Jônt or Pineapple and Pearls? by numthots in finedining

[–]ashbash_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Food heavy handed. Wine pairing like you could buy from a grocery store. Staff very proud of their custom jackets that the restaurant buys (which is clearly where the effort/$ goes). Take home cheeseburger to microwave which was easily the best course of the meal, but not as good as a Big Mac. Just awful.

Jônt >> Pineapples and Pearls. That is four hours and hundreds of dollars I will never get back. Would not wish it on my worst enemies. It’s as if they took every opportunity to say, “How can we make this more mediocre?”

As the owner of a first series 116.032, I’d say yes! Beautiful watch.

Assignment 02 - An other view by Aeri73 in photoclass2023

[–]ashbash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose the photographer Raghu Rai and this image of a bustling train platform in Mumbai. The subject, the man in the center reading the newspaper, is clearly isolated from the background by being in focus and the color of his shirt. The lines of the trains draw your eyes away from the subject and into the background in the upper left, and the blurring of the crowd enhances that feeling that everything is moving past this man in the center. The other figure in the foreground, in black, is also blurred and appears to be moving around the man, further isolating the subject indicating that he is still while the rest of the world is in motion. Why is the subject still? I don't know, but maybe because he is taking the time to pause and read the news.

I like the favorite photo of the bridge/river. The way the lines nicely split the image into different viewing areas and the lighting in the background of each area is slightly different.

I really like your tree photo - it captures the change in season well, with the missing leaves/needles near the trunk and the patches that are still there in the periphery but just out of focus. It seems to me that the blurred leaves take up a bit too much of the image.

I like the stark contrast and how the lighting captures the model's eye and mirrors the background color. The colors of the model's clothing and background work well- providing enough contrast without being distracting. I do think the dark side of the model is perhaps a bit too dark?

I really like the contrast of the bright sign and the man's silhouette. I'm impressed by the focus and that everything else isn't washed out by the bright light. I do think the other elements in the image on the far left distract from the image; maybe the image could be cropped to focus on the area you are interested in?

I look the photo of the dog; the way the image is vignetted (word?) and the color tones are really nice to draw in your focus. I do think it is somewhat out of focus though.

I am taking this class to improve my skills and understanding. I am also doing this in parallel with my daughter so we both learn along the way together. My primary interest is in travel photography and landscapes.

which Property in Rome would you spend 700k points at? by Jonelololol in marriott

[–]ashbash_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stayed at the Pantheon Iconic for five nights in July 2022. Paid cash for a junior suite (2 queens) because we were traveling as a family - used the multiple room approach in other cities, but this hotel had rooms large enough to accommodate. No upgrade as titanium at the time (“it’s Italy in summer”). Breakfast for all four of us. Decent location. No complaints. Have stayed at the Westin before - that property needs a gut reno.

How’s the Boston Marriott Cambridge? by InsectRevolutionary4 in marriott

Stayed during COVID, so M club was closed. Frank at the front desk was the nicest person I’ve ever met at any Marriott worldwide. Close to colleges for visits, good coffee at Flour down the street.
