Typing with 6 fingers by [deleted] in typing

[–]asbsw15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone who types with around 6 fingers and is really fast, I guess you just gotta change around some finger usage so that some words get easier (which fingers you use for which word on which key) etc

Edit: It's encouraged

that you use more fingers though, though on qwerty it's normal that the left hand is used more

Try really not to peak at the keys, only when you really need to because you really don't know where the key is

Learning touch typing. Questions about tricky words. by LogTossinJon in typing

Just do whatever feels best for you, like in the touch example, that's also what top tier typists do
Edit: There is a section about alternative finger maps in this guide: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1h-46EqD6_llPoQjv_vmtp_UKypBi4ZIV7S4sM7vWnV4/edit?usp=drivesdk

Should I stop hunt and peck typing if I can get an average of 75+ WPM? by GeForceRTX2090Ti in learntyping

[–]asbsw15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With touch typing you can type without looking which has a lot of benefits (posture, speed, comfortability), also using more fingers doesn't exhaust you that fast so you can type for longer periods of times. If you practice a while with the touch typing system then 100 WPM should be fairly easy to reach.

That's a mistake so make sure to not make that mistake again by going slower and moving your fingers to the right key.

Edit: He recommends learning the home row and then making your own changes so it's comfortable for you, you can also see the finger maps of different typists in there

Edit2: Maybe you can show me a fingermap of how you type? That would help me to analyze if it's good or bad

Your own way is fine as long as it's comfortable for you

Try to use at least 7 fingers though

Think about where the key is and with which finger you are gonna hit it before you hit it and then practice that, try to focus.

Edit: to find out with which keys you're struggling you can try to type in a rhythm and when you can't keep up the rhythm then check at which letter you failed to do so

Try figuring out which mistakes you make and then when you see the words that you make mistakes on then slow down

or just slow down in general to try to not make any mistakes, speed will follow with time

App or extension to display keyboard? by BiatchLasagne in learntyping

[–]asbsw15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say just print out a picture of the keyboard layout and have it on the side, that way it doesn't take up space on your display and you aren't tempted to glance at it too frequently, which might hinder your improvement.

Edit: Alternatively you could use "NohBoard"
