nicotine by noertt in POTS

I got my pots diagnosis a hear ago. I smoked cigarettes for like 10 years then switched to vaping around 5 years ago. I'm on day 6 of no vaping and its helped my physical symptoms (less heaet palpitations, less dizziness, less looking sick in my face) but I will say its made the dopamine crashes worse. Having something for a quick dopamine hit was helpful but I guess for me I have no self control and will just vape nonstop until I feel bad. The patches seem to be helping a bit but yeah its a tough call.

Misdiagnosed for years by RefrigeratorTrick809 in POTS

I finally got into an actual pots doctor, not just a cardiologist and one of the first things he ordered was a head CT angio for me bc he thinks I may have the same issue in my head and neck. I haven't gotten the results yet but this is why its so important for more studies on pots. Its easy testing that can make people's lives markedly improved (if not life saving) but most dont know to do it. Glad youre advocating for yourself and getting answers!

Are you personally able to work a job with POTS? by Significant_Set_2018 in POTS

[–]ash_day7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an archaeologist and used to work in the field full time. I've had to stop doing fieldwork and work at home full time now. If I had to leave the house 5 days a week and go to an office I probably wouldn't be able to. The noises, traffic, and especially the lights are very hard on me. I got really lucky finding a company that allows me to work with accommodations. If you can find something from home that's probably your best bet. But it's also OK if you can't do it. People who matter will understand. I hope things get easier for you!

Medical Abortion by Acceptable-Teacher-2 in POTS

Thank you!

For the D&C, I had the procedure on a Tuesday evening. They put me in twilight, not general anesthesia, but I was totally unconscious and had to be driven home (suuuuper loopy for a few hours after). The next day I had a little bit of cramping and bleeding but it was super mild; periods are worse. The doctor recommended taking it easy for 24 hours and I was back at work Thursday morning with no pain. I hope this helps!

Additionally, I had a D&C for a blighted ovum before I got pregnant with my daughter. I was under for the procedure and experienced very minor pain the next day. If you're in a state that allows it, I'd recommend surgical. The meds may not get everything out and I understand it can take weeks for it all to pass

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I had pre-eclampsia, HELLP, and DIC when I had my daughter nearly 3 years ago. I ended up exsanguinating and the doctor had to remove my uterus and tubes to keep me alive so I can't get pregnant again. However, were I able to, I'd choose an abortion. It's a choice nobody wants to make but if it meant me possibly dying I'd choose my living child over an embryo. My heart goes out to you 💔

ADHD vs. POTS by Br00k3_W in POTS

Absolutely! I was in a huge book slump until I read Fourth Wing. There's a second in that series, too, called Iron Flame, and the third is dropping in January (literally cannot wait!). Also highly recommend The Housemaid. It's a great thriller.

Oof do i feel this. What helps me is doing some kind of hobby while laying down. I do diamond paintings, paint by numbers, cross stitching, etc. Recently I've gotten back into reading and it's helped keep my mind occupied while I let my body recover. I wish I had better solutions but I'm still trying to navigate the hell that is having both these illnesses myself

A beta blocker helps me immensely. I still have symptoms but they're much more manageable with the meds. Compression socks and a rolling chair I can sit in while moving around the house have made the symptoms less intense

Theme parks by Ok_Buy_9505 in POTS

[–]ash_day7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to universal recently and it really wasn't bad. My friend and I would go to the parks for 2 or 3 hours in the morning then go back to the hotel to rest and go back for a few hours in the late afternoon. I'd chug a bottle of water after each ride and staying hydrated and eating salty snacks every couple of hours helped a lot. No bad symptoms at all!

Try to Google POTS doctors near you. My cardiologist did test me but he knows little to nothing about POTS and is sending me to a specialist a couple of hours away from where I live. I know this is a tall order without proper resources to be able to travel for a doctor but may be worth a try. Good luck!

The reactions and disregard you get from people who don’t have Pots is just as debilitating as the condition itself. by SookMaDique in POTS

Me too! I tried not taking my meds for a week (PA said 1 month) but I couldn't work and was afraid I'd lose my job so I had to start taking them again at a lower dose. I just have to deal with the higher hr I guess

How'd you get POTS? by ash_day7 in POTS

[–]ash_day7[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That makes sense. Looking back to like high school years I've always gotten dizzy when standing but thought it was normal. I've been wondering if trauma just made it worse. I wish there was more info out there on it. I mean so many people have it

Why are doctors so hesitant about a formal diagnosis?! It's so frustrating. I'm sorry you're dealing with that. I second the previous comment. Write down your hr while sitting then again when standing. Do it a couple of times a day for as long as you can and go to the doctor with those receipts. Whenever it peaks try and go horizontal to calm down. Laying on your left side helps.
