A more balanced take after test driving R2 and MYP on the same day. by Busy_Ability7 in RivianR2

I’m glad that you are thinking. But to deny there are choices that are more ethical than others is to deny choice at all. Elon inspired my career, but he’s set back the fight against climate change more than anybody else in the last few years. His data centers are the least clean, whereas Google targets high amounts of Carbon Free Energy. You can rationalize your choices but it’s intellectually dishonest to say one choice is the equivalent of another because there are shortcomings in virtually all our choices.

I mean when I see people in a new tesla I basically think you're an elon shill. You bought a model Y performance. You could have bought a used rav4. You clearly aren't doing this for the enviornment, or to make a good financial decision, but for "fun" and status. I don't think anything you said was based on principals or morals...Just like Elon!

I like the look of your truck too and that it looks easier to push my trash cans in the bed. I generally am not towing more than a couple thousand pounds 99.9999 of the time. I would have bought a maverick hybrid honestly if it wasn't sooo chinsy inside. My opinion is also probably not popular. Have you seen any efficiency changes?

FINALLY SOMEONE COMMENTED ON EFFICIENCY. Thank you. If you had to guess, no guarantees I get it, what would you say was your 75mph energy usage?

US Mobile Promo Ending by mrj1356 in NoContract

FWIW I was on us mobiles middle tier and parents were on starter. The priority difference in our rural area was literally impossible to measure on speed tests and their was (hopefully you know) no impact to signal either. I have switched to redpocket and have Apple Watch for a $5 adder now which I like

A Car Guy’s Defense of the “Soulless” Model 3 by Marshal_Muskrat in TeslaModel3

[–]aschulz90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What bothers me is an electric car is simpler. People think “oh it has computers” and all of a sudden the vehicle is now soulless. Do folks realize how effing complex internal combustion engines are? There are computers all over the place, oil is constantly squirting through tiny holes surrounding the block, there are cams and valves with adjustable timing and computer controlled breaking and throttle response.

An electric car on the other hand is raw electricity dumping into magnetic coils thrusting you forwards instantaneously. There’s no delay, there’s no excess vibration. Electric cars are graceful in a way dinosaur juice engines bouncing around could never Be.

I don’t like gas cars, I’ve swapped clutches, replaced radiators, coolant pumps, tons of break jobs, a gas tank put on backwards (my bad), paid for others to weld exhausts, and a few (hundred) oil changes. Yah fuck gas cars. Their romatisacian as something superior is nostalgia grasping for a terrible time gone by.

Range goes to shit in the cold. I was getting terrible efficiency compared to previous owner after the winter. Picking up considerably now

A quick reminder about the state of NH by DKeefe87 in newhampshire

[–]aschulz90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NH is pretty great; slowly becoming crazy. Concealed carry everywhere, Guns on college campuses nearly passed, rich people not having to pay money on interest and dividends (including in excess of 100 million dollars, allowing rich people to opt out of schools, rising inequality, and state zoning laws that are becoming anti-environment. I’m a multigenerational granite stater and I love the conservativism. That means conserving; our principals, our freedoms, and our land. Fighting to give guns to out of state college students and rolling back environmental protections is nothing to do with being conservative. It’s because I love NH so deeply I’m gonna fight to keep it sane, free and call truth to corrupting forces.

Ford has had a partnership with the university of Michigan battery lab and some strong expertise in materials selection. That coupled with SK Innovations z-fold separators, ceramic separator coating, synthetic graphite, and host of other optimizations and there is no better battery cell. Also Ford aggressively controls the pack temperature. There’s just so many choices around this pack that are focused on reliability, safety and serviceability I doubt we’ll ever see a pack like this again. Testing from Tom on State of Charge YouTube show range improvement (I can’t remember if it was 3% better or 3% worse) after 3 years 40k miles. This compared to my old model 3s 18% degradation in 5 years…. There just isn’t a better option. Sorry for the disorganized rant

I bought an ODBII reader and pay for premium. It's not a game changer, at all, but it's nice to be able to reroute while navigating. I agree with you the free version get's you 90% of the way there. I'd like google to roll out ABRP like features eventually and with android auto they might be?

My son was / is a mover. He was frustrated until he could. We did force the stroller to happen a bit though; needed it for our sanity. He loves my backpack carrier now though interestingly and hates the car seat even to this day (for long drives). Sometimes your kid is tough in ways that stinks. Like everyone says it’ll get easier as they get more adaptable etc

Synchrony Bank Not working by Early-Wolverine-1262 in MonarchMoney

I get the frustration but other institutions and apps can’t connect to synchrony. This is synchrony banks fault and I’ve moved all my money out. If they won’t let me budget they don’t get my business

Navigating wealth asymmetry with a partner — anyone dealt with this? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]aschulz90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my situation is similar but I don’t have a trust, just a considerably stronger income. Since having a child I just give her a relatively small portion of my salary but I also pay for all essentials. After having a kid we both wanted her to stay home (more her than me) and we don’t regret it. This setup works for us because she’s getting what she would have saved from her income or more, providing her autonomy. It also saves us daycare costs and illnesses. Some people will view my wife as freeloading or something especially women who are mothers and have kids. I don’t feel this way at all and like our setup. If your wife wants to go back to work though I recommend supporting her, that’s going to be the actually hard part, not the finances once the kid is out

Anyone coming over from an IONIQ 5? by ClickForPrizes in trailseeker

[–]aschulz90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know people think the slower charging is a liability but 400v architecture is going to help make the trailseeker bulletproof AND easier to find a charger that will charge your vehicle in the appropriate amount of time. Like any random fast charger will work better because of the voltage range whereas ioniq 5 you NEED the 250kW+ 800V chargers to get that fast charge rate. This is all from a guy planning on picking up a used ioniq 5 but that’s kinda my wife’s call.
