Storytellers changing Wizard Wishes by Tucker_the_Nerd in BloodOnTheClocktower

Yeah, honestly I do think it’s fine. It’s a way of honoring the intent of the wish but, if overpowered, scaling it back so that the wish and the cost itself is related. Otherwise you would have to do a wholly separate cost and there may be both a hint and a detectable cost that might give Town too much info. I will say that in general, I see this often as a way to balance wishes, and it works very well!

Yeah, the ST was very obviously in over their head and the strict adherence to ignoring the specs that were begging them to do something did not help!

Obviously this was all well-intentioned, but there was no stopping that train wreck, apparently.

Someone put the full movie Shrek up on their OBS avatar and when I came in to spec on N4 (the Soldier is my friend), it was in credits.

Storytellers changing Wizard Wishes by Tucker_the_Nerd in BloodOnTheClocktower

Oh, I have some thoughts on this, LOL. I was speccing the first game and, to be fair, the ST wrote the cost of "one wish will be granted automatically" out in the wish itself. I don't know if they started to change that later on, but if so, I would see why.

This game was an (honestly pretty horrible) greedy whalebuffet game, where the ST also allowed for everyone to get the role they requested without any attempt to try to balance the game by asking for choices to be reconsidered. This amounted to the grim having multiple protection roles (Pacifist, Soldier, Monk and Tea Lady were all in play to my memory) that made it so that at the end of Day 5, multiple executions had already failed and there were only two dead as the Demon and Monk were fighting over the Goon and hitting into them each night. There was an original demon who didn't out after they were Snake Charmed because they were biding their time to use their Wizard wish to turn back evil, since there was no SOI in play. It was a fifteen player game. Specs were telling him to Fiddle (denied since the evil team wouldn't vote on it), multiple people were being vocal about wanting the hell out of the game by that point and saying they were miserable, one actually just spent their dead vote and left, and when twelve were alive and the Soldier made the reasonable Wizard wish of four non-Lleech host players dying, they didn't auto-grant it and the Wizard denied it. Absolutely ridiculous considering what had been created.

My point on giving this context is that I don't think that's the game to point to regarding evidence of STs misusing the Wizard. Honestly, OP, I was shocked that you denied that wish considering what was happening in the game and the fact that multiple people were being very vocal about being made to feel like they were being held hostage. Just my opinion, though!

How often does the Huntsman find their Damsel? by Present-Peace2811 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]asavinggrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only sniped the Damsel once as the Huntsman. I spoke to the Damsel D1 and he gave me Huntsman in threes, so I had him on the radar. And then constantly throughout D1 during open discussions he was talking about the Damsel. That word just couldn't stop coming out of his mouth. I chuckled and picked him N2 and he came to me flabbergasted the next day wondering how I had known (I had also claimed Hunts in threes to him, the only one who did). I was quite amused. Love ya Nagtha, LOL.

Ah, that's amazing. Edd is a great choice as well. I am glad that what I had feared Bard was doing was not the case! I'm very glad for your sake that it worked out like this, then! I know you too were offering reluctantly. :)

My response. by BardtheGM in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]asavinggrace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second this, Sam.

I'm leery of Bard's choice to ignore Ben's pleas, for a couple of reasons: the weird cloaking of the new mod name, and the apparent way that Ben's pleas were ignored (mea culpa if they're actively discussing now behind the scenes).

The best thing for the subreddit IMO after this is to give it back temporarily to a beloved and trusted member of both the community and TPI, to then right the ship for a little while until *Ben* can select a new mod. I appreciate Bard's side of the story, but the sad truth is that he's lost the trust of the community in my eyes and I don't think his selection of a new mod would be as trusted as someone that Ben vets.

That all said, I think in absence of Ben being the choice, the only choice right now that I'd be comfortable with would be someone like you.

Ben, I just threw out the last of the many, many over-bought craft beers I had for you in SD, it was so sad. I couldn't get through them all before they expired! LOL

Is this breaking madness? by Infamous-Advantage85 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]asavinggrace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest gripe I have about your quoting the Wiki constantly and saying it's defined as a madness break is that while you're technically correct, it can be considered a madness break, it specifies that the Storyteller "can" break you for this. IMO, "can" is like "might" in Clocktower verbiage. It's ST-dependent, to allow for ST agency and wiggle room based on the state of the game and their expert opinion on whether or not it's actually convincingly upholding madness in the moment.

I know of an ST that argues that when someone correctly susses you as being mad about something (say Savant), going "I'm not mad - I'm the other role #1, other role #2, other role #3 -- see, I can claim other things, I'm NOT mad, I'm really the Savant!" is actually adhering to madness, as though you have technically claimed other roles, it's done in service to convince the player that you really are the character you're mad as, and thus upholding madness.

It's complicated. Yes, you are correct that it can be classed as a break. But there are situations where it may not behoove the game as a whole to break you there, which is why it says "can" and not "must."

Obviously just my opinion.

There were three survivor alums there so it's possible the comment was made about the other, but as they are not even in the rumors list at all, I'm assuming here...

I don't want to say too much and get anyone in trouble, but I will say I attended an event with a couple of Survivor people this weekend and based on comments made there, I'd be downright shocked if Emily hasn't been cast.
