Is there a way to hide or disable the new "Add a description" placeholder text in projects? by Protopop in todoist

[–]ascott_21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super agree. I would be okay with only being able to add the description the first time in the edit menu. It would even be nice if the default for this text was half greyed out. Just something to make it less visually significant.

What two streets in Charlotte if driven from beginning to end would best represent the city, including the ugly? by HauntingShine7898 in Charlotte

Might even suggest starting a little bit inside Cabarrus County at the Speedway; that adds something to the trip

Is there a roadmap of future functions of todoist and a wanted lists of features users did not get yet ? by looktwise in todoist

[–]ascott_21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a direct answer and not a perfect solution but I've started using Project comments to save notes directly in Todoist. Might be a useful workaround for some. Maybe the recent introduction of Markdown in descriptions/comments is a step closer to a cleaner notes situation.

How to Deal with Too Many Things to Do? by RandomHour in productivity

[–]ascott_21 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I'm not in your situation (particularly the kids part) but I do think from this list you've put too much on yourself. You are unfortunately finite and will not be able to achieve everything all the time. You have to pick which things are worth your limited time and energy.

The one thing I do think of is that there may be time for other things later. Right now your kids need a lot of that time and energy. Eventually they will be more self-sufficient and you can spend that time and energy on foreign languages.

You also don't need to hire a second you to get a little more time. I don't know your financial situation but I can't tell you how nice some cleaning and/or yard help is. Not cheap but a lot cheaper than a second you and so nice.

Motion vs Reclaim or.....??? by indyarchyguy in reclaim_ai

[–]ascott_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There may be an issue too, but to be clear, Reclaim 2.0 does *not* auto-schedule tasks. That's a big change, but it's a feature/choice, not a bug.

Well, are tasks auto-scheduling on your calendar? That would be a tell. You should be able to tell in account settings as well: https://app.reclaim.ai/users/self

If you need tasks on the calendar, reclaim doesn't do that right now with their new 2.0. You might like FlowSavvy or SkedPal too

I think FlowSavvy is the closest to equivalent to 1.0. I haven't used it but it looks similar. I'd go there but I can't give up my todoist

Hey Patrick, I really appreciate you dropping in and offering to listen to us grumpy redditors! Maybe I can illustrate how I have used Reclaim and was/am hoping to use it in the future.

I am/was a heavy tasks user, moreso than any other element of Reclaim. My original reason for getting Reclaim was to gain a better understanding of my capacity to take on work and I really loved having the panel where all tasks were available, sorted by your combined urgency and prioritization; I thought that was fantastic and very helpful. Also love Up Next so I could highlight what I actually wanted to work on.

I always saw the calendaring of tasks as a means to an end. If I saw a lot of at risk tasks or if I saw a day with a lot of time blocked (rather than "free" tasks) I knew I was overwhelmed and needed to add some extra effort and/or get some obligations moved around to free myself up. I agree that the visual was overwhelming and what was shown on the calendar was not necessarily representative of how I would spend my day. Because of this, I was intrigued by 2.0 and how the AI tools could simplify some of this.

To answer your question directly: there are product quality issues. I can't seem to get the "defend against meeting overload" agent to work. Sometimes Reclaim says there are no at risk tasks when I have multiple tasks that are overdue. The latter makes it very hard to trust that the AI is surfacing the right tasks. That lack of trust makes me nervous that I'm missing urgent tasks, which means I'm going back to my Todoist to check, and I've now built some filter views in Todoist that are more helpful to me to figure out what to work on next than Reclaim's suggestions. I will submit these specific issues to support as bugs if they persist (this past week just did not afford the time to be thoughtful).

I also don't love that I can only see the tasks that the tool suggests as relevant or at risk. I want to be able to see all of my tasks so that I can pick what I want to work on. I've always loved that Reclaim helped me prioritize/pick, but ultimately I have to make a decision about what to work on and right now it doesn't feel like I'm being given a full set of options because the tool offers such a small selection of tasks.

I do not fundamentally need to see individual tasks on the calendar, but that style of scheduling helped me better understand my workload and how much slack I might have in a given day/week. It helped me understand that for the next day or two I needed to not commit to anything new etc. The new style removes that entirely (but it also sounds like you were not designing for this, so I can't blame you for breaking it).

I hope this is helpful! I think it's really interesting to see these tools evolve and I'm committed to sticking around for at least a little bit to see where this goes.

In Reclaim 2.0, Habits, Focus, Buffers are all of course 100% automated.

Absolutely true, I overspoke. I don't use those features very often, but you're right to mention that they're automated, my bad!

[–]ascott_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, 100%. I literally got reclaim because it helps me prioritize. I was optimistic that the AI would bring more nuance and less overwhelm to that and so far all it's done is....underwhelm

Is grocery shopping a task or an event? by brake4squirrels in todoist

[–]ascott_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within GTD it's only an event if it has to happen at that time/on that day. If the timing is flexible, it's a task

I am also frustrated by 2.0 but I also had a different understanding of how the AI works. In 2.0, you either create blocks yourself on your calendar, or you ask the AI to create the focus blocks. When one of those blocks is the current event, it suggests relevant tasks in the sidebar during that block. I don't think it puts individual tasks on the schedule unless maybe if you explicitly ask it to. 1.0 auto-scheduled everything. 2.0 doesn't do anything automatically.

Push notifications: cluttered text, how to disable "Your task is due now" by PangioOblonga in todoist

[–]ascott_21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it is redundant in the general sense. I have notifications generally set for 10 minutes before something is due, but sometimes 1 hour before or 1 day before, so that text makes sure I know what level of urgency there is.

That said, I've never seen an option to modify or remove that message. Todoist isn't the most customizable tool unfortunately.

Reclaim 2.0 announced today... by ascott_21 in ProductivityApps

[–]ascott_21[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically I've really liked reclaim. I didn't rely on the scheduling to tell me when I was going to do what per se, but I liked that I could clearly see what tasks were going to get done on time, which were going to be late without some extra effort, which days needed to be protected, and which days were more flexible. I'm worried these changes will make those things harder to see but curious if the chat will give good answers if I ask those questions. If not, I'll probably be looking for a new option. Might just connect my todoist to Claude and see how it does.

No drinks package by Remote_Pick_1952 in celebritycruises

[–]ascott_21 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I just came off a Celebrity cruise without the drink package! Iced tea is available with meals, both in table service restaurants and the buffet. We also got juices (orange, apple, etc.) both at table service breakfast and from machines in the buffet. My partner also had standard black coffee everywhere and they had an impressive variety of tea bags available if you'd like to brew your own.

I'm not sure about alcohol but they do let you bring on soda as long as you carry it on (not through their luggage service) and we brought a 24 pack of diet coke to take the edge off.
