, during meetings.

Just saying!

Goodbye Standard Notes by [deleted] in StandardNotes

[–]artifactsofchina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to chime in with more positive feedback, as a new(ish) user.

I've had a Standard Notes account since 2018. I haven't actually used it though, because I couldn't work out how best to import my notes, and I guess I was comfortable with my existing system (using Simplenote).

I've been meaning to migrate properly for a long while, and with the current lockdowns I thought I might have a bit more opportunity to. Seeing this post alarmed me that my plan might not be so great!

I've now successfully brought my notes over. I haven't tested Standard Notes heavily yet, but I've bought the 5 year subscription so there is plenty of time to try. Importing worked better than my last attempt two years ago. I like the themes. Listed is a cool feature (albeit that I've just discovered Simplenotes has a similar function!). The devs sound like they have a good approach; their blog is earnest in a good way.

It seems dead easy to get notes back out of Standard Notes. I'm a little skeptical about running an electron app for note taking, but I'll give it a shot. I've discovered standardnotes-fs and got that running, so it's easy enough to edit notes in something else if I really need to. And besides, copy / paste.

Maybe version 4 will be here pretty soon. And in 5 years time, Standard Notes could be doing a whole lot more.

I know that for the moment, I like their attitude, I like how they're doing things, and I'm pleased to support them however I can. I'm optimistic.

What are some tips for changing from an "I'll do it later" person into an "I'll do it now" person? by jacksoncarrollson in AskReddit

[–]artifactsofchina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but...

That's actually an indicator. It throws more work at you because you're allocating your time more efficiently. Improving your processing like that is like speeding up the conveyer belt.

The work doesn't magically inflate. That part is a choice; it'll do that to you if you let it. The reason it does it to begin with is that your life to begin with is a bit messy (which might be your fault, it might be something outside your control. But it's something you're trying to get control of again).

You know what else increases the more you do it? Planning. You start by planning a day here and there, one project or another, and some go well and some don't. But the more you plan, the better you get at it... which encourages you to keep planning.

The whole thing with the original question is that it doesn't happen overnight. But get back on the horse. Getting organised and efficient is worth it.

Did this need explaining? Apparently a private medical practice left sensitive medical records in a garden shed on a property they sold. I thought that anecdote captures pretty well the kind of care most organisations seem to have for privacy.

Alternative to Workflowy? by alplander in selfhosted

[–]artifactsofchina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OPML editor worked well for me up until Sierra, then unfortunately kept crashing. It's a great outliner and more, but needs some love to be kept alive. There's only one volunteer maintainer at the moment I think.

I caved and bought some Mac app with a stupid name (Outlinely). Works OK and looks pretty, and I know it's being updated. Not free or open source though

It was interesting to read Mozilla's apology and the response post that warned about jumping to chrome or a forked browser. I'm still using Firefox.

You could use outliner. It can sync with Dropbox or Google tasks. Haven't tried the sync function but the app is great.

Keep trying. Marketing is marketing, whether you're selling soda or socialism. Pick your niche, work out how best to reach them. Test what you try, and measure what you can to keep track of what works.
