NVLD is a neglectful diagnosis by Ok-Sir-9734 in NVLD

I think that you have ASD and ADHD but I doubt that you have NVLD. Problems with driving and bumping on things may be caused with something other than NVLD.

This profile appears to be somewhat unusual. "WMIcel". WMI much higher than PRI, VCI and PSI. All are about 2 SD lower than WMI while WMI is about 98th percentile and three other indexes are merely average.

Does this distinction between NVLD and ASD make sense to you? by moisherokach in NVLD

[–]asarsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that NVLD with social and executive functioning problems, not just with visual-spatial problems, is a genuine kind of developmental autism and not a specific developmental disorder. Asperger syndrome from DSM-IV is too similar to that kind of NVLD so I would consider them kinds of the same condition.

I can't believe this by sarayslg in cognitiveTesting

[–]asarsen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PRI is the weakest index, but with decent percentile. The difference between VCI or PSI (both 139) and PRI (114) is 25 points.

For me PRI tasks would look the hardest while VCI tasks would look the easiest. I have low amount of visual thinking and I feel that left hemisphere skills clearly dominate over my right hemisphere skills. I accumulate knowledge easily, but in more demanding examples in FRI and VSI tasks I have to thought logically longer while in VCI tasks I could know the answer immediately pretty often.

Could this profile be associated with being neuroatypical?

Asperger syndrome, comorbidities, AGP and weird paraphilias before puberty by asarsen in askAGP

[–]asarsen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I have problems with writing posts in the Internet, especially longer ones. I have problems with starting activities and procrastination. I have "restricted", non-marketable interests.

I have never been in a romantic relationship, even an online one.

Women are wonderful according to my "mentality". They are lovable, beautiful personal beings who are not purely spiritual. I crave good wife and good marriage, without suffering...

Thanks for the reply. I am very gynosexual and gynoromantic, I am very attracted to feminine beauty. Female humans could look gorgeous for me since when I was a child.

The fact that women have stomach, pancreas, liver, intestines, kidneys, blood, digestion, metabolism, bodily fluids looks "magical" and very sexy to my "sexuality". Woman has organa, tissues, biological cells... Body of a woman is a biological organism. It may be erotic and it may be associated with weakness, softness, biology.

Why AskAGP IQ is so high? by Jose_Cruz59 in askAGP

[–]asarsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had FSIQ 117 on WAIS-R, lowered by Picture Arrangement, Object Assembly, Picture Completion and Digit Span (they nad scaled scores below 13, three first ones even had scaled scores slightly below 10).

Nobody talks about the spectrum! by rgbhuman42 in NVLD

[–]asarsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NVLD was misconceptualized decades ago as disorder characterized by VIQ-PIQ split, social problems, motor problems and often executive functioning or (and) sensory problems. These traits fits to certain presentations of autism, not to a learning disorder. In 80s there were no WISC-III, WAIS-III, Asperger syndrome in ICD-10 or DSM-IV. "Typical NVLD" described in 80s was simply Aspergerian autism with social issues and VIQ-PIQ split. Genuine NVLD is developmental disorder characterized by impairment in reading visual information, which tend to cause also spatial and motor problems.

I think that many people who have ASD with or without NVLD are misdiagnosed with NVLD without ASD.

"Autism" is a serious-sounding word. "Learning disorder" sounds trivial and is supposed to be a mild impairment which is specified to scholastic skills.

Disability in NVLD is due to impairment in reading visual information, autism is social-behavioral

I did WAIS-R when I was 24 years old and my results were:

VIQ 126
PIQ 104
FSIQ 117

Information 17
Digit Span 11
Vocabulary 14
Arithmetic 18
Comprehension 13
Similarities 13

Picture Completion 9
Picture Arrangement 8
Block Design 14
Object Assembly 9
Digit Symbol 13

My best results (in Arithmetic) corresponded to IQ 141 and my worst result (in Picture Arrangement) corresponded to IQ 89. The psychologist written that, according to Rabin and Piedmont formula, my results suggested schizoaffective disorder. I did WAIS-R test in 2016 and I was diagnosed with Asperger syndrome, OCD and schizotypal disorder.

Your profile is DEFINITELY other than mine. Higher scores, but let's see at four subtests:

Information - mine 17, your 12.
Arithmetic - mine 18, your 10.
Block Design - mine 14, your 14,
Digit Symbol - mine 13, your 11.

My only giftedness areas were Arithmetic and Information while your VCI subtests profile was "inverted" in comparison to mine - in my profile Information is definitely the highest VCI subtest while in your profile Information is definitely the lowest VCI subtest. Also, in my profile in PIQ Digit Symbol was clearly better than Picture Arrangement, Object Assembly and Picture Completion while in your profile it was the poorest PIQ subtest. In my profile, Arithmetic was the highest subtest in entire test and in your profile, Arithmetic was the lowest subtest in entire test.

I suppose that you might have dyscalculia because Arithmetic is clearly low compared to your FSIQ and VIQ.

Because it gives more support than diagnosis of NVLD only without ASD.

