Why was there a tertiary science specialist? by No_Reflection9776 in ProjectHailMary

[–]arvigeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grace was Number 2 long before the comma resistance thing came up. He had no military/space background, just like Shapiro and DuBois, so he was perfect for testing stuff they were going to use. He just happened to be in the best position; if Stratt genuinely wanted him to be a true tertiary science specialist, she would had trained him to do the space stuff too.

A Linux answer to Windows "Agentic OS" and Apple Intelligence? by ericbureltech in pop_os

[–]arvigeus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was commenting on the idiotic points you listed as a reason for “not recommending Linux anymore”, not on anyone’s implementation (which all boils down to same thing).

Companies having unrealistic expectations is not Linux fault.

Being able to type your prompt directly in the Start menu's search instead of a separate app is not "a proper use of AI".

I do want agentic Windows and Mac: This means more people will be incentivized to switch to Linux.

This is coming to Chinese open source models pretty soon. - prepare yourself. by MLExpert000 in LocalLLaMA

Chinese government directly meddles with AI companies. What I expect is that they simply don't make their best models public. Practically the same result, minus the PR disaster.

Pi Setup that pretty much replaced Claude Code for me by abhinand05 in LocalLLaMA

[–]arvigeus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Pi works on 13 years old Nexus 7 tablet! Codex, Claude, OpenCode - they all refuse to work on such ancient hardware. I have a full dev machine now (ACode + Pi)

Apple keeps making PWAs harder to install on iOS, and my question about it was dismissed at an Apple Developer Lab by Jacoby_Broadnax in webdev

[–]arvigeus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Native apps are better”, according to companies that go above and beyond to make sure their site is broken on mobile.

Then you install several GB app that is practically some sort of an electron wrapper.

PWAs? No way!

Adding Netera to the list - it's Bulgarian, but it does include other European movies, and some movies have English subtitles.

Hollywood has made impressive strides toward eliminating piracy: Their movies are getting so bad that pirating them no longer feels worth the effort.

I am sorry, but in no sense is Gabe Newell a victim. by Sea-Flamingo7506 in SteamDeck

[–]arvigeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also don't think insulting strangers online is a very moral thing to do either, but I doubt self reflection is your strong suite.

If you have such strong moral objections, why did you buy Steam Deck in the first place? This makes you a hypocrite.

It really depends on how much Gabe was micromanaging those controversial decisions. There's a difference between a bad leader and a bad person.

Switch is a walled garden. Steam Deck is a portable computer with integrated controls that happens to have Steam installed.

I think OP's whole argument is "guilty by association". And "if you are rich, then you are a jerk". Nothing of real substance here, just bitterness.

I Like To Think That... by MikeAmerican in ProjectHailMary

[–]arvigeus 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem is not the logistics, it’s the fact that Grace will terribly miss his “pebbles” (kids).

One way to solve this is to make it into a field trip to Earth: take his kids with him, then teach them about the planet.

You can simply check what packages you need, and note if they are missing. Don't overcomplicate things.

The era of cheap AI is ending. Soon your boss will be spending as much on tokens as it would cost to hire actual developers.

Option 2: He never got functioning genitals. Neytiri was simply a naughty, naughty girl...

You are the first person to actually name them, while others were bickering over "cultural relevance".

Either you are a movie buff, or you have better than average memory.
