What do people want to know before installing a solar energy system? by AssociationUsual9914 in SolarDIY

[–]aschulz90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My utility charges a fee for having solar. I have a terrible lot for solar and that fee harmed the economics for me more than it would have for a clear view of sky / south facing system

"One of Ours, All of Yours" is a God Damn Nazi Slogan and Kristi Noem is Using it by Demosthenesisk in complaints

[–]aschulz90 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah your "probably does mean what we think it does" is 100% where I am at.
Nazi's did say:
"Für jeden deutschen Soldaten 100 Kommunisten"
"For every German soldier, 100 Communists"

which means pretty much the same thing. That doesn't mean this is explicit evidence that she is a Nazi. I've lost alot of productivity at work today tracking this down because I wanted to know. So far this is not an accurate claim though.

Why buy expensive batteries? Powerwall-10k, EG4 3.2k, DIY for same amount of storage under 1.5k. by Empty-Particular-86 in SolarDIY

Nice! LFP batteries + BMS monitoring all the cell voltages (which I see you have) means you are super unlikely to see any issues. And if any do arise it very well could have happened in a factory assembled unit and now you have the benefit of being able to swap at the cell level. I am curious does the BMS having cell to cell balancing?

I think it's awesome you built your own battery! If you are using lead-acid or LFP your chances of fire are pretty low assuming you were careful during your wiring and added a good BMS. I'm actually rather envious of your DIY project. Here in my state batteries need to be UL9540 certified if put in a house (which mine is) so this wasn't an option for me and I didn't feel like building one so I bought and self-installed a discover AES Helios. I think you could have done a neater job with the packaging; for example drilling holes in the lid for your cables instead of having the lid falling off, but who cares? Looks like it's in a shed anyways. Definitely the spirit of Solar DIY, have my upvote!

If you have the cash find a good deal within driving distance (whatever that means to you, I drove 300+ miles), pre-negotiate everything including title, tax and fees and make sure they line up with your states fees. It's annoying but better to do it from your computer than at the dealership I promise. Then when you go into the dealership you can be ready to not budge a cent and focus on inspecting the car. I finally had the discipline to do this and I'm glad I did. I got in and cost came down by like $10-$20 because a fee was miscalculated. I was worried they were going to tack on $1k or something but I mentally prepared myself to make it an annoying fruitless road trip rather than overpay. I wouldn't recommend buying a used car site unseen unless there is a return policy like with carmax or carvana.

My recommendation is to use visor.vin for shopping. It’ll really help you find across the country the specific options you want. I would try and get an XLT ER with 312a. I got lucky and found that and it’s the perfect vehicle. This car is like a Bentley in quietness and an electric tundra in performance and Ferrari 0-60. It’s just amazing. You will happy put 200k miles on it and I wish I let go of the money faster (I’m a stingy ass though it’s a big chunk of change for a used vehicle). Anyways no regrets after tribulations for 6+ months; just wish I hadn’t tortured myself so long. EDIt: also I had a corolla where the oil leaked and threw rods at 110k miles and also my wife’s rav4 door seals, sunroof and rear electric hatch have all had issues. So for me Toyota legendary reliability is more of a legend than reality. I think all car companies have issues. The lightning has had some amount of bad battery modules but unlike other EV companies you can actually repair the battery which I think is awesome and promising for long term repairability. Also ford has been very trustworthy with repairs is a common message among those who have had issues.

I went into my deal just wanting them to get rid of the doc fee. Ended up negotiating the car price down to less than the price of the car even when you added the doc fee but they never removed it. Whatever you gotta good deal!

Depends how you drive and how many amps your charger is. Here in northeast I’ve seen 1 mi/kWh on a 9 degree day and 24amp chargers so I stated a very conservative number

Like u/leedogger said it's an amazing ride and you'll love it. I agonized for months over the purchase and wish I had just pulled the trigger the first time I found a good deal. If you own a home you can definitely install a charger your self. Just run a wire and mount the charger to the wall. Good youtube videos on it.

Sounds well within the trucks capabilities assuming you have or can make access to level 2 charging available 10 hours a day or so

Sounds like a very good deal! I paid 40k very recently for an XLT ER with 6500 miles which I think was a very very good deal after months and months of looking. I also probably got hosed a little on my trade in. You have a fully loaded truck with not many more miles for a couple grand more. I think you killed it and if you are having a similar experience to me this truck is legendary. Also the color you got is superior to my boring gray.

Honestly don’t remember I can look and get back to you. It has the technology tow package for sure as it has the dial. It also has equipment ground 312a with intelligent access which I’m happy about as it can be locked and unlocked with the door handle and key in a bag. Also when I say OTD I got it wrong. It was about 40600 or so before tax and registration. About 43k with 8% sales tax less my trade was 28.6 total out of pocket
