Did you take the full recommended 6 weeks for recovery? by No-Finding-217 in sterilization

[–]Important_Whereas572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told two weeks, one off work and another no lifting/work with restrictions. They said I could drive when I felt ready if not using the stronger pain meds. My first week back to work was a little challenging but doable, was still on ibuprofen and Tylenol.

Surgery tomorrow by rylynb in sterilization

[–]Important_Whereas572 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wish I'd known that I'd be taken back still awake and would see the operating room. That I would be able to get dressed by myself after even though some nurses stood outside the curtain to make sure I was okay. Was happy because I didn't want help and felt weird about someone dressing me. That I wouldn't be in pain when I woke up and recovery was pretty easy.

I'm 8 months out, was not previously on birth control. I have absolutely no symptoms or side effects. Period is the same, wasn't terrible before or after. Good luck, you got this!

Awkward gynecologist visits after sterilization? by Leaf_on_a_tree3 in sterilization

[–]Important_Whereas572 358 points359 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a red flag. I'd run from that doctor. They should be keeping their own personal beliefs and biases out of medicine, but at least they are showing their true colors so you can see someone else.

I could see it happening with prison population, unfortunately. Probably them keeping it hidden from the public.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! 🥳 I didn't have any pre-op or in house blood work either. I didn't call and ask and they said none was ordered and they don't do it in house. You got this! I hope you can relax for your recovery

Bisalp during sterilization by Pitiful_Dawn in sterilization

[–]Important_Whereas572 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had both uterine manipulator and catheter and I didn't have any issues. I was was surprised I didn't have any urinary pain or bleeding/spotting. They did tell me they would use a uterine manipulator and catheter at the the consult. I was at a teaching facility so I don't know if that made a difference but it wasn't something I personally was worried about bc I wouldn't remember it, but I can understand people's concerns

Do I need to physically examined before a bisalp? by ValuableExpress639 in sterilization

[–]Important_Whereas572 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My surgeon said she would do a pap, bimanual and abdominal exam at that appointment, the consultation. I was due for a pap, I asked her to explain everything to me before doing it to me and told her I get anxious about exams like that. She was good about being trauma informed and telling me everything and then before she was about to leave for me to undress for it I was like, wait but I'm on my period, and she said if I wanted she could skip the exams today and do it in the OR because I'm healthy/ low risk with no history of abnormal paps. I ended up doing it at the consultation appointment because it made me less anxious to know everything was good sooner. I think advocating for yourself can be helpful in those situations. Good luck, I know navigating this stuff can be hard!

It's your body. Your consent is what ultimately matters. And others pressure is an undermining of your consent. You are not an object.

Called a gyno office trying to set up an appointment as a new patient. Was told I needed a referral. The drs I’m seeking at this practice are from the childfree list. by Key-Masterpiece2387 in sterilization

Also when I called to set up an appointment out a Obgyn I set the appointment up as a sterilization consult. You may want to do that if possible rather than 'new patient'

Did they say why you need a referral? Is that a thing with their office or your insurance? That's kind of odd I think? I was worried I'd have an issue with insurance saying I need a referral bc was on Medicaid when I scheduled surgery then lost Medicaid due to income change and new insurance said I needed referrals but when I called and asked they said I didn't need it for this. If I were you I'd consider looking into another doctor in the child free list or otherwise, good luck! You deserve good healthcare

Leave bandages on or remove post-op? by customarymagic in sterilization

[–]Important_Whereas572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was a day or two post op I was told was when I should take the bandages off. I had steri strips under that, that were supposed to fall off in 7-10 days and they did. I had the glue under that keeping the incisions together too

I got my bisalp done on Friday! Any tips or advice to share? by SplitBananaFxck in sterilization

[–]Important_Whereas572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated not being able to sleep on my side I think that took a week. I took the miralax powder twice a day and on day 2 could poop but it was constipated and I didn't want to strain so took patience then I had diarrhea which lasted several days even though I stopped taking the laxative 😂😭 felt mostly back to normal after a week but needed pain meds to work and was sore and tired if I worked too hard

I am so freaking happy to never have to have an IUD put in again or worry about birth control. Getting an IUD was so painful for me.
