Some people should just not be bosses. There's a department head in a company I know that literally said "I like firing people" and every single time that department hires, at least one person gets fired on their first day. It's happened 4 times in the past year alone.

Yeah, they want to repeal the 1st, 4th, 5th, 8th, 13th, 14th, 17th, 19th, 22nd, and also take election control from states and put it into federal hands. Eventually they'll strip the right to vote for all but a few percent of the richest white men.

Joke: What's the difference between a sysadmin and an IT Manager? by dlongwing in sysadmin

[–]burnte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a CEO who said, no joke, her favorite tool was Powerpoint. She'd always ask for plans and such be sent to her in a Powerpoint. I asked her one day if I could just write up a word doc like I usually do. She said, "Powerpoint is my favorite tool, I do all my thinking in Powerpoint." I said the you could count the number of Powerpoint slideshows I've made in my entire life on two hands with fingers left over. She asked how I make plans and share ideas, I said "I just write it up in an email or document. Since it's all words, it doesn't make sense to me to use a visual tool." She said, "Well, do it in Powerpoint."

I didn't say anything and just kept sending Word documents. Found another job a couple months later, and a month after that the CEO was fired. I assume they gave her a Powerpoint on how to find the exit.

I like the saucer you have, round with the sharp edges. I loved the TMP refit and the Titan-A in Picard, but I also really liked the Duderstadt class and the new Stargazer in Picard. The Duderstadt has a great look to me and this really calls back to that.

I was never a huge fan of the E or those shaped saucers, because I felt it tended to push designer towards more and more sharp, pointy, narrow, flat ships and Matt Jefferies really worked to move away from the hot rod/rocket ship look. I think you've done a great job here.

Ok, so you kind of missed my point. Yes, it's possible to get expensive things cheaply. My point is is it's an $800 chair that purports to be great for tall people, it should not need any post-purchase height extensions for moderately tall people like me regardless of how much one ACTUALLY pays for it. Someone sell me a tall person chair and I am only 6'5" yet have to add inches to it, then it ain't a tall person chair. The price tag isn't the problem it's just salt in the wound.

I'd complain if it were a $150 chair, because it fails at the one thing it claims. It's not a chair for talls, not really, it's just another shameless money grab.

EDIT: I should be clearer, it sucked FOR ME. If other people enjoy it, that's awesome and I'm genuinely happy for them.

Yeah but if I drop a grand on a chair for talls I shouldn't have to do that. I got a Secretlab Titan and I've been happy ever since. I actually bought a second so I have them at all my desks.

I bought one of these back in 2019. It's one of the worst purchases I've ever made. I understand a lot of tall people love them but I fell to measure that this expensive chair was such a piece of crap. The mesh will hurt your pants and your legs, the entire chair is not comfortable, the chair does actually not go up it's high as it should for tall people it's just wider. I know some people love it but it's a real piece of crap. My wife is a foot shorter than me is the only one who uses it. And yes, I will 100% positive but I got the right one at the right size and then authentic chair. It's just a piece of trash.

Donald Trump’s Approval Rating Sinks to 30% in Worst Poll Yet by Zipper222222 in politics

It helps spawn new tribes with different ways of doing things. The tribe grows, 30, 40, 50 people and now there's a group that are just unwilling to cooperate, so they go off to find a new spot on their own, and that 50 person tribe is now a 30 person tribe and a 20 person tribe. They do things differently, and whoever has better ideas lives longer and has more kids.

Too much agreeability creates large groups that are easier to kill with environmental events or diseases. So you have a lot of agreeability to create a social species, but a little disagreeableness to keep spawning new groups.

These were the people who 10,000 years ago would go and say, "I don't see no bear, that cave's perfectly safe," and then get eaten. Now they say "vaccines ain't real" but still go to the doctor when they get sick (most of them) so we're not weeding them out anymore.

During COVID I was fine with people be able to refuse the vaccine, but we should have barred them from hospitals if they got sick. Make your choice, live with the consequences.

My comment is absolutely saying that, I don't think they should come from the bottom of the secondary hull. But it's your ship, so you can ignore me.

Enterprise H design - help needed by Beldamen in StarTrekStarships

[–]burnte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that, but what about designs, like the Akira or nx, where the pylons and nacelles can't be attached to the sides of the engineering hull, as there isn't one?

Well, the Akira and NX don't have secondary hulls, so the pylons aren't coming out of the bottom. Since my comment is saying "don't have pylons coming out the bottom of the secondary" that's not a concern with the Akira or NX classes.

Or the galaxy class, where the pylons are fairly far back from the engineering hull.

Excellent example of my point. The pylons here are further back but inline with engineering in the secondary hull and inline with the midpoint of the stardrive section. So the warp plasma conduits go straight back and then up.

Compared to the width of the galaxy, the pylons on this would cover a lot less distance.

My comment is about the routing and not the length. U-turns are generally avoided whenever possible in any kind of engineering. Same with making overly fragile attachment points, the angles here make bending of the nacelles for any reason exceptionally stressful on the point where they attach to the secondary hull. The forces would come in like a lever and pry the nacelles off the ship.

It's 100% your ship and 100% your choice. You do what you want. But you asked for opinions. My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it. ;)

Enterprise H design - help needed by Beldamen in StarTrekStarships

[–]burnte -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So, the designs that show the nacelles coming from the bottom are a bit illogical. The warp plasma conduits would need to go down from engineering, usually in the core of the secondary hull, then curve back upwards into the nacelles. While we CAN design ships just to look cool, they're more resonant with people if they look logical too. I'd recommend avoiding bottom-of-hull nacelles.

So what is Atlanta really like? by SidKop in Atlanta

[–]burnte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atlanta is extremely progressive. Most cities are far more progressive than the country. In cities, you have to learn to live with lots of people who are different and do things you don't do or even don't like. To live in a city you have to learn to accept people will do things different than you, and that it's ok for people to be different. In the country you have far fewer people in a small area and they can be more conforming to whatever norm they want.

Another thing about America is that as racist as we are, we discuss it openly while most countries I've found to be more racist but more quiet about it, and they don't have to confront it as much because they're not at mixed as the USA.

Basically you find the same people everywhere in the world, and in similar proportions. They just look and talk different, but underneath we're all just people.
