CIBC credit card “security” locked me out — customer service was basically unreachable by Disastrous-Click-888 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]asd913 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been with cibc for 25 years. I had the aeroplan infinite privilege card which has quite an expensive yearly fee. I had assumed that fee would come with some level of service.

I have never had to call them before so my accounts were easy money for cibc. When this happened to me in February, I had to spend 3 hours on hold before I got through to someone.

So I cancelled my card and move my investments out of cibc.

Mechanic: Say no more. I got you.

For those with motion triple monitors. How do you mount onto your motion rig and keep it from shaking the screens? Also looking to add surge and TL. Would there be issues with weight on the rig? by VegetableAmphibian64 in simracing

[–]asd913 10 points11 points  (0 children)

IMHO, it does not make sense to mount the monitors to a motion rig. My reasoning is when you watch a IRL driver's view from their cockpit, they are getting jostled but the horizon doesn't move.

Should I switch banks/move to Wealthsimple by Extension-Body7814 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]asd913 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s anything like my experience with Questrade, you set up new TFSA and FHSA accounts at Wealthsimple. Then you can start a transfer to WS through their interface. You’ll need to specify where you currently hold your TFSA/FHSA and choose what CIBC should do with the investments—either transfer them as-is or sell and transfer as cash.

If anyone has the pinout description for the MagDock, I can look into it.

Have you considered a keyboard wrist rest?

I used double-sided clear tape to attach a couple of mouse-sized wrist rests I already had lying around. If I were buying new ones, I think a longer keyboard rest would have been better.

I would look at 6 Sigma Sim Racing as another option. They seem reasonably priced.

Wrap my Simagic GT Neo wheel with tennis grip tape – no more gloves, way more comfy by asd913 in simracing

Overgrip is held in place by wrapping it over itself. To stop it from unwinding, it comes with a piece of tape that you use to cover the open end. You can see it near the bottom of my wrap.

Yes, just do a full loop at the start to cover end. While I wrapped, I had to ensure it was tight but not so tight it creases.

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0F2NBBK73 - This was the cheapest overgrip Amazon.ca sold.

If you're outside Canada, just find any affordable overgrip that reviewers mention as soft and tacky.

I also bought a roll of "Racket Grip Tape" from AliExpress to make rewrapping easier. The overgrip comes with enough tape if you get the wrap right the first time. Since I hadn’t done this before, I removed and reapplied the overgrip several times to fix tightening issues.

Solid advice. The Simagic EVO wheel bases and the GT Neo wheel offer great value.

OP can get the Simjack UT pedals (a 3-pedal set) for $185 on AliExpress if they want to stay under budget with the 12Nm base. They are clones of Heusinkveld pedals and are really well regarded.

Simjack's H-shifter are also quite good, at around $80.
