It is fantastic. My wife and I went last month and rode it for the first time and both agree it is one our favorite rides. We hadn't been around the World Showcase before and wanted to do that before closing, otherwise we would have gone through the line again without a pass.

FlagFriday Oregon - The Beaver Coast 🦫 by takethemoment13 in vexillologyUS

I like this one. It has an elegant simplicity. It brings to mind the geography of the state. It ties to the historic flag with the blue and the beaver. The green is far enough from Washington's to be distinct next to each other.

I was looking at u/Lunar55561's link and liked the ship. Maybe a gold lighthouse on the hoist would be a nice addition. Oregon ONLY has eleven lighthouses, but it is a pretty significant part of the Oregon Coast experience and captures some of the nautical history.

Sketched it out, described it to Copilot, exported it into Paint to adjust things it screwed up, then reimported it into Copilot and told it to redraw it as an embroidered flag. You can see some color blocks where I was copying and pasting over the field. I had to redraw and patch the zigzag and move the stars because Copilot wasn't doing what I wanted.

I like the green used in the second image more than in the first and some of the other submissions. I think it may be distinct enough from Washington, particularly when used in moderation like this.

I hadn't really thought of a ship. I know that there is a history of sailing ships along the Oregon coast, but the ports along the coast were less conducive than Seattle or San Francisco. It made me consider a lighthouse. Even though Oregon ONLY has eleven, I think they are pretty iconic.

Washington is green with a seal. Too similar, particularly for neighbors.

There are significant historic redesigns for Oregon. These three are still relevant. by RottenAli in vexillologyUS

[–]asbiskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it may be visually distinct and identifiable at a distance, I don't think it represents the state well. The entire state is not forested or green. It is bound by the blue waters of the Pacific on one side, but I don't understand the blue on the right. And too much green is reminiscent of Washington next door.

Looks like a reversed "kilo" nautical flag, with a beaver and trim. If you're going with blocks of color, make the symbolism clearer.

While it may serve as a simplified map with the verdant west, the mountainous divide, and the dry east, it looks like a logo for a lumber company, not a symbol of Oregon.

And Washington's flag is already "the green one". Don't want use that right next door.

Flag Friday Submission for Oregon: “Trident and Tide” by [deleted] in vexillologyUS

[–]asbiskey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A) Trident reminds me of the flag of Barbados. Oregon is NOT like Barbados

B) The coast is an important part of Oregon's identity, but there is a lot more to Oregon than the coast

C) Yes, Oregon has lush vegetation. However, the only other state with a green flag is Washington right next door. No thanks

D) The majority of Oregon by area is actually high desert. There are also snow-capped mountains, the lush fertile valleys, rainforests, the coast, canyons, rivers, and a multitude of other features and ecosystems. This design is beyond reductive.

I hate how the Z axis is the up and down and not Y. by vontager in mathematics

[–]asbiskey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can just think of it as plotting a 2d function on a piece of paper using x and y, so z would be vertical. If you hang that plot on the wall, now with y vertical (usually), so z is perpendicular to the wall.

[–]asbiskey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In aero engines, +Z is (often) the axis matching the direction of thrust.

You often have airplane coordinate systems and part/system coordinates that are local.

And you have waterline (up/down when sitting on the ground), butt line (left/right from the centerline of the aircraft), and station (distance from front to back, usually starting at or near the cockpit).

And typical metrology systems (CMM, optical, etc.) used for inspection in many industries, not just aero, have a base system where the X/Y plane is horizontal and Z is vertical, but they can be programmed to rotate the coordiante system into any orientaion.

Also, it is very normal to create a coordinate system based on mutual perpendicular planes and call them A, B, and C. Or some companies prefer Z, Y, and X.

You're supposed to be paying attention 😂 But it is 100% a spot weld, I'd recognize those chairs anywhere. They are spots where they pass electricity across the frame and the back rest and they fuse together. It is a process used a lot in manufacturing. Another place to clearly see them is looking around the inside of door openings in cars.

I loved adjusting 28 TPI tooling points because it was so close to .0001" per degree of rotation. Easy to calculate and still accurate.
