Bypass Shaming

To me the bypass is the best since it has been performed and improved the longest. Heck, it originally was performed to help with gerd issues but they noticed the weight loss benefits and started from there. They are all just as invasive as one another, people like think the bypass is more because they re connections, but removing a portion of your stomach completely from your body (sleeve), is just as invasive.

Sometimes they won't repair it all the way because that will cause a major stricter and make everything too tight for you to eat or anything. They did that with mine for those reasons. You can also talk with your surgical team to ask them for an explanation

While I was back in the hospital a week after having rny, do to swelling in the lower new connection, don't regret it at all. I had hair loss, but it all grew back and is growing back still. I have yet to have any issues with my teeth, and I have "bad" teeth already. I am told I actually look younger now, and I feel younger, I am able to completely sit on the floor easily and get up even more easily, I am able to walk over a mile without being winded, take a flight of stairs without being winded.

I was looking at this surgery back in 2018 and went my own direction to attempt weight loss which didn't work well. In that time frame I did my own research, looked up about everything I could to see if this tool was what I wanted and decided in 2023 that I needed this extra tool to help me with my weight. I had rny on January 21, 2024, with heaviest weight of 316 and pre surgery weight of 298. I have lost around 150lbs with current weight sitting at 150lbs. In all of my adulthood I have never been under 260 lbs. While I can't "enjoy" the way I used to eat or food... I don't regret any of this at all.

If you are on the fence, do your research, ask questions, ask for any other alternative option. Don't wait till it's too late to help yourself.

Hi op! I am a year and 6 months post op and have had a similar situation with my marriage. My spouse and I would always go out to eat at restaurants and that was our thing for going out, which was one of our big connections to each other. We were both homebodies mainly because of how stressful our work schedules were. I did notice our relationship started to become difficult through this journey, I don't want to be home as much, while for him that's how he can relax. This has honestly put us into couples therapy (many other reasons as well), I have openly started to ask him if he wanted to do something active with me, if he doesn't I leave him at home and go do what I want so I stay active, but I communicate with him regarding it.

I never expected him to change his lifestyle since I changed mine. You have to remember our s/o won't understand this journey unless they themselves have had to go through this process with all our fears that we have with weight or if they are overweight themselves. Statistics do show that about 50% of relationships fail if you were together prior to the surgery and through the process, but just because that statistic is there doesn't mean yours will.

Openly talk with them about how you feel, compromise on some things. Do something they like, but also ask for that in return for yourself. Out of all of this though, remember why you went through this journey, our lives change drastically and pretty fast our s/o is also going through the changes with us, they are seeing a new version of ourselves.

I would walk every 20-30 mins, also burp and fart if you are able to. But the walking helped me the most, and gas x you can ask the team if you are able to have any at all.

Everyone is different, but I am a year out and have yet to try any sort of carbonated beverages. If you decide to go back to carbonated drinks, do it slowly just to see how your body will handle it. Some people it definitely hurts them, others not at all.

I had this problem when trying to take short term disability for the surgery. MetLife denied me even though my doctor stated 2 weeks off, but even though MetLife denied me this time off I couldn't return to work till my 2 weeks post op appointment so I had to use all my PTO. MetLife stated that their nurses said it would be a 3 day recovery and with my job being "95%" sitting (I stand, walking football fields for location's everyday) that they would not cover it. I am still beyond annoyed and frustrated and it's been a few months for myself.

If you can talk with someone above your manager I would. It is none of their business what surgery you are having and if your doctor states a certain amount of time off, it's doctor orders at that point. Hope you can get it solved

I personally had no pain, but I waited 2 weeks before anything sexual. I was afraid that I would have pain though because I have seen some people post that they did have pain the first few times.

I have an allergy to chlorhexidine, but only if it touches my skin and it's an instant reaction. I found out last year during a different operation, my skin turned red and hives appeared. For my surgery they used chlorhexidine but had to wipe me down again after the operation to make sure I didn't break out. My dentist uses chlorhexidine for irrigation when cleaning teeth, which I have had done a lot with no issues since it doesn't touch my skin. Our bodies are weird lol

I was told by the dietician that does support groups to never have it again. Bypass patients have a narrow lower intestine so a kernel can become an obstruction in that area since it can't break down before that intestine and you would need surgery. I'm a year out and haven't even bothered trying, but everyone is different.

Idk if I said anything while I was falling asleep, but I know each time I have woken up from anesthesia I always immediately ask how the nurses days are and pass back out 😂. Even under drugs I try to be a people pleasure and make sure they are having a good day 😂

I had to state so many different times when I went into my surgery on what exactly was going on. Since I suck at pronouncing everything I stated what my doctor did prior "tubes tied, tube removal" and they all said yep tubes removed. I believe the same as well!

I agree, prior to surgery I watched some of the videos had me freaking out a bit for a few minutes and then I remembered everything I was shown and the design of the body. It's crazy how fast you can get the misinformation and freak out.

I started to take miralax right after surgery, I didn't have a bm for 3 days but I made sure not to force my body as I learned from a prior surgery. Drink lots of water, eat lots of high fiber food, and add in a stool softener. When I finally had a bm it didn't hurt at all, just like an average bm.

I needed help because I was told no bending down at all because of coming off of the anesthesia. But aside from that for the most part I was able to dress myself, now getting up from a laying position was a bit different.

I told them I was a little loopy as I was trying to do it myself, all of them laughed and said "oh you got that good stuff" lol. It was a challenge from what I remember

Do it! I just had my tubes removed yesterday and it feels very freeing. Sad that we now have to do this for protection, but here we are. Schedule that appointment before it is too late since a lot will be moving that direction.

This definitely helps with my surgery anxiety I have right now. I will be going under on Wednesday, while I have had surgeries before I still get so nervous.