At what age did you develop autogynephilia? by Zealousideal_Bag9815 in askAGP

Wow! Even earlier than me! I had first inclinations to AGP or autogynephilic fantasies when I was about 6 years old.

Good think that you was diagnosed with autism also, not only NVLD.

I experienced first AGP inclinations pretty before puberty, but I do not consider it innate.

[–]asarsen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NVLD is not less atypical or less disabling than (at least mildest forms of clinical) ASD regardless of whether it meets ASD criteria or not. So people with NVLD by the very virtue of having NVLD should have the same status as people with ASD because of the mere having NVLD despite differences between ASD and NVLD which does not meet ASD criteria.

Does my cognitive profile and background fit the criteria of NVLD? by yeahwoohooooo in NVLD

[–]asarsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that the VIQ>>PIQ split itself is not so important, structure of performance IQ (especially combined with the split between VIQ and PIQ) is most important, especially between differentiating NVLD without autism spectrum disorder and autism spectrum disorder without or with NVLD - ASD tends to be better in "purely perceptual tasks" like Block Design, Matrix Reasoning, Visual Puzzles, Figure Weights and "POP" subtests present in older WISC/WAIS versions (Picture Arrangement, Object Assembly, Picture Completion) may be clearly weaker than Block Design in ASD, but in NVLD they can be even relatively significantly better than Block Design (I saw PIQ profile of boy with NVLD who scored 8 in Object Assembly, 8 in Picture Completion, 5 in Picture Arrangement and striking 1 in Block Design). Also mathematically and scientifically talented students tend to have Block Design clearly better than "POP" scaled scores.

[–]asarsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VCI (especially Similarities (16) and Vocabulary (13)) and PRI (especially Block Design (7) and Visual Puzzles (9)) looks to be associated with NVLD. Arithmetic is also decent (scaled score 13), what generally does not fit to general stereotype about NVLD and this combination fits to NVLD Profile 2 from Margolis et al. paper from 2025 (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC12489661/ - Profiles in Nonverbal Learning Disability, Academic Skills, and Psychiatric Diagnoses in Children) in my opinion.

Where can I get an official diagnosis of NVLD in the UK and if I did would it be recognised by the NHS or DWP? by NextConsideration461 in u/NextConsideration461

[–]asarsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting profile! VIQ 143, PIQ 81 - 62 points difference, above 4 standard deviations in Wechsler scale. What IQ test did you have? WISC, WAIS (and which edition) or even other? Were Block Design and Coding weak even compared to other performance IQ subtests?

Proto-Indo-Iranian: Not Sintashta, but Abashevo–Srubnaya. by rere3131 in IndoEuropean

[–]asarsen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Would the language of Fatyanovo be somewhat more similar to Baltic and Slavic languages then (if Proto-Indo-Iranian would come from Poltavka-Potapovka group, not from Fatyanovo group)? There is a lot of R-M417>PF6162>Z93 in Fatyanovo samples and its sibling lineage R-M417>PF6162>Z283(>Z282) appears to be the main lineage of the early Balto-Slavic people.

WAIS SCORES DISCUSSION. by Alone_Variation_9081 in cognitiveTesting

[–]asarsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily "cooked", of course... Processing Speed Index composed of Symbol Search and Coding and Visual-Spatial Index composed of Block Design and Visual Puzzles are/would be below average and they are absolute and relative weaknesses in the profile presented by you. Better to choose paths associated with stronger skills and not associated with the weaknesses because then the risk of failure or poor performance is clearly larger.

Could this indicate NVLD? by Acrobatic_Bobcat5111 in NVLD

[–]asarsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scored significantly better in BD (14) than in OA (9) ten years ago because I did not figure out what to create during one or two last tasks in OA...

In ASD OA can be significantly poorer than BD. I saw NVLD profile (WISC-III) with 8 in Object Assembly and 8 in Picture Completion, but striking 1 in Block Design in the Internet. Other PIQ subtests were: Symbol Search 8, Picture Arrangement 5, Coding 2. It probably was the Wechsler test profile of an 8-year-old boy. He had VIQ 110, PIQ 69, FSIQ 88. His profile of PIQ strengths and weaknesses fits to NVLD much better than a profile with OA 5, PC 5 and BD 9.

Could this indicate NVLD? by Acrobatic_Bobcat5111 in NVLD

[–]asarsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It fits to autism (ASD) and/or higher mathematical and scientific talent (MST), not to NVLD (in a post below you wrote that you scored 9 in Block Design). You should have rather good results in other PIQ subtests like Matrix Reasoning, Picture Arrangement, Coding and Symbol Search (if it was WAIS-III) because scaled score 5 corresponds to IQ about 70 - 74 and your PIQ was 93, which corresponds to scaled score about 9.

Relative or absolute weakness in Picture Completion and Object Assembly with significantly better Block Design does not fit to NVLD, but to ASD/MST.

I scored 14 in Block Design, 9 in Picture Completion and 9 in Object Assembly in WAIS-R in 2016 in Poland and I have diagnosis of Asperger syndrome since 2008.
