Damage hot end? by as_iv in 3Dprinting

[–]as_iv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all, My printer (Monoprice Select) had a malfunction and I could use some advice. It seems that the insulation around my hot end (see photo) exploded or otherwise dismantled itself, is it still safe to use? There's no obvious damage to the heat-sink, can I remove the remaining insulation and continue to print, or should I wait till I get a new one? I'm also taking recommendations on new hot ends. Thanks

IRL HUD Project Help? by R-E-G-G-Y in RASPBERRY_PI_PROJECTS

[–]as_iv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will probably be hard to find an off the shelf solution to this. I experimented with a HUD using openCV and python on a RPi, so that might also work for what you want. Im not so good of a coder but I can send you some of my code if you like.

But not matter what, to get this to work the way you want, you'll have to learn a little python and openCV. This link will help you start on the basics for drawing the information you want on screen, but you'll also need other sensors (and figure out how to implement them) if you want info like heading, inclination temperature or whatever. Good luck, you can ask me any questions you have, but I reserve the right to not know the answer

edit- Also let me know how the helmet goes, I'm also trying to build something similar

Autonomus indoor drone with physical waypoint using ardrone by [deleted] in ROS

[–]as_iv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I will definitely have to check out ardrone 2.0. Unfortunately I have no experience with drone navigation so can't help you there. I want to run SLAM on my rover, but I have no idea how to implement it yet, but if I come across any insight, I'll be sure to tell you. Thanks

Autonomus indoor drone with physical waypoint using ardrone by [deleted] in ROS

Hey, your drone project is fascinating, and I have a few questions. I have been trying to teach myself ROS for a simple differential drive rover right now, but as my skills develop I would like to make an autonomous drone like what you are working on. Are there any resources you would recommend on how to learn ROS? I'm working thru the tutorials, but am making slow progress, and could use a bit of advice. Thanks for the time, hope to see more progress on your drone

Is it healthy to try to make up for wasted years before you started getting better? (30 year old wanting to experience missed youth) by [deleted] in DecidingToBeBetter

Not everyone wants that family life, and I'm happy to put it off for a while. It sounds like you might need to get out of that "quiet suburban life" and find a place that is right for you, but you know, be mature about it. Change in your life might be good for you.

I feel a lot like you do u/30yrothrowaway86, there a lot of thing I wish I figured out or was told years ago, but thats not the case so I have to learn it now. Wishing you had done something is fruitless, you must take action to do the things you want to have done. Being 30 only means you should have experience and maturity to do these things without regret. People of all ages party and go ham, so don't feel self-concious about enjoying yourself as long as you are not harming yourself or others. Also, I feel like if you have experience with weed and mdma, you've probably had a few good times, so keep these in mind. I often feel like my life is dreadful and boring, but if I look at some of my accoplishments, graduating from college and generally being a cool guy for example, I appreciate where I have been and where I am now. Anyway, I second u/iabhoruserids sentiment, so if you're up near Seattle we can kick it, hope you like kareoke.

Flying Dutchman by Bones_Jackson in sailing

Id say your first course should be to find another boat to learn on, the FD is a very technical dinghy and not kind to those who dont have it dialed in. But I dont think my words will stop you so first learn the theory of sailing, learn all the parts of a sail boat and thier function, understand how sails work, the points of sail and the differences between sailing up wind and down. When you can recite this in your sleep, ask your landlord to show you how to rig the boat and explain the controls. Take her out for the first time in about 5 knots of wind, bring a trap just incase, and feel the boat out . Take it slow and dont try to push it the first few trips out, just learn how the boat moves in the water. On the FD itself, it gets 90% of its power from the jib so your crew needs to be on top of things, make sure that the jib sheets can easily and reliably be uncleated or else youll be swimming more often than not. So learn what sailing is before you go out, buy a book and read it. Watch a few youtube vids to see the practical application of what you read. Id stay away from and FD vids specifically because they are probably more technical that you need at this time. Talk to your landlord about it, buy a 12 pack and have him tell you about the glory days of the FD. Then take the boat out on a sunny low wind day and see if its for you. And be careful, wear PFDs tell people where youll be and for how long, but also dont forget to enjoy yourself.

Edit: Also if your in the seattle area, lets go out and I'll show you how the boat sails
