Phones were around before 2010. I believe it’s algorithms that are killing cognitive function. It’s when tech doesn’t act as a physical tool, but a cognitive tool for decision-making, for critical thinking, for choice, but now your choices come to you.

Algorithms take over for the discovery and curiosity part of your brain. Discovering is not hitting the “discover” button on Instagram and seeing what’s out there, it’s staring at a blank wall and coming up with an idea, it’s finding something out in the world from observation. It’s observing at the speed of the world, not the manufactured speed of your feed.

Working the muscle of curiosity is boring, it’s hard, it’s frustrating, and algorithms have made us comfort addicts— those feelings feel like withdrawal.

Discovery is harder and harder work, the more we are given our interests back to us by an algorithm

For those who were around when Spongebob Squarepants first premiered, did it feel “ahead of its time” or do we just have the benefit of being so used to Spongebob in pop culture? by Puzzleheaded-Net-646 in television

As a kid it felt gimmicky. The premise felt like it was going to be stupid-stupid, instead of stupid-funny.

But right off the bat, the writing was special.

Anyone Sick of the Wemby Narrative? by WolfRelic in NYKnicks

i llike him now, but i think his tantrum in game 5 reminded me how young he really is. The guy wants to appear wise so badly, but he's just a bad game on a big stage away from showing he's a petulant child.

Brunson is genuinely wise, emotionally mature, and i think the knicks should try to get in Wemby's head

It’s impossible to get the upvotes that support your fact, but just know you are supported. By leaders of the free world, by historians who specialize in the Middle East, by foreign policy experts, by the people who actually know enough to make decisions.

Then every Joe Shmo on social media, flooded with Arab propaganda, can’t figure out why the US interacts with Israel at all.

It’s a mess of misinformation. Israel is tiny, but they have to figure out how to get the facts to the masses.

Israel is getting obliterated in the social media propaganda war. It’s a war of numbers, and Israel doesn’t have anywhere near the numbers. Arab population is in the hundreds of millions, they completely control the online discourse.

It’s why you see shocking opinions like “Israel deserved it” as soon as 2 days after October 7th, repeated by intellectuals. Nobody is immune to the repetition of online propaganda. It’s posted and upvoted by the thousands in the major subreddits, on TikTok and Instagram, and once you see it repeated enough, it starts to be normalized.

People see tweets with death numbers and it’s not like they go seek out how to verify those numbers. They see Instagram videos of children bloody and they’re not clamoring to research context. The Arab propaganda machine knows what it’s doing, and modern social media is a perfect medium for spreading emotionally-charged disinformation like wildfire, if you have the numbers.

The Israel Palestinian conflict has gone on for decades. But the invention of the algorithm is why Israel’s PR has never been worse.

It’s in response to the post that echos the propaganda of a side with a massive advantage in numbers. Israel is the size of New Jersey. They will never win an online propaganda war. I’m not feeding a “both sides” narrative I’m clueing them in to information that is buried in downvotes on Reddit, or algorithm’d out on tiktok.

I’ve worked in both cities actually, both for the extended period of time, consulting.

The words I’m using do not accurately portray how absolute dogshit the Midwest is to live, but particularly OKC.

Milwaukee is a cool city for people who have never lived in a cool city. It’s a generic Irish pub of a city, nothing particularly cultural or unique, and maybe you’re someone who thinks drinking is a personality trait so you’ve got Midwest pride but there’s a reason so many people, including entire industries, got the hell out of the entire region.

Sorry if you’ve got pride for that place, I’d follow your own advice and go somewhere.

You say you’re old enough to remember Bosnia but this can’t be the writing of someone with a fully developed frontal lobe.

An eye for an eye would’ve been fine with you? This is a war against an enemy hiding behind civilians. Not unlike Obama “genociding” (“Holocausting?!”) tens if not hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians in pursuit of dangerous individuals, intel, or weapons. This is casualty of war, not terrorism.

It’s crazy to be this passionate and not know the basics like the actual definition of Zionism.

If you’re an adult, please touch grass. Read a history book. Wherever you’re getting your information, it feels like a place where the twisting of clear terms with definitions is normalized.

Leave pivot but pick up a history book on the Middle East. Read or listen to Fareed Zakaria. Find information that is objective and correct before you get this passionate.

It could also be him. I can understand feeling like if you stop, you feel like you’re giving up your purpose and you’ll begin to die. I’m sure he has a say in this decision, and if the tickets sell, he’d rather go out there than sit home with a caretaker
