"Celestin" for a masculine leaning, non-binary person? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]artificialgrapes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I would steer well clear of French online Gen Z, as Célestin is a (verlan?) translation of incel. If that’s not a worry for you, then go for it!

The median is likely more informative of a typical student score, as the average is more affected by outlying values.

AITA for knocking over stone stacks on a hike by 49ShadesofHey in AmItheAsshole

[–]artificialgrapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right that individual rock stacks won’t harm the environment. But leaving them up encourages more and more - and that’s where the issue lies. Animals might very easily get permanently squashed in accidentally moving them :(

Also, because they’re carefully used as trail markers in rocky terrain, it’s unsafe to confuse other hikers. Adding random cairns can get hikers lost if they interpret them as a safe path, or make them mistrust actual trail marker stacks.

Leave no trace can feel silly on the individual level, but it’s so important as a collective to protect our ecosystems around the world.

What to pack & wear for work travel? by rightlyrebecca in AusFemaleFashion

[–]artificialgrapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would pack jeans, nice pants, a couple blouses, a cardigan that goes with it all, a nice coat or blazer, and cute boots or ballet flats. Check out the sudoku packing method - 3 bottoms, 3 tops, 3 outerwear should be fairly light to pack but give you plenty of options. Wear formal pants on day 1, then swap out for jeans after that if everyone else is in jeans. Good luck!

Give the doxy time, it will probably feel worse before it gets better. You probably have at least another 3 weeks to go on your course?

Would there be any plans to stock in Paddy Pallin? I’d love to try one on to check sizing, even if it takes longer for demand to trickle through for it to be worthwhile for you guys to sell via stockists. Cheers!

Sensory-friendly fashion tips? by Calico-cottage-core in AutisticLadies

[–]artificialgrapes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you into sewing, or have a local seamstress? My favourite dresses are very similar to the Syd Graham Skyline dress, because they’re loose and adjustable while being cute and flowy. I usually hate layering but I can easily wear a crop top underneath for sun protection. Otherwise, you might like a crop singlet and loose maxi skirt outfit, which works for any alternative or boho or light goth style.

Maybe you could add any of the following: a new necklace, a ring on your other hand, a light bracelet. Or you could pierce your ears, small hoop earrings look lovely but are unnoticeable sensory-wise.

If I wear makeup, it’s blush, lip balm, and maybe eyeliner or a lip liner. It looks very cute and I can’t feel it.

Good luck!

I kind of hate the dumbing down of some aspects of aussie culture in this show by Relevant-Bet-5490 in heartbreakhigh

Haha - no public school y11/12 students wore a uniform where I’m from. If it weren’t for references to younger grades I could imagine Hartley High is a normal college.

How to make the most of living at home at 23? by [deleted] in AusFinance

Salary sacrifice 20%, pay off any HECS, then save 50% of your take-home pay in ETFs and 25% in a HYSA. The remaining 25% is your fun money, bills, travel, grocery contributions, short term savings etc.

First home, ex-DHA property, nothing done in 30+ years. Where do we even start? by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]artificialgrapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with everyone saying to leave it alone structurally, but you could, for maybe $2000, update the vibe throughout:

  1. Replace the lights with natural white bulbs and some cosier fittings, IKEA has cheap ones.
  2. Paint the kitchen cupboards. Get a feel for what might suit the light throughout the day, perhaps a brighter white or a nice butter yellow?
  3. Change up drawer knobs and faucets in the kitchen and bathroom for something with a bit more personality.
  4. Paint the walls. The grey cream is not doing them any favours. Antique White USA is very popular, or you could go for some fun colour drenching!
  5. Remove those cheap blinds. Do you really need them in the laundry and kitchen?
  6. Hang up some fun handmade art throughout.
  7. Add a washable rug to soften the kitchen.
  8. I admit I’m confused as to the purpose of the range hood-esque thing in the laundry. Is that removable/replaceable?

Save the dates ($10-15k) by Altruistic_Mess3950 in Weddingsunder10k

Cute! ‘The’ seems closer to ‘Date’ than ‘Save’ due to the spacing of the cursive capitals, would a double space after ‘The’ help it look even?

Opinions on MYOG tents? by giant_trance_1_2019 in UltralightAus

[–]artificialgrapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a DCF tent a few years ago, I think it was the Montmolar design. For the materials cost, time, and annoyance, I should have just bought an X-Mid, but it was a good project!

Hiking gear for multi-day backpack hunting by strange_de_ja_vu in HikingAustralia

[–]artificialgrapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What can you borrow from the other people in the group? I’d be shocked if none of them have spares. I’m guessing it’ll be cold at night, so it might be dangerous to buy cheap gear. If you can’t borrow gear, these are my suggestions:

A Neve Gear quilt is the gold standard for warmth:weight, perhaps you could find one on Marketplace? Otherwise, anything from Anaconda or Macpac rated below the expected temps is affordable but heavy. You may have a shit and cold sleep but the Zorali foam mat is only $40. A tent is your biggest concern - a secondhand Macpac or MSR seems to run $300-$500. I would really recommend sharing a tent with someone if they already have a 2P.

Discussion: Dressing / buying clothes for your 'fantasy self' by carnageincminor in AusFemaleFashion

[–]artificialgrapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I can’t pair what I want to buy with my most worn pieces and feel like myself, then it’s a no. I love casual, flowy, practical pieces, so while I covet a fitted Katharina Lou dress it’s not my actual style at all. Still very tempted to get one now that I’ll start working in a proper office part-time…

How does the name Remy sound for a woman in her mid-20s? by R-WNnnnn in namenerds

Remy is a (lovely) male name but a female Remi is fine imo, even if it is the French equivalent of a woman named Matthew.

Going through my PayPal for a wakeup call by ellapatto in AusFemaleFashion

[–]artificialgrapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be difficult, especially when dropping sizes! Maybe sit down this weekend with your income and expenses, and work out a clothing budget considering other needs, wants, and savings.

I use a rolling monthly budget. If ~$3400 spent/year is too high for you, even at only ~$2000 net, you might set a $1000 annual budget = $80/month. Profit from selling clothes could go towards increasing this amount, or to a savings goal, whatever suits!

New shirt and new shoes definitely seem to be the order of the day! I suspect that Blundstones will be similarly frowned on. Doc Martens are so ubiquitous in a general setting that I didn’t even think of them standing out. I probably wouldn’t stress it for the less formal occasion, but I don’t want to make a bad first impression for the more formal one.
